washington with a temperature of 73 degrees. highs today will be near 80. 78, 79 degrees will be our high. we're dry through the lunchtime hours. as we get into the afternoon hours, there will be scattered showers, very light. no thunderstorms in the forecast for today. so if you do have plans outside, keep the umbrella handy. it's not a great pool day, but whatever else you have planned should be okay. a little bit humid today. now, some areas will be seeing a little bit more sunshine than others today. i'll have more on that. also what to expect for the sunday coming up. >> thanks. we'll check in with you then. we're learning about a shooting in greenbelt. prince george's county police tell us the man who was shot died from his injuries. the shooting happened on greenbelt roa not long from the washington parkway. molette green is there this

morning. hi, molette. >> reporter: good morning. neighbors came o to find this man who was shot here in this parking lot died at the hospital. behind me you can see the dumpster where the crime scene tape is trashed. if you physical me you can see the sterile bandage kits in the street here. evidence of the attempts to save that young man's life last night. lots of police activity just after 11:00. prince george's county police this morning looking for suspects, looking for a motive here. and neighbors that i talked to say they did not hear any arguing, just a flurry of shots. >> just heard several pop pop pop. and i was hoping it was fire crackers, but i said, uh-oh, it might be shots. and it was, like, way after dark. >> reporter: now, police have not identified the victim, but

neighbors tell me the young man appeared to be in his 20s and they don't believe he lived in this apartment community. no suspect, no motive as i said before. neighbors tell me they don't believe that there is any gang or drug activity within this apartment complex, but several of them told me that there is some trouble just outside this community along the main road. there are some problems and those may have bled into this community last night. we are live in greenbelt this morning. i'm molette green, back to you. >> thanks. new this morning, a metro train hit and killed a man in northern virginia. this happened around 3:30 this morning. between the franconia-spring field and van dorn stations. no passengers were on that train. it was empty and we know that service this morning was not

impacted because of this. meanwhile, the name of the victim has not been released. right now two americans infected with ebola are headed to the united states. dr. kent brantly and nancy writebol are expected to land hours from now. they were infected with the disease while treating patients in africa. ebola includes fever, muscle, pain and vomiting. however, the americans will be in a specially isolated unit at emory university hospital which is in atlanta. >> we're one of only four institutions in the united states capable of handling patients of this nature. >> take a look. this is one of the special rooms brantly and writebol will be in. they will be the first patients ever to be treated for ebola on american soil. you may be wondering with such a dangerous disease, how are the americans getting here? especially without spreading that virus? nbc's stephanie gosk shows us the plane bringing them over. >> reporter: the medevac is a tightly controlled process led

by the state department and the cdc. dr. brantly and writebol will be flown separately on non-commercial planes like this one with multiple layers of protection to contain the virus. the gurney will be in a secured plastic tent, the patient enclosed in another layer of plastic. and anyone in that part of the plane covered head to toe in hazmat suits and gloves. they will land at the air force base not far from emory hospital. the center is close to the hazmat containment unit in nebraska. they are equipped with air filtration units. the patient is contained at all times. doctors at emory say it's enough protection. >> i will be one of the individuals who will be coming into direct contact with the patients. i have no concerns about either my personal health or the health of the other health care workers who will be working in that unit.

office building. overnight israel began its air strikes in gaza. palestinian leaders say at least 35 people di in those strikes. we have a traffic alert for you this morning. it is 9:06. if your saturday plans take you through route 1 in hyattsville, you're looking at a massive water main break. right now the water main is back in service. all the customers have water again. on thursday more than 6 million gallons of water rushed down rhode island avenue and created a massive hole that crews are trying to fill. you may want to drive on kennelworth avenue to avoid that area. another traffic alert to tell you about in the area. repairing a sinkhole in the columbia heights neighborhood. columbia road between 13th and 14th street will be closed because of these repairs. you may want to avoid the area. well, a car stuck in flooding with that water rising fast. take a look at this video. we're going to show you some

star witness johnnie williams will take the stand a third time in the bob mcdonnell corruption trial. williams is testifying under immunity for the prosecution. julie kerry says he is also facing intense cross examination. most recently lawyers showed williams and virginia's former first couple exchange 1200 texts and e-mails in two years. bob mcdonnell spoke to reporters as he left the courtroom. >> confidence in my legal team has done a great job. we look forward to having the truth continue to come out and prevailing. >> one of those digital exchanges that came out happened back during the 2011 earthquake. maureen mcdonnell wrote a note to williams that said, quote, the earth just moved and i'm not even having sex. end quote. among all the evidence is a picture of bob mcdonnell driving in williams' ferrari and the ex governor showing off a rolle ex

look at this video showing a dramatic water rescue out in arizona. you can see the rescuers there in the yellow pulling a woman to safety. she drove into the high water last night. you can see part of her car right there under the water submerged. she wasn't hurt. this area apparently is known for flash flooding. officials say they are called to water rescues in this area quite often. >> water troubles in california, students, faculty, and staff at the ucla campus are checking their cars this morning hoping they still work. after this huge water main break drenched them. flooded parts of camp talked with several drives who didn't know they'd be walking or driving home. >> reporter: tow trucks on the west side have been quite busy. a steady stream of them dropping off cars trapped in ucla. are you feeling pretty

fortunate? >> yeah. my other car got damaged awhile ago. it's good this one, like, survived. >> i'm feeling better than the people who unfortunately may have gotten their cars ruined in the flood. but it was an amazing event to actually witness it. >> reporter: during the flooding they moved their cars from the bottom of the parking structure to the top. that likely spared the cars from damage. those at the lower level remain stuck there most of them inoperable. >> we'll have a lot more damaged cars numbering about 400. they'll all be towed to another location. >> reporter: there was a bit of suspense. the difference between being told your car is okay and actually seeing it. >> i'm very glad. and i'm glad that it's not really -- it doesn't look like it's hurt. i'm glad they said it probably isn't. so that's great. well, a group of thrill seekers have quite the story to tell this morning after they had to walk down a roller coaster. >> yeah.

