us the damage. >> reporter: we can now tell you that this horrific accident here in the 1400 block of h street has now turned deadly. police have confirmed that with us just moments ago. you can see the mangled gray nissan there in the middle of the street. the accident investigation continu continues. police still trying to piece together just what happened. this was a single car accident. the driver taken away just after 3:30 this morning. witnesses tell me this driver are was coming down h street at a very high rate of speed and hit a pole. went airborne. the car landed and exploded.

you can see the car there burned and crumbled. florida avenue also closed now. a witness told molette green this car went airborne and exploded. she's sending in that interview to us. we'll have that for you in about 15 minutes. plus we expect to see rain and maybe even some thunderstorms this afternoon. we'll get to tom to show us when they will arrive and melissa on the breaking news in your weather and traffic on the 1s at 6:21. right now, though, the cease fire brokered between israel and hamas is holding in the middle east. it's been a little more than 24 hours now. israel has pulled its forces out of gaza. israel and hamas have delegations in egypt ready to negotiate a long term truce. the cease fire is the longest lull in the war that has killed nearly 1900estinians and 70

israels. a spanish priest has tested positive for ebola. a special plane will be sent to bring that priest back to spain. and airlines are on high alert looking for patients who show symptoms. yesterday a second ebola infected american arrived in atlanta to be treated. new this morning, a flight on its way to brussels had to make an emergency landing early this morning after a fire on board. the united airlines flight landed in halifax. an airport spokesperson says the fire was contained and had already been extinguished during the flight. the plane had 233 people on board. no one was injured. a vigil today will honor a woodbridge teen who was supposed to start his senior year of high school. daniel anders died from a suspected drug overdose following a concert in may lary.

he was at a music festival. police believe they overdosed on ecstasy. a candlelight vigil scheduled for 7:00 tonight at hilton high school in woodbridge. ten months after a shooting rampage at the washington navy yard, the chairman of the base's police union tells the news 4 iteam the local navy police force is yupd staffed. in tony mealy says just one officer at a time is patrolling the navy yard and there are 40 fewer officers than they should be and a similar shortage slowed the response to the shooting in september. >> is the washington navy yard as vulnerable to attack now as it was september 16? >> yes, sir. we haven't really made any corrections. as we know, what is sad is we have an example at ft. hood that it can happen again. naval officials say they are

trying to recruit and hire more officers. but they say they are meeting all security requirements. one of the bus drivers involved in a crash in times square has been arrested. police say the driver may have been under the influence of prescription drugs. the doububouble-decker buses cod yesterday, but it was actually a light pole that toppled caused most of the injuries. everyone is expected to be okay. new this morning, a warning about these types of car key fobs. the keyless entry feature on newer cars lets drivers unlock their cars with the click of a button. apparently thieves are using high radio frequency scanners to break into cars. the national insurance crime bureau recommends take you a few extra steps. first always lock your car no matter where it is. never leave the windows or sun roof open either.

encounters patchy dense fog for the next couple of hours. watch out for deer around, as well. visibilities are down. latest around the metro area are fine. but denser fog in frederick. that will be around for a couple hours. showers in western pennsylvania, not storms, just a few showers. some of those showers v s shenah valley around 10:00 and then western suburbs around noon. later in the day likely getting storms moving in. look at that orange sun pulling up out of the summer haze. later today, that sun will be cooking us. we'll be up around 90 by midafternoon with those afternoon thunderstorms coming through. only a small chance the storms . tomorrow a wonderful change. sun any, low humidity, highs reaching the mid-80s.

you will want to take time and change some of your passwords this morning. thieves have more than 1 billion year names for more than 420,000 different websites. the new york sometimes says russian hackers are to blame for the latest security heist. a milwaukee security firm uncovered the breach. it's not clear what specific sites were broken into. and if you think your mail delivery could be better, today there a round table to talk about just that. eleanor holmes norton will host the meeting. you're welcome to attend. she says she's heard your concerns about customer service and stolen mail. she also wants to talk about the safety of mail carriers across our region. we know firefighters get all sorts of calls, but it's not too often that they get a call to remove a massive beehive in the middle of the street. take a look. this was will arlington, tooegs. firefighters were called after a lawn care crew uncovered the hive in somebody's yard. the fire crew really didn't know

we're following breaking news. a bad crash has three blocks of h street shut down. this is a live look as police take a look at the vehicle. car parts scattered all across the road. >> we have live team coverage. we start with molette green. i know you just talked to some eyewitnesses there. >> reporter: absolutely. and police have confirmed that the driver of there gray nissan has died. taken to the hospital just after the crash. look at the car put as strewn all over the place. you can see the lights, wheels, tags, everything. this car is mangled and charred from what one witness tells me an explosive car crash.

