>> reporter: news4 has learned the name of this detective who was shot and wounded this morning. we are not going to name him. d.c. police has a policy of not releasing names of crime victims is we are going to honor that request. but i can tell you that he's been an officer with d.c. police for more than 25 years. he was shot four times, yet he is expected to be okay. his fellow officers tell me they are not surprised. they say he is a very tough man. and we begin our sty tonight in the neighborhood where one suspect was arrested. >> we knew something seriously had happened. >> reporter: hampton buster was asleep when a group of men wanted in the shooting of the off duty police detective drove down a street and bailed out of their car. >> apply grandson was in the basement he come up and woke everybody up the police in the yard. >> reporter: onef suspects arrested here in hple d j steet? northeast. the others scattered in the

lanes around 3:00. they did lift hov restrictions to get traffic flowing again. and we've just learned three were hurt but all are expected to be okay. the delays as you can imagine are ugly folks. traffic backed up to about new hampshire avenue and on the inner loop into virginia near i-66. now check out the scene in parts of maryla after yesterday's heavy rains of the looks at the damage left behind. some roads undermined by swift moving water. a bridge even washed away and that is only part of the problem. a water main bre ad to a boil water advisory for thousands in an area thfrom ak keek to fort washington. >> lots of problems here in southern prince george's county. here on southern springfield road you can see it's closed. and you look right beyond the

sign, that's just how serious it is. if a car tried to derive down the road they would find themselves falling into what is now a 20 foot deep ditch. >> where you see the grass and all bent over that is where the water was rolling down through here. >> reporter: water was literally coming from everywhere in parts of southern prince george's county last night. >> i went outside and water from my backflow was coming out so i went in my basement to turn the water off. >> the intense flooding of nearby creeks washed away driveways like this one. >> i couldn't go any further than this. and the current was really strong. logs coming through. a boat or something came through. >> reporter: you c see just how jeopardized south springfield road is and you can also see the path of rushing water how it left a huge crevice on the side of the road and this is the end result, the bridge completely washed out and now this road is closed. department of public works crews

put signs up and actual concrete barriers to keep drivers from falling into the ditch in the road. and if that wasn't bad enough there was a 12 inch water main break that ran over night adding to the flooding water and decreasing water pressure in the area. >> we've isolatedai folksreacinerce thear aecse of the low pressure situation, contaminates can get into the pipes and so we have a boil water advisory in place for the next 36 to 48 hours. >> reporter: spokesn are stressing at this point they have not found contamination but still want folks to boil water and to be very careful just in case. to make sure you are included in all that you can go to wssc, they have a map and you can put in your address and see if your home was actually impacted and you are among the folks who need to boil water. they a expeg last midday

friday. more on how they are dealing with the water advisory in prince george's county. and the flooding aftermath is just limited to our suburbs in southern maryland. check out this bridge. flood waters washed away a huge chunk of the bridge. in fact you can see right through it. the baltimore area hasn't gotten that much rain in 80 years not since 1933. so much rain fell it turned a parking lot at bwi airport into a swimming pool. now travellers are coming home to find cars flooded with water, covered in mud and some cases no longer running. >> reporter: these are long term parking lots, where this all happened.

. protesters on the move in st. louis. a city that has seen two police involved shootings in the past few days. >> police in ferguson are now asking people to protest during daylight hours only. and this is coming after a second police involved shooting in that same town. police say it happened during dimensions last night. officers shot and critically wounded a man who pointed a gun at them. this all is coming after this weekend's fatal shooting of the michael brown. brown was shot and killed by an unidentified police officer and that shooting has stirred up a lot of racial tensions in the st. louis suburb. today there was this exchange between the state senator and the police chief.

national slugger jayson werth is known for driving pitches out of pal park. he is in trouble with the law for driving over 105 miles per hour. charged with reckless driving last month. they clocked his porsche driving 105 in a 55 miles per hour zone. this is the copy of the stick werth received. he had a hearing for last week but the case was contued until november 12th. the nationals released a statement regarding the misdemeanor char saying quote the nationals have been in contact with jayson with regard to this for weeks. he's cooperating with the authorities as it is. as an ongoing legal matter the team has no further comment. werth was out of the lineup yesterday dealing with right shoulder inflammation. now at 5:00, handy man arrested. >> find out what a man who's family trusted is accused of
