melissa mollet watching the road closures for you that just changed a few minutes ago. we start with megan mcgrath live with police as they try to figure out what happened here. megan, what do we know? >> reporter: well, we can tell you that police are still here on the scene collecting evidence. take a look behind me here. you can see all of the police cars. you can see perhaps an evidence bag there besides one of the vehicles there. they have been at it all morning long and continue with this effort. they actually have several different crime scenes in the area. all of them connected. of course, they are focusing most of their attention on huron avenue where the victim was found. an adult male found dead here just a little down from the corner of the street. now this all began to unfold at 1:30 this morning. when officers arrived on the scene they began to look around and discovered the body of this adult male here on hur ton aven.

no more information about the investigation itself, but still very active. we are expecting police to be here on the scene for a while yet. and this is having an impact on traffic in the area, although i should say there is some improvement now. with more on that, we'll go to melissa mollet. we have been chatting here throughout the morning talking about this situation in suitland. and what we know from the scene from megan, there's silver hill road now open. suitland road near huron avenue is still shut down. you don't have to go back around the rear of the federal center. your best alternate is pennsylvania or southern. take a live look here at a traffic camera, 270 at middlebrook road is looking good at this point this morning. no major issues or problems there. tom, coming up in the next couple of minutes, a wider look at the beltway. the only real problem on the beltway is near central avenue

where we have lanes blocked because of the earlier crash. the traffic looks good there and the weather looks good now. it's a typical mid-summer morning. and the weather headlines for today, another go sleeveless day today. hotter and more humid by mid-afternoon. and there's a small chance of an isolated storm by later this afternoon. and much of the region, by noontime, we'll have our temperatures in the low to mid-80s after we get some high clouds thick anything up a little bit. and steamy humidity in the afternoon as we reach near 90 degrees between 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. that's when we might get an isolated thunderstorm popping up. coming up in the next ten minutes at 6:11, chuck bell is joining us live on eighth street. now, erika, back to you. we have new developments now in the investigation of malaysia airlines flight 17. in the past 20 minutes we have learned malaysia airlines investigators just arrived on the scene of the crash site. the bodies of the passengers are now in a safe area of ukraine.

forensic experts will now examine the remains beforehanding them over to the netherlands for further identification. all but 16 of the bodice on board flight 17 have been recovered. an international team of investigators is also examining the plane's black box recorders. armed rebels turned them over last night. and in the meantime, russia denies involvement in the crash. the foreign ministry says a ukrainian fighter jet had tracked the airliner despite kiev's assertions that no aircraft were nearby or was nearby at the time. the european union will meet today to consider further sanctions against russia. 6:03 right now and neighbors say they knew the two young men who were locked in a basement in a rockville home three years ago. they told police about it then but it took until now for any action to take place. janice and john land are facing child abuse and false imprisonment charges. police say they kept the

bob mcdonnell's corruption trial. but the former virginia governor is asking a federal judge to keep that official subpoena private. according to the richmond types dispatch, mcdonnell may call the witness to testify about the conversation the two had. the former governor and his wife are accused of taking personal favors from a virginia businessman in exchange for state promotion. that trial begins next monday. today president obama will recognize the country's historic mission to the moon. this month believe it or not marks 45 years since neil armstrong took the first steps on the moon. in 1969 apollo ii set off with a crew of three from florida's kennedy space center. the president plans to meet with apollo representatives this morning at the white house. we are following a developing story as explosions light up the gaza sky right now. meetings are underway to stop the fighting between israel and hamas. why both sides will agree to a five-hour break in the violence.

attack, well, four of the ems officers who responded to the scene have been suspended without pay. the investigators say the ems workers did not attempt to perform cpr on the man. the officer accused of using the chokehold has been stripped of his badge and gun. 18 after the hour. d.c. police are looking for a person who stabbed a man in the brooklyn neighborhood. the stabbing happened last night at 13th and evarts street northeast. at last check, the man was conscious and breathing at the hospital. we are learning the pilot in a plane crash in fredericksburg intended to crash the plane. edwin hassell rented the sesna plane that went down on july 22nd, 2013. they found that hassell was diagnosed with severe dprex weeks before the plane went down. a judge is looking to stop the closure of 15 d.c. public schools. activists sued the chancellor from closing the schools.

