it seemed like two hours to me. >> traffic camera turned off after reports it was on the wrong side of the d.c. line. tonight, we'll report about another camera on the maryland border. and uber testing a new service. we'll tell you how the company says it will save you nearly half the cost of your ride. >> news 4 at 11:00 starts now. >> now in arlington, virginia, a deadly accident at a home under construction. police say a crew was removing trees from the property when a worker was killed. jackie benson is in that neighborhood with more. jackie? >> neighbors heard a loud thud then yelling that indicated something had gone terribly wrong. it was nightfall before police completed their investigation into the sudden and terrible accident that claimed the life of the driver of the log transport truck. the logs were being removed from the grounds of the home in the 4800 block next to washington

country club. several very large trees on the property had been cleared as part of what appears to be a major renovation. >> we noticed they started taking the trees down. and oh, there's a house there. they've taken some big trees off those lots. >> a massive log had just been loaded on the truck when it happened. >> an adult male was crushed bay large tree trunk after he was attempting to secure it to the back after flat bed truck. that rolled off, ultimately crushing him. >> workers quickly attempted to free the victim, using construction equipment but they were unable it save him. an inspector from occupational safety and health administration, known as osha, also came to the scene. the truck is owned by a company in virginia. the name of the driver killed has not been released. >> thanks, jackie. new at 11:00, another bat sell brewing over a d.c. speed camera on the maryland border. this one is on southern avenue

metro station. the viewer asked us to check it out. it looks like the camera is on the maryland side of southern avenue but d.c. police insist it is not. they tell us the camera is legal right where it is. yesterday, we reported how officers removed a camera installed on east capital street. they set up a mobile camera but on the d.c. side of the state line. tonight, family and friends held a memorial for 17-year-old daniel anders. they did that in woodbridge, virginia. anders was about to begin his senior year of high school but he died suddenly after he attended a concert over the weekend. police believe the drug molly, a pure form of ecstasy, was being passed around. >> it's just this generation, i know that there is just a lost people who want it live in the moment kind of thing. and it is just like they don't really think about, you know, what kind of consequences it can bring to them.

>> experts say the usage of molly is highest in the summer and say it is most often ingested at concerts and big parties. >> we learned the name of a man killed in a violent crash early this morning. police say 24-year-old maurice kirkland of northwest d.c. was killed when he lost control of his car, about 4:00 this morning. the car hit a pole on h street northeast, then slam nomed into truck. the man died at the hospital. investigators are still trying to figure out how it all happened. >> bank of america has been hit hard for its price and contributing to the financial met down in 2008 will. that bank agreed to pay the justice department nearly $17 billion. that would be the largest settlement by far on the economic crisis. investigation dealt with the sale of mortgage backed security but the deal is not quite yet final. outside tonight, more showers across the area. not everywhere. doug's got the latest.

what are we looking at, doug? >> most showers coming to an end. a very nice night across our region right now. let's look and show you what is happening with the radar. in the last six hours, you can see the storms making their way in across the area. in the last couple of hours, down around fredericksburg and back towards the west. not done quite yet. we can still see a few showers but that is really going to be about it. i'm not expecting much tonight. behind this air mass, nice conditions on thursday and most likely on friday. then we gent to the weekend. a system that could affect you, especially towards the beaches. and two hurricanes heading towards hawaii. >> thanks, doug. >> president of liberia declared a state of emergency in that country because of the continued spread of ebola. that virus killed more than 900 people in west africa since the outbreak began. in the u.s. tonight, there are growing questions about the best way to fight it.

>> at the end of a three-day summit african leaders, president obama was asked if the u.s. was considering sending an experimental unproven drug to west africa to help fight the outbreak of ebola. >> we have to let the science guide us. i don't think all of the information is in. >> the treatment is called zmap. it was given to nancy writebol and dr. kent brantly before and after they were moved from liberia to emory university hospital in atlanta. while their conditions have improved, scientist say there's no way to tell whether the drug is the reason for that improvement. the president says ebola is containable with improved public health. >> it is important to remind ourselves, this is not an airborne disease. this is one that can be controlled and contained very effectively, if we use the right

protocols. >> today the centers for disease control moved its emergency operation center to level one activation. that is the highest level. it means hundreds more people at the cdc are now focused on ebola. scientist at nih have been working on an ebola vaccine for more than a decade now. if the vaccine proves safe, it could be available to health care workers late next year. in the meantime, dr. anthony of nih says the likelihood of an outbreak in the u.s. remains very low. >> getting a patient here that happens to get off the plane and develop ebola is not out of the question at all. it is how it's handled that the issue. and we have the capability of handling it in a way that will not allow an outbreak. >> tonight, the body after u.s. army major general who was killed in afghanistan is being flown back to the u.s. the body of major general harold

green will arrive at dover air force base tomorrow morning. in the meantime, in afghanistan, there has been yet another insider attack. an afghan police officer shot and killed seven of his fellow officer at a checkpoint. defense secretary chuck hagel says despite recent attacks, the u.s. will not change its plans to withdraw combat troops at the end of the year. tonight, victims in a violent road rage attack that mall say they just want to get back to their lives. a jury convicted 24-year-old david goldburg of attempted voluntary manslaughter and assault. prosecutors say he tried to run over a couple at west field montgomery mall, then he stabbed them. this happened last november. he could be sentenced to 165 years in prison when that sentencing occurs in december. goldburg claimed he acted in self-defense. his 2-year-old daughter was in the car at the time. the victims have recovered from

