i'll show you what happened and give you the latest on the investigation coming up. get ready, you are going to have to plan ahead for tomorw. rain and storms on the way. storm team 4 is timing i.t. all out for you tonight. shock and sadness tonight at the news that the man who made us laugh for so many years has died. >> robin williams was found dead a few hours ago. tonight, there is still a lot of questions even as we look back. nbc's stephanie stanton has the latest. >> reporter: the death of robin williams left his family, friends and a generation of fans across the world in shock. >> we lost a great, great person today. >> reporter: williams was found dead at his home north of san francisco today. an investigation into the cause of death is currently under way, although the county coroner's office's preliminary report

points to asphyxia. according to his publicist, williams had been suffering from depression for several weeks. he first captured america's attention on the sit-com "mork and mindy". >> good morning, vietnam! >> reporter: and his comic mania carried into movies playing a wartime deejay in "good morning, vietnam" brought him a golden globe. so did the role he played in "mrs. doubtfire." williams' style in his one-man shows and many talk show appearances endeared him to audiences and made him a favorite vocal talent for such animated films as "happy feet." but the juilliard-trained actor was also in "dead poets society" and "good will hunting."

the actor's wife released a statement saying, quote, as he is remembered, it is our hope the focus will not be on robin's death, but on the countless moments of joy and laughter he gave to millions. a gifted actor and comic genius whose sudden passing leaves those who knew him and those who watched him heartbroken. in 2009, robin williams underwent heart surgery but has made a full recovery. it appears he'd been working on several movies at the time of his death, including a possible remake of the '80s hit "mrs. doubtfire." robin williams is survived by his wife and three children. >> one of robin williams' most famous roles is based on a true story that had its originals right here in the bay area. patch adams was a doctor -- >> i'll be your surgeon. oh, there you are. >> reporter: the real patch adams grew up in arlington,

and was dating someone who lives in the house. he accused someone of wearing his clothes, got in an argument, walked away and allegedly returned with a gun. >> he came back with a gun and i was the one who seen him out the window running towards the house with the gun. >> reporter: seconds later, police say davon wallace fired several shots into the ho. take a look. her aunt allowed me to show you the room before she was hit. i counted six gunshot holes. she died at a hospital. tonight, wallace is still on the run and the toddler's grandmother hopes police catch him. >> i hope he burns in hell because he took a child's life. >> reporter: while the manhunt continues, a memorial pays tribute to the precious 3-year-old. tonight her mother has a message for the suspected killer -- >> turn yourself in. i can never see my baby again thanks to you.

from the alexandria police department. officers say some people are receiving calls that show up on the caller id as the city's non-emergency phone number. it comes up at 703-746-4444. the caller then demands money for court or traffic fines and threatens arrest if payment isn't made. police say officers never demand money and that you should hang up the phone as soon as you get one of these calls. we now know that seven people were injured when a bus collided with two cars at a busy intersectiotoy. it happened at the height of rush hour at woodfield and fieldcrest roads in gaithersburg. an suv t-boned a bus at that intersection. you can see the damage from tha impact. five people on the bus, two from the other cars involved were taken to hospitals. they're all expectedbe these are the characterize of angry protesters for the

second straight day. they filled the streets of ferguson, missouri, demanding answers after police shot and killed an unarmed teenager. investigators say that young man, 18-year-old michael brown, got into a physical confrontation with a police officer inside a squad car. and that is when shots were fired. he was supposed to start college today. instead, his parents are in mourning. >> that was my firstborn son. >> he was a good boy. didn't deserve none of this. none of it. we need justice for our son. >> michael's parents are calling for an end to the violence in that area. during a vigil for their son last night, protesters lit fires, looted stores. the fbi now investigating and have promised justice. right now, a cease-fire

between israel and hamas appears to be holding nearly 24 hours after it began. it's supposed to be a 72-hour pause in the violence in gaza. to allow humanitarian aid int that area. it will also allow egypt to open indirect talks between israel and hamas in an effort to work out a more lasting truce. nearly 2,000 palestinians and 67 israelis have died in the month-long fighting. most of those killed were civilians. conflicting testimony today on how the governor supported a dietary supplement. this photograph of the governor with anatabloc was on the star scientific website. he pulled out a bottle during a meeting with state official a top aide claims he just mentioned it had helped m. and that she didn't think he had been asked to promote it. but the secretary of

incredible video tonight of a stroller getting sucked right onto some subway tracks. watch this. this happened last month in lond london. as a train leaves the station, the stroller with a child in it gets pulled onto the tracks. a man left the child in the stroller at the bottom of a stairs to go up and grab some luggage. a woman who saw the stroller jumped onto the tracks to sav the chil police released the video today

in hopes of finding the good samaritan and to make sure that the babwa'tnjed. metro hasn't said what caused part of the ceiling to fall at metro center. a ceiling tile came loose on the lower level and several other tiles had to be removed. this happened after rush hour this mornin nobody was injured. metro is issuing a warning tonight to be on the lookout for fraudulent smarttrip cards. those cards are often sold at a discounted price and the only way to guarantee you are getting the real thing is to pay the full price. they also suggest that you avoid buying the cards from individuals or online auction sites. metro suggests instead you buy from licensed vendors such as metro, cvs or grocery stores. metro says they will deactivate fraudulent metrocards even if they appeared to be legitimate.

a popular six flags america roller coaster now shut down until further notice. the amusement attraction's inspection unit is figuring out why riders spent hours stranded on the joker's jinx sunday, 80 feet off the ground. today, nbc 4 caught up with the two men in the front car. they'd ridden the amusement park many times before. and at first they started to snap a few photos as you see there. and then the reality sets in. >> i'm on the right side. so i'm leaning down and we're sideways. all i could see is where we would fall. pretty scary. >> prince george's county firefighters have trained in high-angle rescues on that exact ride and managed to pull everybody out sel six flags says all rides go through a daily inspection and roller coasters also have three independent inspections done every year.

tomorrow, mainly during the afternoon. let's take a look at the radar. you can see, not seeing much rain at all right now. but to the west is where the rain has been for a good part o the day. these locations here around winchester and hagerstown towards charlottesville, this is where a lot of the rain will fall out of this weather system where there could be some locations picking up an inch and a half. early tomorrow morning, our roads will be wet. temperature at 69 degrees. that wind out of the southeast at 10 meserou and it's during the afternoon hours between 5:00 and 7:00 that the wind will start to pick so stormy, slow for the evening rush. this whole area through here, areas of southern maryland up into pennsylvania, there could even be some isolated thunderstorms bringing some
