>> they have about 20 passengers stuck on one of the rides. >> you are kidding, right? >> some people called 911. others snapped pictures of a dramatic rescue. why crews knew exactly what to do after a scare on a roller coaster at six flags. first, to breaking news in gaithersburg. here is scott macfarlane at the live desk. >> that's chopper 4 near the intersection of woodfield and field crest in gaithersburg. two cars and a ride-on bus have been involved in an accident. at least six people injured. there's no word on what caused the crash. the six injuries are not significant. they are being checked out by paramedics and traffic is being slowed down as police block most of the roadway and investigate what happened. jackie bensen just arrived at the scene and is gathering information. the update in a minute and at www.nbcwashington.com. at the live desk, i'm scott macfarlane. >> we go now to a story that

just rips your heart out. it's about a 3-year-old and she was killed with a bullet that was meant for somebody else. >> police say she was killed by a young man with a really silly fight and a gun. and they really want to find him and so does the child's grandmother who is inclined neither toward forgiveness or mercy. >> reporter: i had the opportunity to spend time with the family when they brought out the pictures of this little girl, your heart melted. she was so beautiful, so fun loving. this family is so heart broken. she was shot and killed in the upper stories here of this house. we can still see the bullet holes in the siding. a ladder is there because a work crew showed up to repair the damage. several years ago, crime cameras were installed in this neighborhood. some neighbors are concerned

because the cameras are no longer working. cameras in the neighborhood where this 3-year-old was shot and killed. one is right across the street from the house. not one of them works. prince george's county police say they were installed as part of a pilot program in 2007. the funding dried up. the cameras stopped working at least two years ago. >> there is a stationary camera placed on the terrace, but it's not functioning. >> reporter: some are angry they didn't know the cameras weren't working. police did not need surveillance video to solve the crime. they immediately identified the shooter. they have been looking for him ever sense. >> i hope he burns in hell. he needs to turn himself in. >> reporter: the grandmother of this 3-year-old can't believe she is gone. this precious little girl was

playing upstairs at her cousin's house when a gunman sprayed the house with bullets. we counted half a dozen holes in the siding and under the window sill. >> she was so loving. so happy. a little girl, everybody loves her. >> reporter: police say the suspect was dating someone who lives in the house and believed an acquaintance was wearing his clothes. the two fought. wallace returned with a gun. he shot at the house where he believed the intended target had gone. >> assuming his intended target was the young man he had the fight with, we do not believe the young man was in the house at the time the shooting occurred. >> this is the man who pulled the trigger. he is 25 years old and has a criminal record. >> messed with my little cousin. i love her dearly. i hope justice will be served. >> reporter: prince george's county police tell me they have no plans to restart this

surveillance system program here. it's outdated technology and would not be worth the money. reporting live from landover, darcy spencer, news 4. now to the cry for justice in missouri. protesters there demanding answers in the unarmed shooting death of a black teenager. there has been another rally in ferguson, one day after a violent protest over the police shooting of michael brown. the 18-year-old was supposed to start college today. tonight, his death prompted an fbi investigation. jay gray is just outside st. louis with the latest. hi, jay. >> reporter: hey, there, erika. great to talk to you. this is one of the areas that saw the worst in the violence looting. take a look behind me. there are a line of businesses cleaned up and now boarded up after the violent blast. tension so high. protesters have been here basically since the time of the deadly shooting. they say they are going to stay and keep up the pressure until

they find out how and why this happened. >> hands up. >> don't shoot. >> reporter: ferguson, missouri continues to be a city on edge. for the second straight day, protesters filled the streets of this suburban st. louis community demanding answers and action after michael brown, an unarmed teenager was shot and killed during a weekend confrontation with police. >> he's running this way. he turns his body toward this way, hands in the air, being compliant. he gets shot in the face and chest. >> reporter: a vigil for the 18-year-old turned violent overnight. protesters turning their frustration on downtown businesses, lighting fires, looting and shattering windows, much of it caught on security cameras. today, city leaders urge protesters to stay calm and punish justice as the investigation and concern of what comes next continues. >> i have enough confidence in our community. i have lived my whole life here.

i am planning for worst case. >> reporter: police said very little publicly about the deadly confrontation that started inside an officer's vehicle, then spilled out into the street where brown was shot multiple times. >> you are not god. you don't decide when you are going to take somebody from her. that was mine. that belonged to me. >> reporter: now, brown's memory belongs to an angry, grieving community, that can't understd why he'son this afternoon, michael brown's parents called for calm here as the investigation moves forward. an investigation that includes the justice department and the fbi. live outside st. louis, i'm jay gray, news 4. >> thanks, jay. president obama says progress is being made in iraq. an hour ago, he said they are helping kurdish fighters gain ground against the extremists. he said humanitarian efforts are

stormy conditions. a one-time relative of bob mcdonnell on the stand as the corruption case begins the third week. they question his former brother-in-law about financial trouble with the governor's real estate investments. julie carey is live with more. good to see you. >> reporter: hi, there. well, another mcdonnell family member on the stand. he is not technically in the family anymore, he looked just as uncomfortable as the others testifying about jonnie williams and the checks he wrote. his former brother-in-law used to be married to bob mcdonnell's sister. they own two beach houses and had a real estate company. he kept crack of finances for the beach property, but they were losing up to $60,000 a year. >> do you think anybody did anything wrong here?

>> reporter: enter jonnie williams. twice he was on the phone with maureen mcdonnell when she put williams on the line to talk about the beach places. williams wrote two checks to help with the red ink. one for $50,000, another for $20,000. they tried to counter they turned to him. he testified his right, the mobile partner made $100,000 that year. they changed to anatabloc. they were at a march 2012 meet thag ended with aun unusual display, one that must have resembled this photo. governor mcdonnell pulled a bottle of anatabloc out of his pocket. the women take opposite views of what the governor intended. i have no idea why he pulled it out. there was no ask. it was personal.

her boss, lisa hicks thomas remembers it differently. her version of events is more beneficial to prosecutors. it would be good for state employees and asked us if we would meet with them. her testimony demonstrates he was trying to help williams and the company anatabloc in exchange for the $165,000 in gifts, trips and loans the businessman gave the family. the last witness of the day, former virginia attorney general, jerry kilgore. he's now a lobbyist. williams hired him to try to get state assistance. he testified that williams assured him he already had the governor's support. reporting live from richmond, virginia, julie carey, news 4. >> thank you. marquel ross was walking to central high school, but never made it that day because somebody shot him, killed him.

a man named bennett was arrested, tried and today, found guilty of that murder. it happened in capitol heights, maryland. tracee wilkins, today, spoke with ross' mother, minutes after the verdict was read. >> every time you got a person walk like that, they think they are beating the system. i'm glad to get justice. >> he'll be sentenced in october. he's facing life without parole plus five years. he was one of six prince george's county high school kids killed in the 2012-2013 school year. they were all shot. amber was killed in her home. elliott was in lewisdale when he was killed. marcus jones was in fort washington, charles walker around aaron. police made arrests in four of the cases. there have been no arrests in
