rescue teams walking her carefully back to higher grounds. she was relieved to be out of the situation but was second guessing herself. >> i guess i'm embarrassed. my judgment was wrong. i called 911 right away. >> reporter: she was lucky and you can see how fast the water level was rising. it is pouring. this is beach drive near cedar lane. wasn't long ago you could see the entire road. now we have six to eight inches of water. it wasn't long ago that that car down there tried to make its way through here and got stuck. >> montgomery county fire and rescue crews have been busy and are warning keep your guard up for the rest of the night. >> in about an hour's time we rescued about eight people out of their vehicles. no one was seriously injured. a couple of them were pretty tense situations. >> back here now live a tidbit

about the car that was stuck just around the curb. it is no longer there. it has been washed away and now rescue crews have to go and actually find where it is. they think it might be in the channel here at rock creek park. it didn't just flood here. it flooded in many places across the area. kristin wright live in laurel with that part of the story. >> reporter: we talked to a woman parked in the lot this morning. she came back and couldn't find her car because it had been moved because of the flooding. she is not happy because there is water in her car. this may be an instance where some people are glad they were towed. a tow truck began pulling cars out of high water in the mark commuter lot next to the american legion in laurel. >> probably six inches of ter in it. >> reporter: signs in the lot warn it is prone to flooding. mark notified commuters and pulled out the tow truck. it rescued a nissan. >> all of them that we pulled

out so far had a little bit of water in them so folks will definitely have to get to the insurance company and have them looked at. >> reporter: an elderly woman drove into high watern nte road and got stuck. >> we were able to walk out to her wearing flotation devices and put a personal flotation device on her and asster walking back to the water's edge. >> i have never seen it this way before. >> reporter: they s t notified commuters before they towed the cars. live in laurel kristin wright news 4. now to the big picture all across our region we have seen issues on the roadways. check out the situation fairfax county today. no major problems but t layer of rain was enough to create a dangerous situation for drivers including the potential for hydroplaning. we saw several water rescues. take a look at this. we had one woman who got stuck in tacoma park and in chevy

chase another woman had to ditch her car near beach drive. and in the district today flooding in rock creek parkway. you can see here take a look. water is flowing more like a river in some spots and in other areas it has gone up and into the walk ways. storm team 4 meteorologist veronica johnson is here to explain the new threat for tonight. >> that is the threat seeing thunderstorms, more isolated heavy rain around our area. it has been three months since we have seen water rescues like this in this type of rain falling at between two and three inches of rainfall. take a look at our flash flood watch. all of these counties shaded in green, gaithersburg to manassas. those are the ones shaded in red. northern charles county and through prince george's and through baltimore, the flood warnings the light green. that does include areas of the district and northern prince george's county. the dots you are looking at are

all of the flooded roads today mainly i-95 to areas into fairfax and around bethesda areas in eastern howward county. now we are seeing heavier rain moving out. this is the line of thunderstorms that is going to be moving in in the next couple of hours. starting around 8:00 i think the storms will be stepping into areas like fairfax, prince william county where the storms could produce rain and high winds. we have been on the air giving you updates. the threat continues until 1:00 a.m. much of the evening hours, too. now it is the risk of severe thunderstorms. when i return i will show you and take you hour by hour through the evening and take a look at what you can expect tomorrow. we are not the only ones dealing with dangerous flash flooding. here is what it looked like in detroit last night after part of the same system that hit us

today hit them. divers searched along highways for stranded drivers. about 1,000 cars were abandoned after five inches of rain fell. some left cars and had to swim to safety. one woman died after getting trapped in the flooding. she suffered a seizure in her car. with the possibof rain and storms in our area this evening now is the perfect time to get our storm team 4:0 weather app. you can download that for free from the app store or google play. just search nbc washington weather. it's a place where peace and prayer are preached. right now the manassas mosque is a crime scene. someone spray painted all over the windows and doors there. people at mosque think it was a hate crime. northern virginia bureau reporter david culver shows us the damage. >> reporter: if you ask who he is prayer for tonight you might be surprised.

range is being proposed. >> if the horses get used to the constant noise the people are not going to and they will find elsewhere to board. >> reporter: the crack of gun fire is also a concern at this dog playground. it is located here just about a mile from the proposed firing range. the firing range will add to the stress and anxiety of the pets boarding here and hospitalized and recovering from surgery and going to grooming adding to their stress. >> reporter: a homeowner -- >> i think one of the main objections is noise, quiet enjoyment of the property. i'm a frequent user of sugar loaf mountain. >> reporter: they pass out signs saying no firing range. the signs are on display all along turner road. >> people enjoy coming hiking, riding and just the tranquillity of the area. and all of this would be destroyed if this shooting range goes in.

of a broader effort to keep up with loudoun county's growth. about 3,000 cars drive on the road each day. by the year 2020 that number will jump to 10,000 cars. >> a lot of roads have been flooded today. there were 26 water rescues in anarundel county. >> you have to look way down the road to see what is going on to look for the alternative route to take. take a look. this was reston, virginia today. this is south lake shopping center. a lot of folks walking around with the umbrella. that shopping center near lake. big puddles on the lake today. we are going to get more rain over the next couple of hours. take a look at the rainfall totals. over an inch and a half fredericksburg. some locations having trouble

with the rain gauge. over to gaithersburg and coming down really hard at times in baltimore. they see at least over four foofive inches of rainfall. rest of virginia dry. rain showers around chantilly. red shaded counties continue under a flash flood warning. heavy rain moving out and there has been lightning, too, and isolated severe thunderstorm warnings. we have seen those through the northern neck and to the north and west. this pocket around hagerstown and winchester very strong storms. that line that is starting to form, winchester down east of petersburg west virginia is moving east. in another four hours it will arrive here. folks around 8:00 or 9:00 there could be storms producing high winds and not just heavy rain. in terms of rainfall intensity that i think we are going to see big umbrella or no umbrella we are back to the big umbrella

amber stanley's death which will be next friday. i'm tracee wilkins, news 4. her daughter was just 3 years old and became the victim of a deadly night. now, the mother of a little girl is sharing her pain. the 3 year old was shot and killed on sunday. police say she died when 25-year-old devaughn wallace opened fire on the house. coming up new at 6:00 news 4's shomari stone sits down with the toddler's mother. hear what she has to say about her little girl and the direct message for the suspect on the run. a ruling on the death of a mother and her two children in hagerstown in june. officials tell us the three died from heat stroke. allison pluck and her daughters were found dead in a vehic in a middle school parking lot. the car windows and doors were

foer former virginia gubernatorial candidate. they were political allies running on the same gop ticket. now former attorney general kilgore is a lobbyist. star scientific jonnie williams hired him in 2011 to try to find state money to do research on the supplement. kilgore testified he had two prong plan. this was a key question asked by prosecutors that i addressed to kilgore outside the court. what did jonnie williams tell you? >> he believed he had the support of the first lady and governor. >> reporter: upon investigation it showed kilgore was never able to deliver on the plan for state help. asked the lawyer, nothing happened did it.
