will do anything i can do to convict him. he has not pleaded guilty. he pleaded not guilty. i'm mu i'm -- pat lawson muse. >> a woman was hit and killed by a bus today. >> this video shows the victim entering the cross walk. she never made it to the other side. it happened in upper marl boreo. tracee wilkins talked to a remember former bus driver who witnessed the crash. >> reporter: let me show you what he says happened. this woman was crossing main street at the intersection. the bus was making a left turn on to main street and struck her while she was in the intersection. why the bus would hit someone in the cross walk, all of that is a partf this investigation.

>> this elderly woman was on her way to the post office with tragedy struck in the intersection. >> i heard a guy walking and hollering trying to indicate to the bus driver to stop. at that point it was too late. >> reporter: a security camera practically captured the entire incident. you see the witness trying to intercede. a prince george's county transit bus hit the woman as she crossed the intersection with no hesitation. >> we don't know at this time. the driver is very shaken up. we are unable to speak with her. she may have either hit the gas accidently or did not see the lady due to a blind spot. >> i'm a former bus driver. >> reporter: this man witnessed the accident. >> i got nervous and i wasn't involved. that's why i pulled over because i started shaking. >> reporter: he says once the bus driver stopped it was obvious she was shocked.

>> the bus driver was screaming because at that point she realized what happened. >> reporter: there were only a few passengers on the bus. none of them were injured. the bus driver was transported to the hospital for emotional distress. >> she will have to deal with this for the rest of her life. the family of the victim will have to deal with it. it is a sad situation. >> reporter: no word yet on possible charges for the bus driver. coming up on news 4 at 6:00 there was another accident that happened at this exact intersection and a woman was struck but survived. she spoke with us about how it felt and what it has been like for her crossing the intersection. she wants to see major changes. i'm tracee wilkins. >> a motorcycle is in pieces after a violent crash. that biker is in very serious condition. police say the 21 year old was riding the motorcycle when it slammed into an suv on good hope

road. a nearby shop owner was talking to his wife who was out of town when the crash happened. he said it sounded like an explosion. >> and i heard the impact and she heard it through the phone. i hung up with her and called the ambulance. and a fire truck came flying up the street. >> the motorcycle rider was taken to the hospital with critical injuries. >> a long day on the stand continues for the prosecution's star witness in the corruption trial. jonnie williams told jurors his relationship with the former first family was all business. julie carey joins us with very important developments. >> reporter: even though the cross examination is underway right now most of the day jonnie williams was being questioned and he delivered exactly what

prosecutors want jurors to hear. he said he lavished gifts on the mcdonnell's so he could get something in return. jonnie williams was the sole witness today and made it perfectly clear he thought his relationship with the former first family as a business proposition. the mcdonnells were not my personal friends. asked the prosecutor, why were you giving them these things then, williams, i thought it would be good for my company. the company he once had was trying to get a new product to market, a nutritional supplement. the first lady arranged a lunch in 2011 inviting bcu doctors so williams could make a pitch for them to do research. asked the prosecutor did you think you would get that event if you did not give things of value, williams, i did not. those included a $50,000 check and thousands of dollars in golf

outings and equipment. one of the gifts a rolex watch that williams bought for the first lady to give to the governor. maureen mcdonnell once asked about the watch. i said do you want me to get one of these watches for the governor? she said that would be nice. williams told the prosecutor it was wrong to buy the watch. i shouldn't have to buy things like that to get the help i needed said williams. i made a mistake when i bought that watch. it was a bad business decision on my part. and prosecutors say one of the most important questions for last when they asked jonnie did you have a romantic relationship with maureen mcdonnell. he answered flatly no. the defense team say maureen mcdonnell had a crush on williams and the marriage was so broken they couldn't have

an effort to get a vote on the crisis at the border. earlier today dozens of people taken away in handcuffs outside the white house willingly. police arrested more than 100 immigration protesters. demonstrator said it is a show of solidarity for the tens of thousands of central americans who crossed the border into the u.s. in recent months. >> sister from other countries tell of gangs and violence and the reasons why people are forced. i need to be with them. i need to speak with them in this country and i'm willing to do anything it takes. >> some of the protesters called on president obama to use more of his executive power to stop deporting undocumented immigrants in the midst of this humanitarian crisis. >> that protest came as republicans postponed the crucial vote on the immigration bill leaving the bill in limbo.

