i am wendy rieger sitting in for pat lawson muse. >> and i'm jim handly. a big day in court today. big bombshells. >> this time straight from bob mcdonnell who says he and his wife don't even live together anymore. >> julie carey has the latest on the former governor's second day of testimony in his federal corruption trial. >> reporter: we have seen bob mcdonnell and maureen mcdonnell come and go from the courthouse separately. today we learned out why. he moved out about a week before the trial started and moved in with a priest friend at a local rectory. he testified for several hours and told jurors what he hadn't revealed to closest friends, the story of how the marriage disintegrated. bob mcdonnell was composed as

the defense attorney walked him through the 22 years in public office. he was away from home more and communications broke down. maureen was stressed especially when she assumed the role of first lady. mcdonnell says by 2011 he began to work later to stay away from the mansion and his wife's constant complaints and says it came to a head in early september in 2011 when he set aside an entire weekend to spend time with maureen but came home to anger. she said she was yelling at me and had almost uncontrollable anger. i was heart broken that maybe this was the end of our marriage because we couldn't communicate anymore. that blowup led to an e-mail from the governor to his wife. we will tell you what bob

around 5:00, 5:30. it could effect the nationals game. we are looking at this area of showers and thunderstorms and lightning associated with this, too. not severe now but strong with winds gusting upwards of 30 to 40 miles per hour. look at the rain towards west virginia. we will talk about that and other rain chances as we move into the weekend. we got weekend plans you don't want to miss the forecast. d.c.'s new fire chief is crying foul all having to do with the consequences of several firefighters accused of neglecting their duty when they refused to come to the aid of an elderly man named mills. mills collapsed and died outside the firehouse in january. that is where mark segraves joins us with more on what will happen to the firefighters and why the chief isn't happy about it. >> reporter: we are standing in the parking lot where mills died right across the street from

engine 26. today chief jones told us two firefighters will be briefly suspended and then two of them will be briefly suspended and -- interim chief jones said two will be suspended. one was exonerated. the person in charge that day was able to retire with a full pension before she could face any discipline. jones says had she not retired the board would have recommended that she was demoted. jones said it would have been up to him the penalties for all the firefighters would have been much more severe. >> i would have made a decision that somebody would be held responsible and have lost their job. >> reporter: jones says lieutenant davis was most at fault that day and she should have definitely been fired.

>> reporter: the chief is down by the trial board decision. the mills family issued a statement saying they were saddened but not surprised by today's decision. we will hear more from the family and more from the chief and we will learn what can be done in the future to hold firefighters more accountable. reporting live in northeast, mark segraves, news 4. we learned the two american missionaries infected with ebola are now free of the virus. before leaving kent brantly said it is a miraculous day. doctors say there is no threat to the public. >> reporter: dr. kent brantly smiled broadly as he walked into a news conference free of the ebola virus. >> i am thrilled to be alive, to be well and to be reunited with my family. >> reporter: doctors released brantly and nancy writebol.

a local woman is dealing with the death of her boyfriend who was allegedly shot and killed be her estranged husband. this happened late last night in laurel, maryland. police say kathie mendaola was sitting in a car with her boyfriend when her estranged husband showed up. when her boyfriend got out of the car to talk police say the husband shot him several times. >> didn't show me anything that he was going to come down and do

are going to continue to watch it moving to the southeast at 20 to 25 miles per hour. more rain around bethesda and rockville and coming right across the beltway. this is the one storm that is in the game right now. another storm through the north has been weakening some. there may be a few more as we move on to the rest of the evening. this storm here is very strong. that is something we are watching out for, too. look back towards west virginia, a lot of rain towards the west. not all of this reaching the ground just yet. if you live towards the shenandoah valley and west virginia if you are watching us in portions of west virginia you may see more rain throughout the night. the rain is cooling off temperatures. 77 in leesburg. 87 in d.c. the heat index upwards of 97 degrees. tomorrow 84 to about 88 degrees.

for the second time in a week the "today" show is celebrating a new edition. carson daly and his fiance welcome baby rose into their life. a lot of girls. >> there are a lot of relationship trouble rumors out there but beyonce and jay-z won't find trouble over the trip to cuba. the couple celebrated their fifth wedding anniversary last year. after that came to light some members of congress questioned whether the visit violated the ban on visits to cuba. a new report says they did not violate sanctions and no formal

tracking that severe thunderstorm in portions of loudoun county. severe thunderstorm warning for louden and fairfax county until 5:00. here is the airport. that storm is going to be stopping airport traffic. you can see where this is. see the circle right there? that is the radar. the radar that is right now over the radar at the national weather service headquarters. and this storm making its way right across hernden and ruston. more rain over bethesda and over towards the college park region. parts of northwest d.c. seeing the rain. the heaviest storm making its way to the south and east. so if you are out there along, say, 28 or the dulles toll road get ready for this storm. a lot of lightning and very heavy rain associated with this. severe thunderstorm warning in effect until 5:00. i will keep you updated here in

