southwest airlines trying to figure out if a fire is to blame for one of its planes making an emergency landing in columbus, ohio. flight 424 left baltimore late last night, it was on its way to chicago when crews found smoke in the cargo area. all 54 passengers and crew members jumped off the plane on the emergency slide. nobody was hurt. southwest now trying to figure out where exactly the smoke was coming from and if there was a fire in the car go hold what started it. in just a few hours, the mother of a d.c. police officer on trial for attempted murder is expected to testify. officer lawrence is accused of trying to kill his wife. prosecutors say he attacked her in their home last november. their 17-year-old daughter had to testify yesterday. she told the 911 operator my father is beating my mother. i need to you come now. if convicted, lawyer reps could

so we'll watch it carefully. no severe weather out there just yet, but add in daytime heating and there will be a bunch, that will intensify the storms. 73 in hagerstown. 72 fredericksburg. up to near 94 by 3:00 this afternoon. the timing on the rain arriving earliest in northern and western maryland. also the area that may seat strongest potential for thunderstorms today. not as much of a risk for severe weather down southern maryland because the storms arrive after the sun goes down. and then virginia 95 through dale city slow, as well. we it just hear about a new accident d.c. 295 after eastern avenue, that is supposed to be in the right lane. and would explain some of the red on the map there. taking a look a 395 at edsall, remember we do have a situation chopper 4 over this, but it's a situation at king street where some of it is confusing as folks mer merge into the left lanes. today the man convicted of killing a teen will learn his fate. randy taylor will be sentence for the death of alexis murphy. the 17-year-old was last seen at a gas station last summer but her body was never found. a jury recommended two life sentences for taylor. >> the legal fight to take over struggling schools in virginia has ended. the plan would have let a board run by the state take over poor performing schools in virginia. that included jefferson houston school in alexandria. former governor mcdonnell pushed for the takeover, but a judge
