>> yeah. we want to find out if more rain could spoil your outdoor plans for this saturday. storm team 4 meteorologist amelia segal has the forecast. >> good morning. we could be dealing with a shower or two today, but all in all we're looking at a mainly dry day. as we look at storm team 4 radar right now, you can see some light sprinkles leaving fredericksburg. steady rain saw in the area overnight. it's pushing out of the area. only about a 40% chance that you're dealing with rain today. and if you are, it's going to be light in nature. no thunderstorms in the forecast for your saturday. and you can see we're not really looking at anything on the map to be moving into our area. what we are having plenty of this morning, cloudy skies. and a high temperature of 69 degrees. maybe some drizzle around or an isolated shower, but plenty of

time. i'll be walking you through coming up showing you just how dry your day will be. breaking news right now from metro. transit officials saying a train hit a man in virginia. this happened around 3:30 this morning. it was between the franconiya station. we're told this should not impact trains running in the next hour. also new this morning, police working right now trying to figure out who shot a man in green belt. police took him to the hospital with life threatening injuries. this happened in prince george's county. police are trying to figure what led to the shooting. right now two americans infected with ebola are headed

to the united states. they will be the first ever to be treated for ebola in the united states. when the american patients arrive, they're going to be moved into a quarantine unit in emory hospital in atlanta. >> we have one of our four facilities in the united states capable of handling patients of this nature. >> this one of the special isolation rooms brantly and writebol will be in. one is expected to arrive later this morning. the patients will get that special hospital room once you get here. but you may be asking how are they getting here? stephanie gosk shows us the specially modified plane that is bringing them over. >> reporter: the medevac is led by the state department and the cdc. dr. brantly and writebol will be

flown separatelyn planes like this one with multiple layers of protections. the gurney will be in a secured plastic tent, the patient enclosed in another layer of plastic. and anyone in that part of the plane with hazmat suits and gloves. they will land not far from emory hospital. the facility is similar to nebraska medical center's biocontainment unit where drills like this one are regularly held. medical staff rehearse in a room equipped. doctors at emory say there's enough protection. >> i will be one of the individuals who will be coming in direct contact with the patients. i have no concerns about myself or others in that unit. >> reporter: the arrival is triggering some anger and fear like this reader's comment in the atlanta journal

constitution. it's just a bad idea, plain and simple. just down the road from the hospital we heard confidence. >> i don't have a problem as long as cdc's involved. i feel like they'll take the right precautions. >> reporter: and it may be the best chance of survival for two aid workers who went to africa to help and now need help themselves. israeli forces right now looking for a missing israeli soldier believed to have been caught by hamas. it's about 1:05 in the afternoon there. in the past few hours we've seen mostly calm skies over the area. the israeli military, however, believes hamas ambushed and abducted one of its soldiers ending a cease-fire. hamas says it is not aware of any capture. but overnight israel launched into gaza. at least 35 people have died in the overnight strikes. want to bring you up to speed on a traffic alert. if you go through route 1 in

hyattsville, crews there are repairing that stretch due to a water main break. right now it is back in service. all the customers have their water again. now, on thursday, more than 6 million gallons of water rushed down rhode island avenue. it created a massive hole. crews trying to fill that right now. may want to drive of kennelworth avenue. and another traffic alert. crews repairing a sinkhole in columbia heights. columbia road between 13th and 14th streets will be closed during the repairs. they want to avoid that area. a car stuck and flooding with the water just rising so fast. we're going to show you efforts to save a woman trapped inside. and questions of corruption and even infidelity coming out in the trial against bob mcdonnell. plus the next step in what has been a captivating case. and how

the corruption trial of former virginia governor bob mcdonnell is off for the weekend. when the trial resumes, star witness johnnie williams will take the stand for his third day of testimony. williams is under intense cross examination by the mcdonnells' defense lawyers. most recently lawyers showed williams and the mcdonnells exchanged 1200 texts and e-mails

in the last two years. bob mcdonnell spoke to reporters when he left the courtroom. >> my defense has done a great job. we'll look forward to prevailing. >> one of the digital exchanges that came out happened during the 2011 earthquake. maureen mcdonnell wrote a letter to him the earth just moved and i'm not even having sex. end quote. trial evidence has included a picture of bob mcdonnell driving in williams' ferrari and a rolex the businessman gave him. we're posting everything including a timeline of all the evidence as it comes out. for our coverage head over to nbcwashington.com and search mcdonnell. a manassas teenager tells me he's disappointed a judge didn't find him innocent of charges. simms is accused of sexting with

his girlfriend who also was a minor. they wanted to take explicit pictures of the teenager and compare them to the ones he sent at the time. they backed off pursuing that controversial search warrant. >> it's been hard these past couple months. hard on my family. hard on me. >> here's what's simms is going to have to do under that probation. 100 hours public community service. he has to stay away from his girlfriend. simms will be back in court next year when the judge could decide to dismiss the felony charges all together. new this morning, take a look at this video we got our hands on. it shows a dramatic water rescue. this happened out in the arizona area. you can see rescuers pulling a woman right there to safety. she drove into that high water last night. you can see part of her car right there submerged in that water. she wasn't hurt. this apparently is an area known for flash flooding.

emergency officials saying they are called to this area for water rescues quite often. >> water problems this time in california. faculty and staff at ucla campus checking their cars this morning hoping they still work after this huge water main break drenched them. the flooded parts of campus and garages. >> reporter: tow trucks on the west side have been quite busy. a steady stream of them dropping off the cars parked at ucla. after the water main break that flooded much of ucla. are you feeling pretty fortunate? >> very. my other car got damage, towed awhile ago. and then we got this one. it's good this one survived. >> i'm feeling better than the people who unfortunately may have got their cars ruined in the flood. but it was an amazing event to actually witness it.

