there is lightning with it now. that's expected to make it into areas like big meadows, madison and waylands mill. eventually the whole line comin. close to four inches. wells corner, five and a half. yes, we could pick up another quarter inch of rain, maybe even a half inch in some locations. that's why the flash flood watch continues until 2:00 a.m. what you can expect for the morning rush. i will have it in a few. >> we continue our coverage now with jackie benson where rescue crews were pulling people from flooded cars. jackie. >> well, jim, the gates are up here to keep people from drive aring onto dark, flooded roads. 9:00 p.m., montgomery county fire and rescue crews pulled an elderly couple to safety from their car in deep water normally

not in the parking lot of a synagogue on university boulevard in silver springs. it was a long day for first responders. hours and hours of relentless pounding rain forced normally placid streams, tributaries of rock creek, up and over their banks. fire and ems crews went from one water rescue to another in the chevy chase and tacoma park areas. >> turn around. don't drown. >> l.l. licktenburg was grateful to the teams that put her in a raft and guided her back to safety. she called 911 immediately when her car got stuck. >> it just came out of nowhere. you know, the car in front of me stalled or stopped. i thought it got stuck in the flood water. i thought i would go around it. what happened is i just got in deeper water. >> as you saw from the pictures

taken at 9:00 p.m. tonight, two hours ago there is l plty of water othros. jackie benson, news 4. >> baltimore is drying out after record rainfall. tl caused major roads to flood. the northbound lanes of the 895 tunnel were shut down because of high water. this van started floating as water rose beneath railroad tracks and cars were flooded at bwi marshall. >> flooding problems in laurel as well. the often flooded commuter lot caught more rain tod. up to six inches of water. tow trucks were called. some streets were shut down because of high water. the rain came down so hard it caused slick conditions on the way home from work today. >> of course stay with news 4 for the latest on weather conditions. news 4 begins at 4:26 in the morning. the crew will get you up to the

minute the minute you're up. new at 11:00, tonight the mother of a 3-year-old girl gunned down in her house. she has a message for the man accused of shooting her. the man hunt for suspected gunman heated up toda is. >> reporter: we tald to the mother of the three-year-old he's suspected of kig. >> wish i had my baby here now. >> reporter: the 3-year-old was shot and kill. tonight her suspected killer, devan wallace is on the run. >> you need to turn yourself in. you took a life that can never be replaced. >> the life of a little girl who liked to swim and play. prince georges county police are searching for wallace. officers were descending on the house located on the same block the child was killed.

the homeowner says wallace used to hang out here with her grandson. she told him to stay away months ago. >> i told joe he's not wce here anor >> after he got on a fistfight over clothes. >> my cousin got into an altercation. he left, came back and shot up the house. >> the 3-year-old, her little brothers and mother were visiting their cousin. she was up stairs ith bedroom. >> found my daughter laying in blood. >> reporter: she wou he turned 4 next month. her mother was planning a birthday party. tonight, she plans her funeral. what are you going to miss most about your daughter? >> her kissing me every morning, every night. >> reporter: i talked to police. they tell me they have no leads in the case now.

two german artists say they planted the white flags on top of the brooklyn brid. last month the american flags were replaced with flags bleached white. questions about whether it represented an act of terrorism or an anti-american statement. the artists told "new york times" it was an art project meant to pay tribute to the german born architect of the bridge. the nypd is investigating the claims. >> a mosque in virginia is a crime scene toni vandals tagged every door and window with orange spray paint. even kicked the door until the glass shattered. the imam said he believes it was a hate crime. none of the other businesses in the area was hit. he harbors no bad feelings toward the people who did it. >> i pray for them guide tm.

country. i think one tng of concern could be fog around. maybe debris in could be three to five inches today. this is over the last four hours. wanted to show you a bigger portion of the area. montgomery count prince georges after the heavy rain today. it's been fairly quiet for four hours with a shower here and there. we tyake a look to the west. there is the line. little bit heavier rain down there. it's an hour or two away from getting to us. so around 1:00 a.m. this line will be making its way into our area. we have showers again around 66. down toward 81. rainfall in the pocket, about an inch and a half per hour.

so not everyone will see that quarter inch of rain additional. areas of madison county, you will be picking it up in the next couple of minutes. temperatures not bad. 71 in haggerstown. warm spot in d.c. 77. off to the east in cambridge. by morning we are going to drop to the upper 60s. not going to be chilly. we could see fog around the area. there is the start for your day. early 7:00 a.m. some cloud cover left. call it partly cloudy and a partly sunny afternoon. can't rule out a shower for tomorrow afternoon. the end of the week again, fantastic. we're back to sunshine. high pressure moves in. low humidity again. if you are biking to work tomorrow morning, sun rise at 6:20. there are temperatur hitting the mid 70s by 10:00 a.m. the only thing to worry about is debris along the sides of the road. for the most part roads will be dry tomorrow. a lot of sunshine. so that should give us a chance

there is a turtle with a new lease on life thanks to a samarita who spotted some trouble. the coast guard sai a fishing boat noticed a leatherback turtle struggling in fishing gear 30 miles off the south jersey coast. crew members from a station in atlantic city rushed out to help. after some wrangling, they got the turtle free and it swam away. this is no ordinary box turtle