taking his own life. today's vigil will be held at saint stevens ban it teptist wh family attended church. and you are fed up with washington. take a look at the results of a new nbc news/"wall street journal" poll. president obama's approval rating is at a new low of 40% this morning. the approval rating of congress just 14%. tracie potts live on capitol hill now with more on this latest survey. >> reporter: good morning. the dissatisfaction we saw in the poll pretty even among democrats and republicans, independents, men and women. people just fed up with washington. almost two-thirds say they are dissatisfied with the economy, 7 out of 10 say this country is headed in the wrong direction. almost 8 in 10 are dissatisfied with the political system. and a lotof this seems to be coming from personal situations. two thirds say they are still feeling the pinch of the recess. almost half think we're still in

murder case in montgomery county. jurors will go back into the deliberations in the case of david goldberg. he's charged with stabbing a couple after an incident last november at montgomery mall. jurors met for 14 hours yesterday, 12 hours on monday. prosecutors say goldberg stabbed the couple. his lawyers say he and cted in self-defense. you'll have two chances to speak out about possible chances on your water bill, they want to raise the account maintenance fee. wssc says the proposal aims to lower future rate increases. the first public meeting will be at 7:30 tonight in rockville, the second is next tuesday in largo. amazon is expanding same day delivery to six more cities including d.c. and baltimore. you can order as late as noon as get things delivered the same

money for the speed camera on east capitol street. it stands in maryland, but the camera gives tickets in the district. d.c. police disabled the speed camera yesterday and placed a portable one inside city lines. aaa says every driver who was ticketed at that location should be refunded. d.c. says it might have to start cracking down on the so-called love locks popping up. these locks became popular in paris. lovers had been snapping these padlocks with names on them on to a famous bridge there. so many took part, that part of the bridge collapsed. so right now there are 48 locks on the key bridge. 22 others on a fence near e and second street. >> and according to the "washington post" o inose dmv will cut down the locks if they threaten safety in any way p. the sentiment is nice.

guttierez. >> reporter: sergeant bowe bergdahl scheduled to be questioning formally regarding his disappearance in afghanistan. he spent part of the day yesterday with his attorney going over classified documents related to the initial investigation into the 2009 pea. for week bergdahl has been on rely duty at a desk job. his attorney says it's been a smooth transition for him but he's anxious to share his side of the story with the army and he's looking forward to the investigation to be over so he can go to college. several former platoon mates sayburg say bergdahl abandoned his post. you'll hear more coming up later on "today". military officials still don't believe that bergdahl has met with his part sparents, though o say for sure because he is allowed to move freely off the

base. burg doergdahl he's attorney ha commented. after today's round of questioning, the investigating general will make his recommendation to a court marshall convening authority about whether bergdahl should be charged. back to you. >> we'll see your full report on the "today" show. following breaking news there germantown. montgomery firefighters are investigating what they suspect is an arson case and possibly the attempt to set some other vehicles on fire. there was one car that was set on fire, this was this germantown and then it appears that other cars in the neighborhood area also tampered with. seems like someone was trying to set the other vehicles on fire. we're hearing reports just minimal damage and no one was

hurt. that's the latest from the live desk. new this morning, someone forced their way into a home in capitol heights. prince george's county police are working to find what was taken from the home. it happened on 58th avenue just outside of the d.c. line. we expect to learn more about the incident later this morning. developing right now in the pacific, two hurricanes headed for hawaii. chuck bell joins us with more on this. >> we're still tracking two new storms all the way across the u.s., all the way out into the far central parts of the pacific ocean. there are two hurricanes now, both of these storms iselle and julio, aiming right at hawaii here. the first one they need to worry about is iselle. most likely going to make a direct hit on the big islands of hawaii late thursday night into early friday morning. fortunately the hurricane center expects that to be a tropical storm of landfall. so no longer a hurricane. it is showing signs of

weakening. as soon as iselle moves out, julio has eyes on hawaii, as well. this storm appears to be making a right hand turn and should stay on the north shore of hawaii. that will be arriving saturday simil saturday/sunday time frame. we'll keep a close eye on these. if you have travel plans to or from hawaii in the next couple days, that could be impacted. it's 6:49. as the hurricanes grow closer to landfall, al roker will track their progress and have more on hurricane bertha and its target on the atlantic coast. and the city of falls church is remembering an army major general killed in afghanistan. 55-year-old harold greene served in the army for 34 years. he is the highest ranking army general killed overseas since the vietnam war. flags are out in greene's falls church neighborhood this morning. neighbors showing support for the general's family. milg taker officials say the

fact greene was not participating in combat made the loss especially difficult. gra greene was killed by a lone gunman. more than on dozen other soldiers were injured before the gunman was killed. a new hotel and conference center at the university of maryland could soon be a reality. according for the "washington post," officials strongly support the project and promised a fast approval process and the hotel could open in the fall of 2016. the hotel will be built across the street from the university's main entrance. university president hopes it will attraction academic conferences and fans for ter te events. and we could get a look at the iphone 6. >> reportedly unveiling it september 9, so likely in stores about two weeks latter and expect the camp