christen welker has more on what this means for lawmakers who are under mounting pressure today. >> reporter: they postponed their vacation by one day. house leadership pulling the legislation that would have dealt with the border crisis, a piece of legislation they have moved so far to the right just to make sure that it got passed. what i mean by that president obama was asking for $3.7 billion to deal with the crisis at the border. the bill in the senate is for about half of that. this house bill was for significantly less, $659 million and still house leadership couldn't garner enough support. this bill also included a provision that would have prevented the administration from expanding the controversial action program and also had a

provision that would have amended the 2008 law which would have given the administration more flexibility to deport some of the unaccompanied minors who have come across the border, 52,000 of them in recent months. it is also a blow to the new house leadership as eric cantor is stepping down. kevin mccarthy taking over for him. steve scalice the new whip counter. the lawmakers know if they leave without getting something done they will have to explain why that is. a lot of pressure on president obama to get something done. he has said he will deal with the broader issue of immigration possibly in an executive action that he will announce by the end of the summer. i am told by white house officials he is still on track to do that. back to you. >> thanks so much. a new report shows a train derailment that killed two college students could have been prevented. the national transportation safety board says the csx train

derailed two years ago because of a broken rail. it is evidence of a surface break down. nothing the young women did contributed to the accident in any way. the women were trespassing on a railroad bridge when coal spilled out of the cars and killed them. his suspension became the talk of the nfl, "the view" and social media. ray rice spoke for the first time since the nfl suspended him for two games. carol maloney is here with some of rice's comments. >> it was the fact that he only got two games that angered a lot of people after some of the nfl's tough punishment on drug use. today rice says he accepts his punishments and said his actions were totally inexcusable. rice was suspended after being arrested in february for

assaulting his then-fiance now wife. he was seen pulling her out of an elevator unconscious. because he is on probation he wouldn't answer questions about the incident. he spent most time apologizing to his wife and all domestic violence victims saying he is ashamed he has to live with this for the rest of his life. >> my actions that night were totally inexcusable. i'm here today to tell you that i made the biggest mistake of my life. she can do no wrong. she is an angel. no football games and no money is going to determine what i have to live with the rest of my life. so that punishment that i receive by the nfl, it hurts because i can't go out there and play football but it hurts more that i have to plain what happened to my daughter. >> rice will lose more than $500,000 due to that suspension but that is nothing he says

knowing one day his 2-year-old daughter will google his name and this incident will be the first thing she sees. we are going to look to the skies right now. our weather just this nice weather is starting to change. we will get the latest from doug. >> it is starting to change but not just yet. we have nice temperatures right now. temperatures in the mid 80s and upper 80s across the region. you mentioned it. the changes are coming. a few clouds coming in and a couple of showers. most of the area will remain on the drier side. towards i-81 and winchester and panhandle and washington county maryland this line of showers making its way through. that is something we will see. we see a few more towards southern maryland. don't be surprised to see a shower or two. over the next couple of days future weather lots of clouds and showers return. we will see a lot in the way of showers across the region.

more on our breaking news. pat collins has just arrived on the scene of that water main break on rhode island avenue. >> here we are. it is rhode island avenue and crichton street. the water is just bubbling out of the street here. it's been going on now for close to an hour. the street is closed down for blocks on either side. rhode island avenue is route 1. it is a major, major commuter route. it has caused a tremendous traffic problem out here. it's also caused a problem for some of the businesses here. across the street that is his business, a city wide auto sales. he is on crittenton and rhode island avenue and right now

pretty much an island unto himself. no customers can get in, nobody can get out. tell me what it is like here. >> it is not fun now. it has been going on for a long time. construction on this road and let me tell you that i'm the own of that business. even though my address is 4211 please i would like to tell them that [ inaudible ]. >> nobody can get in. >> nobody can get in. >> reporter: nobody can get out. >> people come and put the gps. and i'm losing my business. the landlords want rent every month. i have to pay every month.

