maryland. gunshots on wood glenn drive in hughesville in charles county. they found a man dead in a bedroom and a woman next to him. a shotgun was lying nearby. we're told both are in their 30s and identities have not been released. shop owners are speaking out concerned about their line of work and it may be a risk to their lives. about two dozen business owners gathered at the 4th district police station in d.c. talking about the murder of the market owner james oh. he was killed in an attack on july 4th. two people seen in thener(t&háh% surveillance video were seen beating him. police in have no new leads. >> without someone who witnessed the suspect, knows their face who can say i recognize those guys, we have to rely on other things. >> news4 mark segraves will have

we've only been below 60 in july four times in the last 74 years. lows tonight 50s outside the beltway but low 60s in town. how long? that part in a few minutes. a man is in custody after police say he wounded an officer with the national security agency and drove the wrong way on the bw parkway. dar nel hawkins junior. police stopped him this morning. they say he pulled into a staging area then sped off. hurting an officer and almost hitting a barricade. stereotype troopers stopped him after he allegedly drove the wrong way on the parkway. running to catch your train is not a valid excuse to jaywalk near that busy north virginia metro station. and doing it is costing people money this week. police are cracking down on pedestrians who cross when they

shouldn't be t vienna station on the orange line. officers gave out 76 citations and warnings just on monday. another 39 yesterday. they say this is an effort to make things safe. >> we see people jaywalking and the cars are traveling but they are looking at the green light. and they are thinking that people should not be on the highway. >> well i think a warning is in order. a ticket may be a little excessive. maybe some signs or something. >> police tell us they launched this jaywalking crackdown after nearly two dozen accidents that involved pedestrians and bikers at that station just in the past year. they're going to be out all week. violators could wind up with $15 tickets. there is another move on capitol hill to undo d.c.'s tough gun control laws. representatives passed an amendment today to overturn most d.c.'s restrictions on guns. currently residents have to

register handguns every three years and also take a safety course and be fingerprinted. the amendment faces a much tougher road in the senate. starting at midnight the possession of small amounts of pot will be decriminalized here in d.c. meaning no arrests for an ounce or less. but it doesn't mean you are not in trouble if you are caught with it. news4 mark segraves explains the other changes taking effect with this new law. >> the main thing police want you to know before anyone lights up, marijuana will still be illegal. >> you can be arrested if you smoke marijuana in public, consume marijuana, have more than an ounce or marijuana or sell marijuana. >> if you are caught with an ounce or less you won't be arrested. but you will get one of these new tickets. police know there is bound to be confusion with the new law both for public and police. so for the public they've printed up small cards with all the dos and don'ts. for police the chief issued this

special order. the big changes in the law, one ounce or less will result in a $25 fine. marijuana paraphernalia including bongs, pipes and cigarette paper will no longer be criminal. and the odor of marijuana will no longer be a reasonable cause for police to search you. one part of the new law that has happen to people under 18 years old caught with small amounts of pot? >> the so i'm applies for minors. however they could also be referred to help. >> how long itll stay in effect may be up to congress. where some republicans are trying to overturn the new law. >> as you well know we've had the assistance of congress as we often do on this issue. >> in the district news4. >> it's important to note here that federal police like the park police can still arrest you for possession of any amount of park at a park like rock creek

d.c.'s new driver's licenses are beginning to cause trouble in other areas of the country. from airports to liquor stores. even a tsa screener didn't recognize it as a valid id. news4 explains the problems and has one story about being unable to buy alcohol in his"t#$ home state. >> reporter: they are pretty snazzy. d.c.'s new driver's licenses. they are just a couple months old. but not everybody is a fan. >> you always hear about stories of people not accepting d.c. ids for thing but you never believe it. >> reporter: in may of this year the department of motor vehicles started issues what they call real id driver's licenses.