you read that right, you heard him right. walk down a roller coaster. this happened at six flags in new jersey. take a look at this video. few dozen people there marching down the track. this is because the ride broke in mid-air. the coaster was on its way up to the peak height of 230 feet. a power failure caused this problem. thankfully nobody was hurt. what they had happen here, park officials actually got up there and escorted them down so they didn't just start doing this on their own. still, it's crazy. >> i'm not going anywhere. i'm not walking down there. >> i'm staying in the spinning teacups. close tore the ground. >> as you're riding in a roller coaster and it's picking you up, you think i hope i never have to walk down those. being seated is one thing. >> big thrill seekers. it stopped right before the peak and it was supposed to drop. so they missed the big rush. they got stuck up there for hours. moving onto weather, i saw

you tweaking the forecast. >> so improving the forecast for today. we're seeing a little bit more sunshine. partly to mostly cloudy skies. i've also lowered your shower chance to a 30% chance. so most of your day will be mainly dry. we're dry through the lunchtime hours. but because of that threat that you're dealing with, a light shower this afternoon or evening. the weather could have a low impact on your day. more clouds around the d.c. metro area than areas back to the west. so a little bit more sunshine there. here on storm team 4 radar, it's dry right now. again, it's going to be mainly dry until about 1:00, 2:00 p.m. after that we'll see light showers. no thunderstorms are in the forecast for today. here's a look at the satellite and radar. you can see we are getting in on sunshine. that's going to help our temperatures to warm to around 80 degrees. with future weather, notice it's

well, listen up. we have a consumer alert for those of you who own a gm car, truck, or suv. federal regulators and general motors say the company's recall site may not list all of the cars that need recall repairs. the national highway traffic safety administration says gm's search system is incorrectly telling some owners that their cars are not involved in recalls if parts for the repairs aren't ready. the agency asked gm to fix that problem. they said it should show owners any recalls regardless if the parts are ready or not. so united airlines dealing

cherrystone campground. the couple's 13-year-old son was among those hurt. crews are cleaning up the campground so it can reopen this weekend. investigators want to know why a police cadet used a median to go from inner loop to outer loop causing a crash killing a maryland teacher karen holt-williams. >> reporter: karen holt-williams was the proud mother of five adult children, four grand kids. her family and friends are devastated she died. >> she was a nice person. i always enjoyed being around her. >> reporter: her family tells me she was driving her lincoln town car to get a teaching recertification. police say 18-year-old sebastian reyes used his unmarked suv

without lights or sirens activated to make a u-turn in an emergency cross yoover. >> the investigation indicates he sideswiped a 2000 lincoln driven by a prince george's county woman. that lincoln then lost control and crashed into the jersey wall on the fast shoulder. >> reporter: medics drove karen holt-williams to the medical center where doctors pronounced her dead. a third car was involved in the crash. none of the three people in that car got hurt. the unanswered question, was ka debt reyes authorized to make the turn? >> that's something we will be looking at. >> investigators interviewed him and he could face charges. right now a lot of you are online talking about paul

showing across the area. so partly to mostly cloudy skies as we work our way through our saturday. here's what you can expect through sunday. a few showers, a chance of a thunderstorm, a little bit better chance that you're dealing with rain for tomorrow on your sunday. overall the clouds went out this weekend. more clouds than sunshine. and it's not going to be too hot, but it will be a little bit humid. high temperatures today and tomorrow around that 80-degree mark. typically our high, 88 degrees. the first in august is oak. it's not going to be spectacular weather, but it's not going to be a washout. temperatures already in the 70s. 73 for those of you in washington. and here's a look at the high temperature in your neighborhood for today. 75 for a high in annapolis. 77 degrees back in petersburg. a little bit more sunshine for areas to the west of washington.

areas like petersburg, frederick, and louden county. for your planner tomorrow, 7:00 a.m. starting off your sunday, plenty of clouds. the chance of a shower. temperature around 70 degrees. but we should be mainly dry through the midday hours tomorrow. as we get into the afternoon hours tomorrow, some scattered showers, the chance of a thunderstorm. no severe weather, though, is in the forecast for tomorrow. a high temperature of 81 degrees. as we talk about tropical storm bertha right now, maximum sustained winds at 50 miles an hour. it's moving at about 22 miles an hour at this point. we are looking at tropical storm warnings for puerto rico. the good news about this storm system as we work our way throughout the next few days is expected to curve back out to sea, really not impacting our weather here. it could potentially strengthen to a category 1 hurricane. that would be on early in the day on wednesday. so we'll continue to monitor that forecast.

again, sunday tomorrow, high of 81. we're looking at mostly cloudy skies tomorrow with some scattered showers and thunderstorms around mainly during the afternoon hours. notice today only about a 30% chance you're dealing with a shower. that percentage is higher tomorrow. monday mostly cloudy, a high temperature of 87. of course the nationals at home not only today but tomorrow and monday as well. now, the game should be just fine today and monday. you could be dealing with a bit of rain if you're heading to the game tomorrow afternoon. here on tuesday, a high of 90 degrees with plenty of sunshine. you're going to notice the humidity but as we get into early august, again it's nice to have that typical summer day across the area. for wednesday and thursday there's the chance of some thunderstorms. high temperatures in the mid to upper 80s. next friday partly sunny and a high temperature of 89 degrees. i cannot believe it's already august. july is gone. this is the first weekend in