who will be responsible? >> hopefully they will get this squared away. malik is one of the business men marooned by the water main break. this is route 1 and you can see the force of that water as it just bubbles out from underneath the street here. it has been going on for about an hour. route 1 is a major, major commuter route out here. it is shut down for blocks on either side. cars are being detoured around the water main break but it will be some time before they get things back to normal here. i will be on the scene and hope to talk to someone from the wssc pretty soon. >> i'm sure as we look and the camera just panned i didn't see anyone from the wssc.

are there trucks out there out of view? >> reporter: there are workers. if we go over there we can see. they are searching for the right valve to shut this thing down and work out some sort of water by pass here. it takes some time because this is a pretty large break and will take time to figure out how to attack it. again, i'm hoping to have somebody here to explain how they are going to go about cleaning things up here. i'll be back later. >> a lot of frustration not only with the store owner but the people in the cars being detoured around that. that is a huge area. >> 5:00 hour no worse time for that to happen. >> and you can't get there from here. there is no other way around that. it is going to be nasty everywhere. >> at least if they are sitting in traffic. >> can they open the sun roof? >> today the silver lining happens to be the weather. it has been so nice over the last couple of days.

things are about to change in a little bit of a big way. a lot of sunshine the last couple of days and not going to see a lot of sunshine the next couple of days. you have seen the clouds on the increase. look at the cloud cover as you look out towards the capital. you notice the cloud cover here from plenty of sunshine to mostly cloudy skies. temperatures finally back up to where they should be this time of year although most of you really enjoyed the cooler weather. highs in the 70s, lower 80s in mid to late july. high temperature around 87 degrees. winds out of the south at 5 miles per hour. as far as what we are seeing around the rest of the area. 82 in martinsburg. 86 in for fredericksburg. on the radar we are looking at storms. nothing around the d.c. metro area right now. towards the west this is what we are checking out here around the winchester area.

we are looking around i-81. in towards jefferson county, west virginia. heads up these are all moving towards the east. they will eventually come over the next couple of hours as the storm continues to move on. it is a bit of a frontal boundary trying to move through. a few showers associated with that. on the bigger scale notice the moisture starting to make its way up from the south from atlanta and the carolinas look at the moisture moving up here. that moisture will move our way overnight. we will be in the thick of it. tomorrow morning 8:00 a.m. just the clouds. maybe a shower or two. tomorrow afternoon we see a few showers here and there. it won't be a washout by any means but may be a good idea to carry the umbrella around. the backyard weather tomorrow hopefully on the dry side. tomorrow night heavy rain late tomorrow night. if you are going out a good idea to keep the umbrella handy. saturday morning another good

family with college students are relying more on savings and less on loans when it comes to paying for tuition. last year the typical family paid 22% of total college cost by borrowing down from 27% the year before. the irony is that the price of colleges is about to go up. students at public colleges and universities in the virginia area should expect to see a 5% tuition hike this fall.

if you are in the market for a cheaper cell phone plan how does $12 a month sound? the phone will only connect one social media site of your choice either facebook or twitter. that is according to "wall street journal" as wireless companies try to make service more affordable by offering special deals on use of service sites. a new report is raising concerns about overdraft services that banks offer for your debit card and atm transacti transactions. the study from the consumer financial protection bureau found most occur on transactions of $24 or less. the median overdraft is $34. the report they say should raise red flags. right now at 5:00 who did it and why? the many questions about the murder of a metro bus driver.

now a neighborhood swarmed by police, a metro bus driver shot and killed. police believe there is more to this than meets the eye. tonight a look at how many people are operating cars, trains and airplanes while high. and people walking to work end up at the hospital. the accident that turned one street into a very dangerous place. we want to get you caught up on breaking news. pat collins is on the scene of a water main break. >> reporter: over there is the water main break bubbling up. it has been going out for well over an hour. crews are on the scene. they are searching to try to find the right valve, the valve they can use to turn this water main off. it is not as easy as it sounds. we are at rhode island avenue.

rhode island avenue is a major, major road used by commuters every day. let's look down the street. you can see this road is closed for a couple of blocks southbound. you can see the traffic is being diverted down there beneath the railroad tracks. there is a backup that goes on for some time as people try to work their way around this gigantic water main break. joining me here is kadre. he says they have known about the problems with this water main for some time. tell me about last winter. >> reporter: last winter there was an incident occurred and everybody else they seen it and accident had happened -- >> reporter: the water main broke, right? and the water froze? and somebody came through on the car and skated on the ice and struck a pedestrian. and they have known about this.