why? a new feature that meets federal guidelines to name one. but the ids are causing problems at liquor story stores and airports in other parts of the country. >> they need to think about what the ramifications are going to be if they implement something new. >> reporter: a resident tweeted after a tsa officials demanded he show a passport because his license is not recognized a a federal id. it turns out folks with a old d.c. license may not be any better shape. in native new hampshire and when he got to the counter the d.c. license was denied. >> the cashier flagged us down and called the manager over and we were told they wouldn't accept the id due to state law. >> dmv officials told me they notified statewide beforehand. the main concern now is letting d.c. residents know they are

licenses are valid. d.c. ids a reminder that new doesn't always mean better. >> both the tsa and that store up in new hampshire, that liquor store now say the new licenses they know are valid and should be recognized as legitimate forms of identification. four children found in a hot car with temperatures soaring above 90 degrees. right now the mother is charged with leaving them alone while she went shopping for groceries. she left her children ages 2 to 12 alone on july 7th for about half an hour. the frederick news post reports another shopper called police when she saw the kids in the car alone. they were not injured. after months of uncertainty people forced from their homes by the landslide in maryland will know what's next. prince george's county will reveal the options for the community at a meeting tonight.

in may, that landslide left six homes uninhabitable, 26 others inpacted and others in limbo. they also don't know if the road leading to their homes will be fixed. >> they have been waiting for closu closure. and i think it's unfair to spend anymore time. and we need to come up with answers. tonight we'll talk about an option we have and also have a final discussion with the state about whether they could provide funding. >> county officials say it is going to cost at least $22 million to fix this. the county has 11 million and looking for additional fund. crews are working to fix a wear main that's created a sink hole. this is along stanton road just past the intersection -- in southeast washington. a water main broke earlier

it is taking a terrible toll on civilians. talking about the conflict between israel and palestinian militants. four boys killed in an israel strike today. there were two explosions right next to to the hotel where many foreign journalists are staying to cover this conflict. nbc news was at the hospital when the mother learned her child was one of those killed. she's screaming and asking why the world is letting this happen. the boys age's range from 9 to 11 years of age.

>> reporter: for four years as a prosecutor here in fairfax county jonathan phillips worked to punish those facing child porn charges. >> law enforcement has been empowered with the laws such as the child pornography laws to prosecute any person regardless of age of distribution of images or videos of under age individuals. >> reporter: but when it comes to applying the law to minors involved in sexting one another he suggests they rethink the code. >> it's become an epidemic and kids now are caught at school cell phones and caught off school grounds doing things. >> monk among the most recent trey simms he first came to us with his story. accused of sending nude photos of himself to his 15-year-old girlfriend. he's now facing charges. prosecutors plan to take explicit pictures to prove their

case. >> i know it's shocking that individual can be put up to these tests. technically the letter of the law it was proper procedure. >> and when it comes to their sexting cases they are simply enforcing the law as written. >> reporter: but phillip says given virginia law we could be seeing a lot more of these. they helped to change the law and lessen the impact to minors but that never made it. we've been asking if you think teen sexting should be a phone or misdemeanor or no crime at all. it's our flash survey of the day. we posted the question on social media. and here are the results so far. 8% say yes. 20% say a misdemeanor. 72% say no, it shouldn't be a crime at all.

tonight d.c. police are looking for three suspects in an arm robbery and willing to pay for your help in tracking them down. surveillance captured these people running into a convenience store. it happened around this time of day sunday afternoon. one was seen keeping watch while the other two head for the clerk and cash regger. one man showed a gun. there is a reward. if you recognize any of these three call d.c. police. >> a recall alert. this time because the air bags can rupture in certain cars. here to explain is s"nyñnews4's consumer reporter. >> we're talking more recalls this time. bmw expanding a recall of irbags in its popular three series cars. the model years 2000 through 2006 and includes nearly 600,000 vehicles in the u.s.

we still don't know who donated a diamond ring to good will. but we do know the store sold it for more than $11,000. the buyer just like the donor is anonymous. back in early june workers at the annen dale branch were amazing when they found the 3 k diamond in a zip lock bag along with some other jewelry. our wednesday's child is a lovely 15-year-old who went into the foster system when her mother passed away. >> but michelle dreams of finding a new family and she has a passion for music.

developing now the fda says hundreds of vials of the

potentially deadly germ were found at the nih campus. >> more than 300 vials were found right next to those forgotten smallpox samples found earlier this month. 12 boxes with a total of 327 vials label with names like ding gee fever and others. they are now being tested. the investigators say the fact they were not discovered until now is unacceptable. as for the smallpox samples have already been tested and they were in fact alive and viable. it was a bold crime and the surveillance camera was rolling. two men steal from work trucks as a maryland company. they take their time grabbing expensive equipment and set it all on fire. prince george's county bureau
