weapon can now be included with the district's enhanced hate crime penalty. >> court records indicate the suspect, 24-year-old reginald cline stands more than 6 feet tall and weighs more than 200 pounds. the 15-year-old victim's friends, teenagers themselves, describe an ugly hate-filled encounter on the green line during rush hour. >> this man is a crazy man. he got on the train and he -- i don't know, he was on something. and was just at my friend like, you're ugly. you got this -- hair, are you a man, are you a man? like he pulled out a knife and stabbed my friend. that's when i maced him. >> moments later, the train pulled into the station. metro police were at the scene he was attempting to get away. >> officers took him in custody in the station, recovered the knife used. >> court records indicate he has a lengthy criminal history that includes assault and resisting

arrest. >> news 4 learned that the suspect most recent arrest was just two weeks ago. the charge, carrying a concealed weapon. we understand the knife recovered today is described as a 3 1/2 inch folding knife. live at the metro station, jackie benson, news 4. >> thank you, jackie. a boy is charged with attempted robbery in the shooting of an 18-year-old girl. police say he took over the victim and fired shots at point blank range. it started on pliers mill road at 5:00 this morning when a group of boys and girls arranged to meet via text message. the girl was shot after she fell on the ground during a confrontation. >> they were screaming, then i heard gunshots. >> how many? >> about two. then everything went quiet. >> police have not released the name of the 13-year-old suspect. investigators believe the girl

may have been set up for a robbery. >> a maryland family fighting to bring a sick relative home is grieving his death. we first told you about nathanial dennis last night. he travelled to liberia, suffered a surgery and fell into a coma. he tested negative for ebola. they consider his death a mystery. >> i'm feeling hurt. >> trapped in a whirl wind of emotion for a memorial for his brother. the 24-year-old was in a coma for over a week in liberia, stuck in ongoing ebola quarantine and died last night. >> at the same time, i'm feeling relieved because i know my brother is no longer suffering any more. >> news 4 first told you about nathani dennis last night. he died after our newscast. his family was raising money to bring him back to the u.s. >> we are devastated. we don't feel defeated because we tried as hard as we could. >> the family tells me the

infected with ebola. chris lawrence is at our live desk. >> officials closed schools across the country and placing all nonessential government workers on mandatory leave for the next month. they have ordered security teams to impose these restrictions but they hope residents will understand why certain areas have to be quarantined and there won't be any need for my exceptional force. west africa needs all the help it can get to help with this outbreak. a lot of groups are evacuating the area. volunteers from liberia, sierra leone and new guinea are being taken out. this involved more cross-border travel. two american aide workers have been infected with ebola. one doctor from texas has been quarantined to his home in

liberia. another volunteer is in isolation. her husband is there in liberia. she spoke with her son today. >> she is continuing to do well. she was still fighting through symptoms. as she has strength, being able to move around a little bit -- >> british officials held a crisis meeting today to talk about what they would do if the deadly virus spread. but a lot of western health officials say they learned a lot about identifying and containing infectious diseases during the sars outbreak about 11 years ago. because of that, they think it is highly unlikely ebola could spread throughout north america. at the live desk, i'm chris lawrence. >> thank you, chris. a key witness in the corruption trial of former governor and first lady took the stand today. johnny williams gave a blunt explanation about why he showered bob and doreen mcdonnell with gift. he is testifying for the prosecution which laid out a long list of gifts from williams, including the use of

this ferrari on vacation. he said he wanted it meet the governor because quote, he's a politician and i'm a businessman. williams gifts included loans, flying the mcdonnel daughters it a bachelorette party. and a $10,000 gift to one of the mcdonnell daughters. >> the gifts were far beyond what we would normally get from a personal friend. p. >> prosecution said he gave the gifts hoping to gain backing for a new dietary supplement. >> castillo is accused of murdering his wife and making it look like suicide. the judge ruled he can stay out on bail but has to wear a monitoring device. he had been in jail since april.

prosecutors released new evidence claiming that dna links him to the murder scene. also today a former montgomery county swim coach plead guilty to abusing a student in the '80s. christopher yacht is the founder of the maryland suburban swim club. he was arrested in april after one of his former swimmers told police that he abused her for five years starting when she was around 6 or 7. yacht is out on bond right now and in exchange for his plea, prosecutors will recommend he face a maximum of ten years in prison. he is to be sentenced in september as well. >> an arrest in a rape investigation in northern virginia. victims are just 11 and 12 years old. police say the girls were sexually assaulted inside a private home on gable ridge road. three teenagers are charged, 17 and 16 years old. investigators believe victims and suspects know each other. two of the accused teenagers are held in a juvenile detention

center. the other was released to his guardian. >> new tonight, a rockville doctor is behind bars for allegedly running a pill mill. his name is silvu ziscovci. he is also known as dr. z. between 2009 and 2013 he made runs of thousands of dollars selling drugs. one of his patients died for using methadone for no medical reason. he faces a mandatory 20 years to life for that patient's death and 20 years for each of the 29 counts of distribution. he is due back in court on friday. >> developing tonight, veteran's affairs department appears on track to get a major overhaul. the house passed a bill. it is intended to help veterans avoid long waits for health care, hire more doctors and make firing executives easier. the vote was nearly unanimous with five lawmakers voting

against the plan. it is expected to pass if the senate by the end of the week. >> and a fix to that ongoing border crisis looks less likely to pass before the congress goes on their five-week break. in the mean tile, maryland congressman will be joining 11 other lawmakers on a trip to the border later this week. >> later, the house did pass a plan to sue president obama. the bill does not need to pass in the senate leafing speaker john boehner free to further the lawsuit. they are suing the president with exceeding his constitutional power with his executive orders. >> the number of palestinians killed in this conflict has now passed 1300. israel said it lost nearly 60 people in fighting that began three weeks ago. today, the u.s. condemned another deadly strike on a united nations school in gaza that was being used as a

left of the watermain break. so flooded wednesday that crews couldn't get in for repairs. >> we cannot begin any of the repairs until we get the water completely down, and we're working on that. >> when it broke, water gushed down at a rate of 75 gallons a minute, flowing for nearly four hours, mainly on to the college campus. >> this is damage to our athletic facilities, garages, and a lot of pain to employees, students, and visitors stuck here. >> there are some 900 vehicles, close to half submerged at some point. also eight inches of water flowed outside and inside the famed pauly pavilion basketball arena, just two years after $136 million renovation. >> our gyms are very much effected. the wooden center has water damage. does not have power right now.

take a dinner outside tomorrow night, too. once again, we're looking at a fantastic afternoon. now we are looking at a few showers. this is up towards martinsburg. this will come right over in through portions of frederick county, maryland. heads up, up there, you won't see much rain but you will see sprinkles if you are thinking of taking the dog on a late night walk. these clouds will move over in the next few hours. they will thin but not nearly as cool as the last couple of nights. we have been on the cooler side all week. the reason why, a big ridge of high pressure. hot weather back towards the west. san francisco, warmest july they've ever seen. for us, on the east side of this. big trough of low pressure. really over the past month or so. we will stay that way through next month too. if you like this cooler weather and, stick around. there will be a few hotter days