their wounds. the largest internet breach in history, over a billion pass word stolen by hackers in russia. but that's not all they could get their hand on. nbc justice correspondent pete williams explains what's at risk. >> the disclosure of the huge internet security breach, biggest yet, is the hallway buzz at the hacker convention in las vegas. a russian gang acquired 1.2 billion records, a kbie combination of user names and pass words. a.j. alex holden found the information and found his own informs in it. >> if the bad guys turn the massive breach against the financial institution, social media, e-mail accounts, or anything else that they can mon

idea that could save you money. if you're willing to share. it is called uber pool. it will link you up with another rider going your way. right now, the app is being tested in san francisco. you put in your location and where you want to go and then uber pool can give you to someone traveling a similar route. you could split the ride to save money, if you want. uber has no date yet on when or whether that service might come to d.c. >> uber and the ride share company, lift, have approval to operate in virginia. state officials had issued a cease and desist order. a temporary agreement will help ensure passengers safety and make sure there is a level playing field with taxi drivers. uber and lift drivers will now have to get background checks and meet strict insurance requirements. they are still trying to work out a long term deal. >> coming up tonight, a violent crash. trapped a man for nearly an

as he was pulled to safety. tonight, the man said he thought he was going to die. >> i thank god that i'm alive. >> reporter: james fisher said he is fortunate to see another day. >> there is a god. >> reporter: he was doing his security job inside a temple hills apartment complex booth around two weeks ago when this van crashed into it, pinning him underneath for about 45 minutes. >> when you were trapped under there, did you think you were going to die? >> yes, i do. >> reporter: fisher decided to tell me his story only on news 4. he saw the van speeding towards him. >> going maybe 50 miles an hour. >> reporter: wow. >> yeah. there was nothing i could do to defend myself except stand there. >> reporter: it pushed him into the back of the booth. he was pinned to the mini van and he said that oil was falling

on his face. officer spoke to fisher while they found a way to safely rescue him. firefighters pulled him out with pain in his thigh and lower back. no broken bones. a crowd cheered. describe your emotions when you found the residents clapping for you. >> it's out of sight, man. i didn't know that many people cared about me. >> reporter: police questioned the driver. the crash is still under investigation. meanwhile, fisher hired attorney andrew betterman. >> he's suffered an injury as a result of the negligence of someone else. he is getting medical care and hopefully getting better. repo >> reporter: as for fisher, he wants the pain to go away. >> i have to get back to where i was, which is healthy. >> perhaps a game-changer for shoppers. no more driving to the store. now you can shop on-line and have your purchase delivered to your door the same way. amazon.com just expanded the same-day delivery service to the

d.c. metropolitan area. all you have to do is make your purchase on select items by noon. shipping the be $9.99 for the first purchase and 99 cents for each delivery after that. amazon prime members get themselves a discount. boy, they are about to get slammed in hawaii. preparations are under way for not one, but two hurricanes, headed straight for the hawaiian island. a category 1 storm right now, slated to make land fall tomorrow night. but then there's hurricane julio expected to land on the island on sunday. this is extremely rare out there. hawaii has not seen a hurricane or tropical storm since 1992. that is very odd to get not one, but two, in a couple of days. >> yeah. they've seen tropical storm pass by the island and they have been affected by those, pretty much one or two every year. but this may affect the big

island. it may come directly on shore. the last one was hurricane nikki in 1992 causing a lot of damage. this isn't as strong as that one. that's good news. but it's going to be a big deal. first off, i want to go to it and show you what it is like towards oahu. nice evening there. they are about six hours behind us, i believe. looking at a nice evening out there now. they are watching just off to the east as those two hurricanes are making their way, take a look at it, there they are. there's the cell and there's julio. very strong hurricane. now a category 1. even a strong category 1, it is expected to potentially weaken to a tropical storm. but it doesn't matter. 70, 75, 80 mile-an-hour wind. and expecting up towards 100 mile-an-hour gust. very high mountains here. volcanos, 13,000 feet. easily see those. julio just behind it in a couple of days.

that tracking further north so the direct impact really looks like it is coming from the first storm. this is something well talk about for the next couple of days. around our area, beautiful night. wind out of the northwest at 7 miles per hour. we have nice weather moving in across our region over the next couple of days. 70 in leesburg. 66 in gathersburg. this is all just ground clutter coming in. ground showers you have seen, not really falling apart. your computer forecast for tomorrow morning, 6 okay to 9:00 a.m. dry pavement. temperatures around 66. tomorrow afternoon, no problems there either. both your commute in and back home fantastic. less humidity, high temperatures around 66 degrees tomorrow afternoon. looking at a pretty good thursday. there's t boundary, you will see exactly what i'm talking about. that front through the region. back towards chicago. bringing in dryer air.

tomorrow, very low humidity. then we turn our attention to this guy. back west of st. louis. that could effect our weekend. nothing tomorrow, plenty of sunshine. friday more of the same. high pressure is going to be the key. because we do have an area of low pressure that's making its way our way. if it is able to benefit the high pressure, we could see showers as far north as fredericksburg. right now, i think we are looking good. most of us will stay dry including beaches. even though as we have easterly wind. 86 on thursday. redskins game looking great. 85 on friday. 83 saturday. 30% of showers but that's all down south. 84 sunday. dry weekend for most of us. as we start next week, temperatures in low to mid 80s. we continue to be below average for the most part as we head into the next seven days. only day above is next wednesday. temperature is 88 degrees. nobody is sitting here.
