>> really bad news for some people coming back from vacation. their cars were floedroth record rainfall yesterday. we'll tell you why some of them could be left sitting like this for days. we've just learned a m missouri state senor is among those gassed in a protest. tonight the new calls for a curfew amid the violence following the shooting of an unarmed teenager. a story on a new shooting. >> officers are looking for two people in connection with that attempting carjacking. they already have one in custody. we're told the detective was shot four times but he's expected to recover. >> we spoke with the man who's backyard became a crime scene as this played out. darcy? >> reporter: first want to tell you we have lrd e name of that detective who was shot and wounded this morning. at this point we are not going to report that name. d.c. police have a policy of not

releasing the names of crime victims. so we are honoring the request and not giving the name. but i can tell you he's been with the department more than 20 years. he is a standout detective, i'm told a very tough guy. people are not surprised he's living to tell about it. apparently none of the bullets hit any vital organs and we're beginning our story in the neighborhood where the suspects made a very desperate attempt to get away. this neighbor didn't want to give his name but he5ñ> i didn't hear nothing. the police standing at the door telling us to go in the house. >> police searched his yard and others in the neighborhood look of course are a suspect and a gun used to shoot a d.c. cop. hampton buster was asleep when

that happened. >> my grandson is in the basement. he come upstairs and waking everybody up. the police in the yard. >> reporter: one of the suspects arrested here in hunt place in j street? northeast. the others scattered and got away. >> we come outside and find out they were searching the yard looking for something. and we looked across the street and found they had one suspect on the ground. >> reporter: the men are wanted for shooting the officer at pennsylvania and sorn avenues in southeast early this morning. police say the guys were in a nissan altima with new york tags. they tried to carjack the detective and rammed his car and shot him multiple times as he tried to drive away. >> it doesn't appear the detective ever had a chance to fire back. >> d.c. public works crews were called in to mow and cut down debris in hunt place looking for a weapon used in the shooting. a police dog was also brought in but no gun was found. they did recover a set of car keys and placed them in an

evidence bag. everyone here hoping for the best for the officer. >> community is praying for him. so, you know, we know he's going to be okay. >> reporter: the d.c. police have arrested one suspect, at least two more people are still at large. so far police have not named the suspect but i am told he's from right here in the d.c. area. live from d.c. police headquarters. news4. >> thank you. antog wa len more about the police oic shot. the detective involved is considered one of the best in the department. he's been with d.c. police more than 25 years and currently works in the city's 6th district which covers much of the area east of the anacostia. >> same sex couples in virginia could be one week away from being permitted to marry in virginia. northern virginia bureau reporter david culver is out the prince william county courthouse. he explains how the court's

possibly going to handle the change in law. david. >> reporter: a ek from today we could possibly see gay couples walk up to courthouses asking for a m license. i've been talking with some courts here in northern virginia and some tell me they are going to abide by the attorney general's lead in all of this but it is not clear if all clerks are going to follow that. what we do know is the clerk here is among those fighting to keep the ban on same sex marriages in fact taking to it it to the highest level asking the u.s. supreme court to step in. the fight against virginia's ban on same sex marriages has moved quickly. in february we were in norfolk for the first round. the u.s. district court striking it down. the defense took it to the next level. they also declared the ban illegal and today they decided not to impose a stay meaning gay marriage would be allowed as

tuss, news4. flooding also caused damage in prince george'ty a scene from chopper 4 over brandywine earlier today. the bridge on sprie road washed away and left behind a 20 foot deep hole. and a water main break has led to a water boil advisory for thousands in the southern part of the county. the crews can't make repairs until the water in the creek resooeds. tracee wilkins wi have more on how people with dealing with this. >> we weren't only ones impacted by the strong storms yesterday. news4 chris lawrence looks at the damage from coast to coast. >> this storm system stranded drivers and shattered records. let's squlie litt about what we're talking abo the hardt hit area, new york, michigan and out here in the state of washington. let's start right up i-95.

this is the morning commute here in long island. look at that. dozens of cars stranded in high water. at least one person was killed. parts of long island recorded more than 12 inches of rain in 24 hours. on average that is more than they get in an entire summer. the cleanup already under way with major roads kakd in mud. even my family members have been telling me about this. officials blaming old out of date infrastructure and pipes that were overwhelmed. and finishing up out west. the state of washington, look at that. they got hit wi a rare and dramatic dust ston top of the rain. highways had to behudo because drivers could barely see. and to show you how powerful the floods can be we're going to take a look at what happened in a hospital in nebraska. surveillance video shows a massive wave burst a dining

. a dump truck over turned on i 270 about 3:00 this afternoon. when it happened three lanes had to be shut down on the northbound side. those lanes just opened back up. the delays extend onto the beltway towards silver spring and on into virginia. three people were hurt and all expected to be okay. nationals' right fielder jayson werth is hurt with a shoulder injury more than that tonight. accused of driving his porsha 105 miles an hou a 55 miles per hour zone. that is copy of the ticket he received from virginia state place on sunday morning last month. he is due in court in november. the team knows ant the citation. >> the mcdonnell corruption trial.

prosecutors are preparing to wrap up their case but first they dropped a few bomb shells. out the courthouse with the latest. >> reporter: as the prosecution start wrap this up they put in fbi special agent on the stand and he is walking the jury very deliberately through the timetable of the three-year relati between bob and maureen mcdonnell and johnny williams and as he puts finishing touch the case he is also revealing striking new details, new numbers meant to reinforce the allegations. we've seen the dresses and in testimony we've hed all about the new york city shopping spree where williams treated maureen mcdonnell o a new wardrobe. as the prosecution begins to wrap up, jurors got the numbers. johnny williams put more than 20,000 on his am ex that day. the new information comes as

they unveiled an elaborate color coded chart summarizing records, phone calls and documents collected in the case. some of the numbers are jarring. the mechanic donl's credit card debt, some $74,000 in january of 2010 when the governor kwuz sworn in. it grew to $90,000 by september of that year. prosecutors allenaial distress is one reason the mcdonnells accepted more than $150,000 in gifts and loans from star scientific ceo johnny williams in exchange for promoting his company's product. the prosecution chart also takes aim at part of the defense case the mcdonnells could not have conspired becau the marriage was a mess and maureen had a crush on johnny. phone records show bob and maureen talked more than maureen and johnny in the same time period. the prosecuti plans to rest

tomorrow. the jury will get friday off. at means the defense case could begin monday and we could hear from bob mcdonnell as early as next week. he's said day in and day out as he's coming to the courthouse he is eager to tell his side of the story from the witness stand. plans developing for a possible rescue mission in iraq. nbc news learned today that u.s. special op forces have landed on top of mount sinjar will thousands of iraqi refugees have been stranded. the state departmeaysse forces have returned to the town of erbil now. and they are usinghat they have learnedo figure how to get those people off the mountain. those people are members of a sect called the yazidi. part of the mission could include air lifts and air strikes to clear a safe co corridor. t e th call onssn in the next couple days.

last week somebody murdered raj kah mar and now there is a new push to catch whoever did it. police say the reward is now up to $27,000 for that person. he was killed during a robbery at an exxon gas station where he worked in hanover maryland last week. he was workin there trying to get enough money to put his kids through college. a large chunk of the reward is coming from the fbi. and the county's muslim council has also contributed. water in the creek complicating efft fix a water main and thousands are being advised to boil water before drinking or using it to cook. the advisory effects thousands in an area from accokeek to parts of fort washington in the southern part ofoun prince george's county bureau chief joins us with the latest.
