shot down thursday on a flight from amsterdam to kuala lumpur. >> people are holding vigils to remember the lives lost. katie reports from the netherlands where the country there is in mourning. >> reporter: in the netherlands church bells tolled for the victim, 193 from this country alone. >> we pray especially for the people who died in the recent tragic airplane accident. >> reporter: she lost her sister, brother-in-law and 17-year-old nephew. >> it's horrible to -- must die on these circumstances. >> reporter: john allen a lawyer, was traveling with his wife sandra and their three children. robert ailey was flying home to his wife and two young sons. families ripped apart. >> parents, mother, brother. >> kevin lost three members of his family.

the memorial outside the >> reporter: back in amsterdam the memorial outside the malaysia airlines terminal continues to grow as family members wait for answers. >> nbc reporting. just in the last hour pro-russian rebels say they will hand over the plane's black boxes to the international aviation authority. video showing rebels recovering what's believed to be the flight's data recorder. meanwhile rebels have taken away all the recovered bodies of all the victims by train. those bodies are being taken to the city of donestk where they, too, will be handed over to the international community. there have been reports rebels are planning to take away parts of the plane wreckage as well. the u.s. state department says they're deeply concerned about the way the separatists are restricting access to the site. coming up on "meet the press," david gregory will talk with secretary of state john kerry about how this investigation moves forward inside what is an active war zone. and we're continuing to watch the latest developments on the conflict in israel. attempts at a humanitarian

cease-fire appear to have failed this morning. israel's ground invasion of gaza continues. israel says it agreed to the cease-fire but hamas continues to fire. israel says that they have set up a field hospital in gaza to treat wounded palestinian civilians. so far more than 340 palestinians have been killed. two israelis died. a pro-palestinian demonstration is planned today in the district. the palestinian right to return coalition will gather at the state department this afternoon and plans to march to the white house. it is one of many demonstrations going on nationwide to protest u.s. support of israel. the group says hundreds of palestinians are dead and people in the u.s. are hearing one side of the story. metro will begin running the silver line trains on the rails. in fact they're already there. this week-long simulation is in rep operation for saturday's opening. news 4 derrick ward near the

wiehle reston east line this morning. >> reporter: we have, take a look one there in the station as we speak. but if you look closely, it's marked as an orange line train and that's what they're doing so that people won't be confused. these test trains will be running between the wiehle reston east station and largo town center every six minutes during rush hour, 12 to 20 minutes on the off peak hours. you will be able to ride them betweens east falls church and largo town center the simulation trains will look like orange line rains. but you will see some differences. more about where the trains are than what they say. so headed towards largo town center may see a train with an only line designation which may be new. the when the system opens that will turn to silver line. riders will see increases in service, ability 37 to 40% of riders will see shorter wait times for trains but another 6% will see their wait times increase just as the crazy calculus of trains scheduled and room and things like that.

that wait time increase will only be two to three minutes according to metro. people get used to it and it will be open soon. news 4, back to you. on the silver line doesn't go all the way to dulles but another parking option for folks. >> anyone who wants to use the silver line should know the only parking lot is really where derrick was at the wiehle reston east station. tysons corner there will not be parking lots like your typical metro lot. at the wiehle garage $4.85 a day to park there. park at dulles the economy lots are 10 bucks a day and garages closer to the terminal can be as much as $17 a day. when you get out into that area, reston, dulles, some people might be thinking about parking at the wiehle reston east station and catching a new bus which will run from that station to the airport. >> what about that bus? how much does that cost and had how long is it going to take to get from point a to point b. >> cost about five bucks.

