land on top health snack lists. boulder brands and annis are other players offering organic, gluten free foods that they count as winners. >> the natural organic space is on fire. there's never been a better time to be in business in natural organic from a demand perspective. >> reporter: consumers shifted from three meal as day to smaller, more frequent meals. that's fueling sales of snack foods. the key millenial demographic is interested in fresh, healthy farm-to-table options. that's sent more trips to local chains like this one rather than grocers. straight from the farm food options are paramount. consumers are willing to pay a premium, but only to a point. according to a pwc report, 67% of consumers think competitive prices are a factor when it comes to where to shop.

an opportunity for more bad weather. a chance for more damaging wind, also a flash flood potential does exist and additional heavy rain in southern maryland and the main risk area is up until 9:00. we'll be here to keep you posted on that. the picture from national harbor, a picture of the woodrow wilson bridge. the first line of storms just moved out. the cold front causing all this is well back to the west. until that cold front clears the i-95 corridor, we can't give the all clear. it's on southern maryland and the eastern shore right now. it's lifting to the northeast. a severe storm warning on the bay bridge of the eastern shore. in southern maryland, the storms are packing a punch. they are not severe, but the rain is coming down in buckets across calvert and much of st. mary's county. you can stee lightning taking place here. this is a serious thunderstorm.

you need to be inside, for sure, for 30 to 45 minutes past williams wharf and mechanicsville. that's where the worst of the weather is now. there's signs of more showers that could become thunderstorms west near i-81. that's a little closer to the cold front and they may intensify as they come back into the warmer, more humid air here in the mountains. that's the next line we need to watch very, very carefully. the latest high resolution trend says that's not quite as strong as the first line of storms. it is 77 rain cool degrees in washington right now. generally in the 70s and 80s everywhere. places that have been cool are warming back up because the sunshine is out. that will happen here in washington as well. the return of sunshine jumps into the upper 70s to low 80s. here is the future weather forecast. by 5:30, most of the bad weather along the western shore and

that's what happened to a woman in colorado. >> she's seen her share of animals come to her home. the beehive is too much for her. she called a beekeeper to take down the hive. as mark reports, he wore a camera for a unique perspective. >> i looked into how to destroy them. she had seen it all from the deck of her home. >> believe it or not, i have had bats, coyotes and rabbits. i had a dog that went face-to-face with a coyote once. i have a beehive. >> not just any hive, a hive with multiple layers, some 10,000 occupants. it's just outside her bedroom window. >> they have been good neighbors. i have seen them grow and it seems to get bigger and bigger. >> it's not that she isn't a fan of wildlife, just the less intrusive variety. she draws the line at worms --

junkie. i'm pumping right now. >> reporter: once up at the hive, they vacuumed the bees into a hive box below. there's a science to it. >> one thing is when you do it, you do not want to breathe on the hive. you get so excited and hold your breath and all of a sudden, you go, ahh. they hate that carbon monoxide and they go straight for you. >> surrounded by the bees, they cut away the comb. the process takes 25 minutes. >> if you can see the comb, all the colors, that's all the local pollen from all the flowers and the trees. >> reporter: all of which will be transferred to new hives. >> i think he forgets he's on the ladder. >> she's given them the chance to go to a new hive where they willner be bothered again. >> important for a species under so much pressure. >> better them than us.

first at 4:30, a severe thunderstorm in effect. welcome back on a wild weather day. i'm jim handly. >> i'm barbara harrison. we are tracking the threat of downpours, high winds and the threat of hail. we are looking at chopper live over slick streets. looks like a truck may have jackknif jackknifed. a lot of problems in some of the areas. >> new hampshire avenue right here remains closed. we showed you this earlier from wendy rieger. we want to go to the storm center and meteorologist chuck bell. what are you seeing? >> the first round of bad weather is leaving. all eyes are going to be focused

to the blue ridge for another line of showers to develop. the view from the camera over d.c., a lot of dark skies across parts of southern maryland. that's where the biggest and baddest thunderstorms are. calvert county, the rain cells are headed to the northeast and will be over the bay in the next little bit. it's raining hard from calvert beach to leonardtown and mechanicsville, route 5 and route 2 in southern maryland. expect delays when traveling there. here is the next line of showers developing near the blue ridge. as they come back to the warmer, more humid air, they may start to intensify. there's an upward trend in the sensety, so they have to be watched. the watch goes until 9:00 and a flash flood watch until 10:00 for the metro, northern maryland and eastern shores. we'll keep a very, very close eye on this. the rest of the evening, a possibility of strong to severe

we are not the only ones dealing with threatening wet weather. strong storms brought heavy rain and wind to the arizona region for a second straight day today. several homes and roads were flooded. to the north, parts of new haven, connecticut hammered by a strong storm system. cars made it through the high

water, some did not. a parking garage downtown was no match, either. this damage was from the same storm causing problems in our area. we are monitoring and tra tracking weather in our area. looking outside, you can see it in part. chuck bell is in the storm center with the latest on the path. chuck? >> thanks, jim. the immediate threat is southern maryland in st. mary's county as a cluster of thunderstorms is coming over the northern potomac in the next 30 minutes or so. here is how it looks from reston toward dulles international airport. i'm looking to the west because if we are going to get more thunderstorms in the metro area, they are coming from that direction. meanwhile, friends and neighbors are under the gun for a strong thunderstorm to come through. it does not have a warning on it just yet, but a lot of lightning and a huge slug of heavy rain is

about to go over the southern half. from leonardtown southbound to st. george island, be on the lookout over the next 30 to 40 minutes as the storm goes across the county. looking to the west, didn't see anything bubbling up. showers east of i-81 and the northern most part of fauquier county. the warmer, more humid air east of the mountains. we are watching that carefully. for now, most of the severe weather is working through southern maryland and out on to the eastern shore. we are keeping very, very close eye on this for you. current temperatures warming back into the 70s and 80s. skies will clear out a bit overnight tonight. the rain should be gone no later than 2:00 or 3:00. overnight, we stay in the 60s in metro and southern maryland. already a chance for 50s on the map tomorrow morning across parts of the shenandoah valley. for a look ahead, clouds in the

he got into a fight over the weekend. the man peppered the athlete with questions about the trial, then got aggressive. they argued, but it never turned physical. the story of the trial for the murder of his girlfriend will resume august 7th with closing arguments. a father is in jail for leaving his 3-month-old baby girl in a hot parked car south of atlantic, georgia. he left the girl while he was in court for a hearing on drug charges. the little girl is okay. she was rescued by good samaritans. the dad will be back in court soon and facing a child cruelty charge. she didn't want to wake her up. that's why a florida mom left her toddler alone in a locked car. the mom left the air conditioner running. as we report, that doesn't matter to police. >> reporter: her car has a baby on board sign in the back and a baby seat in the backseat. the little girl was strapped in
