suspects ends in another state. friends of the victim were afraid to speak out. what they are saying now that he's been caught. >> and training camp in richmond. we will hear from the new coach of the burgundy and gold. >> news at 11:00 starts now. >> we begin tonight with the story of a botched execution in arizona. >> witnesses say a death row inmate killed by lethal injection was gasping for nearly two hours before he died. jackie benson is at our live desk with more. jackie? >> jim, it was a decision made here in washington earlier today that cleared the way for this execution. the u.s. supreme court upheld the state of arizona's desire to keep secret the drugs that were used. >> witnesses say 55-year-old joseph wood remained alive gasping for breath for nearly two hours after the state of arizona began the execution. >> it started off looking as if it was going all right but then

obviously something didn't go right. >> he was sedated. the doctor kept saying he was sedated. there was no expression of pain. i don't think you could say that. i mean, he was unconscious. but he was clearly struggling for breath. and that's atypical. as i say, usually an execution takes 10, 11 minutes, and you see virtually nothing. >> he was sentenced to death for kiting his girlfriend and her father. and victims family say that should be what is at focus, not the execution. >> it sound to me like he was snoring. you don't know what excruciating is. what is excruciatinging is seeing your dad laying there under a pool of blood. your sister laying there in a pool of blood. he deserved everything he had coming to him. >> arizona governor jan brewer

has ordered a review of procedures. earlier this year oklahoma put executions on hold after a controversial execution that lasted 43 minutes, believed to have been caused by the combination of the drugs used in the injection. out in drug that was long used by states that have the death penalty is no longer available here in the u.s. at the live desk, i'm jackie benson. >> thanks, jackie. it is that problem with supplying drugs for lethal injection that could effect the executions throughout the country. the state of virginia is reviewing its lethal injection methods. because the sedative used is becoming more difficult to find. the state could turn to other methods, including thelectric chair. the company has sev death row. d.c. aed the death penalty back in 1981. maryland voters did away with it in 2012. >> turning to our weather now, a hot humid afternoon turned into a stormy evening for some of us. let's go to storm team 4

killer is poefrp u.s. marshals arrested michael gail in charlotte, north carolina. he is accused of killing his girlfriend, ebony, in southeast washington while her children were at home. news 4 spoke to neighbors about the arrest tonight. >> ebony was a beloved mother, a well respected neighbor. >> she was a good girl. >> this man who doesn't want to be identified is relieved her estranged boyfriend, michael gail, is behind bars tonight. >> what is so good about it. >> accused of killing her outside her d.c. home last month. police found gail in charlotte, north carolina tuesday morning and arrested him. they say he stabbed ebony to death in front of her kids. ebony is a domestic violence victim. >> horrific case. we had children in the home at the time of the homicide. the trauma those children will live with the rest of their lives is hard to imagine.

>> neighbors tell me the couple began to argue because michael guy wouldn't help ebony with cutting the grass. they told me she asked him to leave a month ago when he refused to help pay some bills. >> he left with a book bag and little cot. >> ebony was 31 years old. she leaves behind two kids and heart broken neighbores who demand justice. >> in southeast d.c., sha marry stone, news 4. >> roberts and hinson talked to a girl on instagram. they lured her away, then to roberts' house, where they took turns sexually assaulting her. he was released from jail last year for assault in 2001. tonight, both men are in jail.

>> diplomatic meetings are held in an effort to stop the fighting. secretary of state john kerry met with leaders from israel and palestinian authority along with united nations. they are pushing f a cease-fire but that goal seems distant as the death toll continues to climb in gaza. 36 israelis and 695 palestinians have been killed so far. many of them civilians. u.n. claims human rights are being violated by both sides and that over the past two days, one child has died every hour in gaza. >> tonight, the state department is denying any notion that federal aviation administration is stopping u.s. flights to tel aviv for political reasons. a spokesperson says the faa's decision is based solely on the safety of american citizens. 31 carriers in the u.s., europe and asia have stopped flights into ben gurion airport one day after a missile struck about a mile from that airport.

many passengers say they understand the concerns. >> we're not really in a position to jue whether the security threat was largeugh no. we think it is just -- [ inaudible ] >> former new york city mayor michael bloomberg flew to tel aviv on an israeli airline in protest of that decision. he says the airport is safe. >> it was an emotional homecoming for some of the victims of malaysia flight 17. the first 40 victims were brought home to the netherlands. almost a week after the plane was shot down in ukraine. people lined the streets in order to salute them. the body must still be identified. the remains of more than 250 passengers and crew members have yet to be returned. >> only 20 miles from the crash site last week of that malaysian airliner.

there is new plane records tonight in ukraine. pro russian activist shot down two ukrainian fighter jets. those rebels posted this youtube video of the wreckage. nbc news cannot independently verify this video. the pilot of one of those planes was killed. the other is still missing. >> for the second time in less than a week, somebody tried to bring a gun into a building on capitol hill. in tis case, the man didn't even work there. ronald prestige sits in jail after he was arrested. officers found a loaded gun in his bag when he went through security. he was there to meet with a south carolina congressman. his arrest comes five days after a capitol hill staffer was arrested at the psalm buisame b for a similar incident. >> all right, here we go. training camp opening down in richmond today. jason here now with more on what fans can look forward to in the next couple of weeks. jason? >> with so many story lines

>> the new york can get more affordable housing but they have to use a separate entrance at one luxury building in the city. what it is called is the poor door. the city's mayor wants it stopped. a luxury development will have separate doors for low income residents because the mayor says contracts with developers were signed before he took office. developers can get tax breaks for new low income units in their buildings. de blasio said he wants it change the zoning code to stop the special doors and stop developers from limiting access for amenities to low income residents. >> upset, embarrassed and humiliateed. that's how a minnesota man felt after he and his two young children were kicked off a southwest airlines plane. and it wasn't because the kids were disruptive. it all had to do with a tweet.

thunderstorms at 83 degrees right now. early tomorrow morning at 75. 76 at 7:00 a.m. fog hanging on until 8:00 or 9:00 a.m. can't rule out an isolated shower. unlike today, temperatures won't rise very quickly tomorrow. hitting 81 degrees, around germantown, 82 in d.c. around waldorf to fairfax and falls church. 83 degrees for high temperature. cooler than average and well, i told you, i would tell you how long the cool air is sticking around. we have heat coming our way. 90 to 93 degrees. yes, the chance for a few more showers and thunderstorms. mainly sunday, during the afternoon. those thunderstorms, yes, with the building humidity again, but you know what? like most of this summer, guys, it's not hanging on that long. we're back to cooler conditions starting tuesday of next week. and i can tell you that not only for the end of july but at least for the first couple of days of