first time in two years the ship is sitting upright. this is the first video we have seen from inside the ship. the cruise liner ran aground off the coast of italy in 2012. 32 people were killed. it is expected to be towed back to land and scrapped tuesday. the rate of hiv is dropping here in the u.s. new research shows hiv fell more than 30% between 2002 and 2011. the only group that didn't see a drop in infection rates was gay and bisexual men. more than 1.1 million people in the u.s. are infected with hiv. of that 16% don't know because they haven't been tested. historically black schunchs will be making the ta of unity. pastors will preach about fighting hiv in the black community. black americans account for 44% of all new hiv infections. church goers are being asking to s use the hash tag day of unity on social media to get the message out. sounding the alarm in washington state. a closer look at the struggles

boulder damages train tracks on one of the busiest commuter rail systems in the country. nobody got hurt but this giant rock fell on to the tracks suspending commuter service north of new york city yesterday. one should be fixed by this morning but repairs on the other could take longer. amtrak service also affected by this. more than a dozen inmates have been injured not because of any prison riot. yesterday in east texas, paramedics had to rush 19 inmates to the hospital when the jail's roof collapsed. what fell was mostly sheetrock but it was enough to trap some inmates in their cells and cause a lot of cuts and bruises. investigators think heavy rain may be to blame. a massive wildfire in north central washington state is growing rapidly. here's some of the video right here. it's burning in new directions. the carlson complex fire has burned whole towns to the ground and it's the wind that's literally fueling this fire. nbc's alex roser reports.

>> it would spread across the field within seconds. >> reporter: it's a firestorm that's burned more than 200,000 acres. now 5,000 men and women find themselves on the front lines. five miles outside, this crew from arizona worked to save an apple orchard and nearby homes. >> fire fighting for couple years now. >> reporter: spent the day digging fire lines, cutting down brush and back burning. >> when the fire reaches this point no more fuel for it to burn. >> been going like this a couple days. pretty intense. >> reporter: shawn came from salem, oregon, wrapped up a 16-hour day. >> really kind of have to stand in awe, not much you can do but just prepare. >> reporter: the dry weather and excessive temperatures have made this battle a big one but it's the wind that made this fire destructive. >> sometimes it will pick up and get heavy gusts. >> sometimes we can't stop but it's very hard to see families lose their homes.

west virginia, 69 degrees, 70 frederick and gaithersburg, 73 in annapolis, waldorf at 74 degrees. out the door weather this morning, temperatures will continue to climb. we'll be up into the upper 70s to near 80 by lunch time. and there are rain chances today, but it's not a big rain chance. only 30%. the best chances of getting rain are across the shenandoah valley and high spots around the blue ridge. a low chance of getting anything in town today. storm team 4 radar which bears that out. few sprinkles in maryland and a few towards st. mary's county but that's about it for now. another little ripple in the atmosphere which will be passing overhead between about 2:00 and 5:00s this afternoon. that will probably be our best chance of actually getting a 10 to 15 minute long sprinkle or light rain shower here in town but it shouldn't be enough to really destroy your afternoon. our future weather forecast, this is our high resolution model here in town. and look at how low the rainfall amounts are. tenth of an inch in frederick and fairfax.10 in waldorf.

amsterdam to kuala lumpur when shot down over eastern ukraine. the finger pointing over who fired the missile continues today. neither are taking full responsibility. >> but new intelligence could speed up a confection. jim miklaszewski has that part of the story this morning. >> reporter: these are the tell-tale photos the ukraine government claims are the smoking gun. they're reportedly pictures of three russian missile launchers like the one used in the shootedown of the malaysian airliner and they're in eastern ukraine where the u.s. is certain the deadly missile was launched. one launcher is missing one of its missiles. ukrainians claim all three were driven back into russia one day after the shoot down. >> we know for sure the team was russian and they came from the territory of russian federation together with the missile launcher.

>> reporter: u.s. officials suspect that russian trainers and advisors embedded with rebel forces inside ukraine fired the missile or at least gave the command to shoot down the plane. >> the missile itself is a sophisticated piece of technology. it strains to think that it could be used by separatists without at least some measure of russian support and technical assistance. >> reporter: u.s. intelligence also gets help from the rebels themselves who can't seem to keep a secret. >> people are saying we shot down an airplane and then saying we really didn't mean that. >> reporter: the missiles are russian made loaded from a vehicle with electronics. the missile is 18 feet long with a range of 25 miles, 46,000 feet altitude and a speed approaching 1 mile per second is. u.s. officials claim the russians used the same type missile to bring down a ukrainian military cargo plane only three days before the shoot down of the malaysian airliner.