national guard to withdraw from ferguson. violence sparked by a controversial police shooting has subsided but the investigations into the death of 18-year-old michael brown are far from over. leanne gregg is live in ferguson with the latest. >> reporter: the governor says the withdrawal of the military will be systematic and coordinated with the highway patrol. protesters in the community say there are still many unresolved issues. signs of de-escalation in ferguson, missouri. calm demonstrations. only a few arrests compared with dozens earlier. the missouri governor says it is safe to withdraw the national guard sent to protect the law enforcement command center after demonstrations in the past two weeks often turned violent with gun fire, tear gas. >> i hope the calm we witnessed

the bus stop will be safer for kids in prince george's county this school year. when students return 20 buses will have cameras to catch those drivers who try to illegally pass them. the companies in charge of the cameras will be sending the pictures taken to the police. the fine is $125. a similar program is in place in montgomery county. it is the law in maryland. you have to stop 20 feet from a school bus when the lights are flashing and that arm is out. an investigation by the news 4 i-team reveals 4,000 bikes

stolen. >> our under cover cameras caught some of them in the act. scott macfarlane shows us how the crooks are operating and what the metro police are doing to stop them. you just boarded to go to work. sometimes a few crooks stay behind. >> news 4 i-team under cover cameras positioned outside metro rail stations in d.c., virginia and maryland watched a series of bike thieves pounce. early afternoon on the red line three guys circling, one scoping the scene gives another a thumbs up. the other one cuts the lock. these crooks targeted one of metro's bait bikes. metro uses the bait bikes to catch the thieves. >> try to catch the crime in progress. >> reporter: under cover cops in plain clothes standing a few

feet away. virginia braddock line station. crook tugs and yanks the bait bike free. news 4 i-team under cover camera rolling. metro police quickly catch him and cuff him. why were you trying to take that bike? >> it was just sitting there. >> reporter: he told the news 4 i-team he was taking it for his 10 year old. >> i wasn't going to use it myself. i was going to give it to my son. >> reporter: stealing for a 10 year old doesn't send the best message for a 10 year old. >> i was just going to say i came across a bike. >> reporter: police charged him with grand larceny. one has already pleaded guilty to misdemeanor theft. our cameras spotted a thief swiping a bike seat. the cops nabbed him, too. metro transit police records

show hundreds of bike thefts each year since 2011. >> we are seeing a lot of high dollar bikes stolen. >> reporter: police say they have made some progress reducing the number of thefts in recent months but say crooks are changing up. the stations crooks targeted most last year is different than the stations targeting most this year. metro blankets the bike racks with surveillance cameras. yo acan watch the cameras capture images of crooks. transit police say you ought to check how you are locking your bike. >> use two locks, one to the front and the year tire. >> reporter: 90% of bikes stolen used either chain or cable locks. metro recommends using one of these, a metro bike locker. they offer more security than a lock alone. those locks in so many cases as our investigation shows don't scare off the crooks. what about that bike made it the

in that region be ready because these storms are moving through your area. the new storm developed on the out flow of the big storm just to the south of leesburg. this is a storm i'm talking about. we have rain in bethesda and d.c. light rain for the most part. rain towards prince george's county. this is the area of concern. a lot and i do mean a lot of lightning associated with this storm. very heavy rain around hernden and reston and around 286 here, around 267. here is 28. so chantilly, if you live in chantilly you might want to get inside your house. here is 50 that is where we are seeing the heaviest rain where the storm will continue to go. so on that track the strongest of that storm will hit the fairfax area at about the 5:06 hour. fairfax you get hit earlier than that. and then right down 123 at around the 515 area.

so this storm still means business for sure. a few more strong storms towards pennsylvania and then rain towards west virginia. this is going to move into the region, too. we will see a few sprinkles from this. this starting to die off as we are dealing with a lot of cloud cover. not worried about too much more. besides that one storm. 87 in rockville. 73 rain cooled air. we will continue to watch that. 87 degrees in the washington, d.c. metro area. for tomorrow 88 in fredericksburg and 86 in leesburg. another hot and humid day tomorrow. i expect to see thunderstorms develop tomorrow afternoon. tomorrow evening areas of rain, some heavy. take the umbrella for sure especially after 5:00. i think that is when we have the best chance to see rain. some of the rain may be in the heavy side. saturday we get an easterly flow. the rain comes in, a rather

a father is devastated after an airline mix up involving his daughter. the girl was given to the wrong adult when she landed. >> so this is bringing up feelings that he has never experienced before. >> reporter: a father after getting back his daughter after sending her on a plane to visit relatives. she was flown on delta airlines as an unaccompanied minor. she was picked up by a relative but not one that was supposed to have custody of her. she was greeted and taken by her

mother 39-year-old lopez. >> when he last saw jennifer he was attacked. >> reporter: butler bears the injuries from the last time he saw the mother of his child. he says six years ago lopez along with several accomplices beat him severely and kidnapped the child. lopez went to prison and was released in march. the airline released the child to her mother. butler didn't know lopez was released from prison. >> delta has pretty much admitted that their policy has not been followed. >> reporter: in a statement a delta spokesperson says the airline is conducting its own investigation into what transpired last week. delta's unaccompanied minor handling protocols are thorough and we are looking to see if procedures were properly