>> they been knowing about it. >> reporter: you seen anybody repairing the water pipes since that time? >> nope. they just started earlier this week. they just started on 42nd place right there. >> reporter: so when you saw this today no surprise for you? >> no. no surprise to me. >> reporter: he lives right down the street. he is one of the residents. he says people have known about the problem with the water mains. we are waiting for someone from the wssc to tell us how big the pipe is and what they are going to do to try to fix it. >> thanks. we are going to stay in prince george's to tell you about a murder mystery in an upscale neighborhood. >> a metro bus driver was found dead in his home and police believe this is drug related.

>> reporter: prince george's county police just wrapped up their investigation here from the scene but they have a lot of work to do. this is the house where everything went down just before 6:00 this morning. as you said the victim in the case is a metro bus driver. i am told that his wife works for metro and worked there for 14 years. as you said police are making it clear this is drug related and the victim was targeted. a silver mercedes-benz, a silver infinity, a black range rover and white ford pickup truck all towed from this home. the victim shot and killed in his home just before 6:00 this morning. amir ali jr. was a metro bus driver for the last six years c. police say he was targeted.

>> we believe this began as a drug related robbery that ended in a murder. >> he was killed in his home but police recovered a single bullet. police officers were in and out of the home all day. forensics teams collected bags and bags of evidence. detectives canvassed the neighborhood. >> we believe there may be at least two suspects that we are looking for at this point. >> jackie peters said she heard a strange noise early this morning. >> i am a very light sleeper. probably around 4:00 this morning i heard something that sounded like a pop sound. >> reporter: one relative said a family member got a frantic call about men entering the house. sources tell news 4 that the victim's wife and son were in the home but were not hurt. prince george's police say they plan to come back out here to the neighborhood around 7:00

this evening and want to talk to neighbors to see if anyone saw anything or heard anything. they are going to be handing out flyers with the victim's picture on it. i spoke to a neighbor who has a home surveillance system. he says he turned over the video to police and they will look at that to see if they can find anything that will help with the investigation. reporting live from prince george's, darcy spencer, news 4. developing tonight the world's largest ebola outbreak is claiming more lives. the world health organization says the virus killed more than 700 people across south africa since march. at least 57 have died in the past couple of days. more than half in liberia. that country has shut down schools and told government workers to stay home. security workers are going house to house to find people who may have been exposed to the virus.

fear of the spread has the cdc telling travelers not to fly to the three countries hardest hit by the outbreak. adam tuss is at dulles international airport where the warning is keeping at least one man from getting home. >> reporter: this warning is making an already tense situation pretty much more nerve racking. the man we talked to is worried about his wife, his kids, his father, his brothers. >> everybody should stay home. >> reporter: don't leave the house. >> yes. >> reporter: he is here at dulles international today but his wife, two kids, father, family and friends back home. he talked to his family last night and says the ebola crisis hit a new level of concern. >> reporter: what is this like for you? >> i'm really stressed.

it's like no handshake. they very different. it is difficult. >> reporter: even more difficult is the fact that he would like to go back home but he knows he can't. he is being told to stay away. he came here six months ago to find work. he was applying for a job at dulles today. he is trying to send money back home to his family. >> you are trapped here. >> reporter: despite the travel alert the cdc says an outbreak here is unlikely and very rare for someone to catch ebola from sitting next to someone on a plane. cdc director released this statement saying we do not anticipate this will spread in the u.s. if an infected person is hospitalized here. we are taking action by reminding workers how to isolate and test suspected patients while following strict