multiple families are now out of their homes and fire officials tell us that fortunately nobody was hurt. also this morning, a crash caused a mess overnight of a work zone in arlington. this happened around 4:00 in the morning on 395 south between the exits from route 27 and glebe road. crews have been repaving the highway on this stretch all week. police say this was a two-vehicle crash and the good news here, happy to report that everyone is expected to be okay. in prince george's county, police are searching for the driver of a deadly crash. 23-year-old brendan munnerland was kill when he -- when the ford mustang he was riding in crashed on thursday evening. # that car went off the road in in the 16,300 block of mckendry road in brandywine. a passenger riding in the back seat was injured. police say the driver was seen running from the car after the crash. investigators say it looks like speed was a factor.

new problems for washington redskins owner dan snyder. a native american tribe has refused money from his fund-raising group. a group was created to support native americans and offered to pay for a $250,000 skate park that the tribe was trying to build but the tribe refused the money saying they can't accept money from a team who uses a racial slur for a name and the head of the tribe says the foundation's director also used the word redskin in front of him during a meeting and it was uncomfortable. so you see it on facebook all the time. proud parents showing off their kids, but why you'll see one particular baby picture a lot in the next couple days. >> pretty cute. and they could see it coming. one man grabbed his cell phone. we'll show you what happened when this hot air balloon started flying dangerously low.

we got to warn you the next story is a little difficult to watch but this is a hot air balloon in this video that crashed into power lines in clinton, massachusetts, last night. you can see the spark and the explosion of that moment of impact. the faa believes that the balloon was trying to land in a residential area and five people, a few which you saw on your screen, were very badly burned. however, it's not clear how all of this began to unfold. hundreds of people also in that area wound up losing power. you may remember a similar incident happened in caroline county, virginia, if may. the hot air balloon was coming in for a landing hit power lines. the crash killed the pilot and two passengers. the pilot had more than two decades of experience. still not clear why the balloon hit the power lines. if you're planning on taking

metro you may want to bring patience with you. the green belt station closed for track work on the green line. you will have to get on a schultz bus. expect delays on the red, orange and blue lines. all trains should be back to their normal schedules for the monday morning commute. as the silver line starts its simulation ride this week we have tips to keep you on time. take one of the simulation trains as far as east falls church and transfer to a vienna pound train on the same platform. simulation trains are expected to have more room for passengers than vienna bound trains. riders traveling between virginia and d.c. may want to consider taking the yellow line for a faster trip. it's not just the construction anymore, though, because you can already start seeing the silver shine as of today as of this morning. >> that's right. we had a live shot from derrick ward at the top of the hour that shows the trains are on the tracks. this will be change for everybody in the region, through falls church to tysons corner to reston. you will be seeing those trains

move. they cross over the top of the beltway in tysons corner so that will be an absolute change. things will start changing for the entire metro system. >> tysons corner is an area that has been under work for a long time. >> construction. >> it's going to continue that way for quite some time. tysons is getting an overhauling with this. >> when you think about tysons it started off as a corner store at route 7 and 123. it was a corner store. now you take a look at some of the plans for it and there will be big high rises, all the stuff built around metro stations. take look at your screen. doesn't look like this yet. it's going to take time to get to this point where we have this development, people walking around, and all sorts of development around the metro stations. this is going to turn into what some people see as a type of midtown manhattan feel for tysons corner in virginia. there's a 60 story tower planned for the capital one complex right by the mcclain station on 123 that will be happening soon.

in the next five years, people say just watch what happens out there. we're going to see dramatic things. we have four brand new stations in tysons and then the wiehle station that goes out beyond that. >> where we will see congestion because of this working out, silver, orange and blue. >> and they all kind of meet there at the rosslyn station and you can't get them all through a tunnel under the rosslyn -- under the water in the potomac. so you've got to take trains, some trains on the blue line have actually been pulled back and so these why some blue line riders are going to lose a little service when the silver line starts tomorrow with the simulated service. there's a big change for our region, big change for metro riders. it's a good thing. we're getting another transportation option. when you talk about the traffic around here there's nothing better than saying you might have another way. >> another option. >> so if you're seeing the trains today, your eyes are not deceiving you. we are almost there. really days from the -- >> it's happening. >> it's happening, yeah. >> chuck bell is joining us now for a little bit of gray sky out