>> reporter: during the flooding they moved their cars to the top of the structure and that likely saved them from damage. most lower remain stuck there. >> as we go lower we'll have more damaged cars. those will all be towed to another location. >> reporter: there was a bit of suspense. being told your car is okay and actually seeing it. >> i'm very glad. and i'm glad it's not really -- it doesn't look like it's hurt. and i'm glad they said it probably isn't. a group of thrill seekers have a different story to tell this morning after they had to walk down a roller coaster. >> yeah. this happened at a six flags in new jersey. take a look right there. it is what you are looking at. a few dozen people walking down because the ride just broke in mid-air. the coaster was on its way up to the peak height of 233 feet. a power failure caused the problem.

thankfully nobody was hurt. but it was just a few weeks ago out in california. remember there's a couple dozen that were left hanging for a few hours because a coaster at six flags hit a tree branch. and fire and rescue were able to help them. i don't know. i think i wod have just hung tight. >> they got a workout in too. >> they sure did. a lot of people wanting to go out this weekend hoping to see that sun. >> not much sun, but we aren't looking for washouts. i have to stress there's going to be plenty of dry time. if you do have plans outside, keep the rain jacket or that small umbrella handy. no severe weather in the forecast. if you have to be outside, we're not looking at chances of a storm. because of that chance of rain and drizzle today, maybe a shower or two you're dealing with and cloudy skies. the weather having a low to

welcome back. listen up. we have a consumer alert for those i don't have you who own a gm car, truck, or suv. federal regulators say the company's recall website may not list all of the cars that need recall repairs. the national highway traffic safety administration says gm's search system is incorrectly telling some owners that their cars are not involved in recalls. the agency asked gm to fix this problem. the system should show owners any recalls regardless if the parts are ready. united airlines is dealing with a bedbug problem. no bedbug has been found on the carrier planes, thank goodness. however, those pests have turned

reopen this weekend. this morning investigators want to know why a maryland state police cadet used an emergency crossover between the inner and outer loop of the beltway. that killed a teacher karen williams. >> reporter: karen holt-williams was the proud mother of five adult children, nine grand kids. her family members and neighbors are heartbroken she died. a maryland state police cadet hit her on the beltway. >> she was a nice person. i always enjoyed being around her. >> reporter: her family tells me she was driving her lincoln town car to get a teaching recertification. maryland state police cadet, 18-year-old sebastian reyes used his unmarked suv to make an

emergency cross yoover. >> the information indicates he sideswiped a 2000 lincoln. that lincoln then lost control and crashed into the jersey wall on the fast shoulder. >> reporter: medics drove karen holt-williams to the medical center where doctors pronounced her dead. a third car was involved in the crash, but none of those people were hurt. the unanswered questions, was cadet reyes authorized to make a turn from the inner loop to the outer loop? >> police do not have any authority. that's something the investigators will be looking at. >> reporter: shomari stone, news4. >> investigators interviewed the cadet and he could face charges. nba player paul george tweeted a thank you so everyone shocked by his serious leg injury. we're not going to show you that injury on air. i did see it before we came on air and it is disturbing. players covered their faces as

like i said, for the most part the clouds win out today. temperature around 70 degrees at that point. noon temperatures in the mid-70s. again some scattered showers around today. our high today 78. very similar to what we had yesterday. a few showers at 6:00 in the evening. and a temperature of 76 degrees. the nationals play tonight. i think they'll get the game in just fine. but you might want to bring the poncho there. we can't rule out a shower. for tomorrow, high temperatures will be just a little by warmer. 79 in frederick. and 81 degrees in culpepper. there will be a few showers around tomorrow, maybe an isolated thunderstorm. a little bit better chance dealing with rain tomorrow. as we head to the tropics, talking about tropical storm bertha right now, maximum sustained winds at 50 miles an hour. now, it's going to track over puerto rico where there's tropical storm warnings in effect. some areas of the island could see up to 8 inches of rain.

now, the good news about bertha, is it looks like it's going to curve back out to sea potentially becoming a category 1 hurricane very early wednesday morning. really no impact on our area, direct impact. heading to the beach this weekend, some showers at times. cede some rain on the beach, sunday maybe a thunderstorm. temperatures in the upper 70s. tomorrow low 80s for highs. monday here will be mostly cloudy. maybe an isolated shower or thunderstorm. but warmer. high temperature on monday of 87 degrees. hot and humid on tuesday. a high temperature around 90 with mostly sunny skies. tuesday looking like a great pool day for the kids. wednesday and thursday there's the chance of showers and thunderstorms. high temperatures in the mid to upper 80s. friday partly sunny skies. it's the first weekend in august, not a fabulous weekend, but it's not a bust either. >> i'm amazed we haven't been