storms on wednesday as we heat into the mid-90s tomorrow afternoon. it will be more humid tomorrow. and a likelihood of the storms coming through late afternoon into early evening. now there's a small chance for some of the storms to produce damaging winds and hail late tomorrow afternoon and into the evening. after we get through that, that's the front coming through. maybe a lingering shower thursday morning turning less humid thursday afternoon with highs in the mid-80s as well as on friday. the low humidity. friday is the best day of the next several days into the weekend. a little more humidity around, perhaps an isolated shower on sunday and into monday. and tuesday of next week. we have the possibility of maybe more storms around. i'm back in ten minutes with a look at the storm timing hour by hour through the day and where it may be hitting first. that's coming up at 6:31. how is traffic? major slowdowns to talk about. good thing the weather is decent at this hour. because if we add rain to this, it would be a mess. 95 southbound at 100, very slow.

95 south at route 100, the right lane is blocked. if you can avoid it, please do so. 270 at germantown road, we are looking pretty good. i'm back in ten minutes. 6:32. today jury selection begins for a d.c. police officer charged with trying to kill his wife in prince george's county. prosecutors say sampson lawrence iii beat his wife and threat opened her with two knives at their home back in november. court documents say he beat her with a metal lamp pole and sprayed lysol in her face. he tried to hang a projection tv in his house and an argument was started. detectives are looking for witnesses after a woman was attacked in frederick, maryland. around 11:00 yesterday morning the woman was walking in a wooded area near patrick and davis avenues when a man came

humanitarian pause that never materialized and senior israeli officials we have been speaking to say they are not optimistic that a cease-fire could come any time soon. in fact, they are pushing ahead with this offensive. israel says it is trying to uproot a network of tunnels in gaza and it is finding that network of tunnels and the caliber of the fighters much more extensive and much better trained than the israeli army had been expecting. in fact, there was something of a recrimination game going on among the israeli public from the israeli intelligence services blaming each other for not recognizing how strong the hamas militants head become. here in gaza, we are continuing to see a lot of civilian casualties according to officials from the health ministry. more than 600 palestinians have been killed since the offensive began. about 25% of them children. another 25% of them women. in total, at least 27 israeli soldiers have also been killed

in this fight. >> richard engel live in gaza city. thank you for that. more on the conflict there and the push for a cease-fire on the "today" show after ""news4 today"." breaking news, police in suitland say a man was murdered along huron avenue at 2:00 this morning where we find news4's megan mcgrath who has been there all morning tracking the developments of this case. megan, good morning, what can you tell us? >> reporter: well, i can tell you police here on the scene have started to focus their attention on an alleyway right behind suitland liquor. just a short time ago, they brought forensic equipment back behind there. d a little while ago i spoke to a woman who says she and her boyfriend were with the victim a short time ago before all this happened. everything seemed normal. there was nothing strange going on. they left and parted ways and she said a little while later she got a call from another friend who said he was dead.

>> me and my boyfriend was there prior to the incident happening. when we pulled back up to see him, that's when we noticed this being taped off. we got home and that's when we got a call. >> reporter: and she says it is her understanding there was some kind of an argument between the victim and a group of other people. that led up to all of this. we'll tell you that this happened just a little bit before 2:00 in the morning. police got a 911 call and responded here to the scene and came here to the scene when they found the victim bleeding. they are not saying the cause of death or what may have happened, whether a weapon was used or whether this was a beating. they are not saying that at this point. no word of suspect descriptions or arrests at this time. there were a number of road closures in the area including silver hill that has reopened. silver hill has reopened, which is good news for folks who work in the suitland federal center. for a while the main gate was
