his marriage disintegrated over his 22 years in public office. on the monitors jurors read an e-mail after a blow-up in the fall of 2011. the then governor wrote, i am completely at a loss as to how to handle the fiery anger and hate from you. i'm so exhausted from getting yelled at. he answered questions about the gifts and loans from williams saying the $15,000 gift to his daughter was incredibly generous but okay. he said he knew nothing of the cost of the $19,000 new york city shopping spree for maureen until after the investigation broke. as for the first $50,000 loan to maureen mcdonnell found out after she had spent it and testified, quote, i learned i needed to pick my battles with my wife carefully. so he didn't tell her to give it back. mcdonnell has testified more

as we widen out here, there is more rain and storms to the west. this train of moisture continues to move in from the great lakes. i will update you on what it means for friday evening and that all important weekend in a minute. >> doug, thank you. just one day after the video of the killing of american journalist james foley came out the u.s. and are britain are racing to identify his killer. the man who murdered foley was well disguised. intelligence officials say he lost clues about his identity. based on his voice and accent, linguists believe he's from the london area, is in his 20s and is well educated. investigators plan to match his voice to other recordings or videos. britain's muslim community is asking anyone who knows him to come forward. >> james foley has a direct connection to the district. it was here he honed his craft at the d.c. buy row of northwestern university's medill

also matt williams needs to make good on a promise. we'll explain later in sports. >> thank you. protests in ferguson, missouri, appear to be staying peaceful as the national guard leaves town. the state's governor ordered the fourth out as tensions appeared to be easing. tomorrow, a grand jury will be reviewing evidence in an effort to decide if the officer who shot michael brown should face charges. today the county prosecutor said he intends to stay on the case despite calls to step down over his family ties to law enforcement. here's a live look at what's happening in ferguson font. protests have gotten smaller since attorney general eric holder arrived in town yesterday. today there were calls for protests in dozens of cities nationwide including outside the white house. news 4's chris lawrence was there for tonight's rally and met a mother from the ferguson area. chris? >> that's right. she calls alexandra, virginia,

already retired. medrick mill's daughter ran to the fire house when he collapsed. no one went to help him. today the trial board ruled one firefighter did nothing wrong. one will be suspended and another reprimanded. the lieutenant in charge reare tired with a full pension before the trial board could rule in her case. interare rim fire chief eugene jones wants the union contract changed so the chief can impose stronger punishments when needed. >> i think the penalties were unacceptable. i would have made a decision that somebody should be held responsible and have lost their job. >> the family said it is disappointed but not surprised. the family says the secrecy of the trial board gave the panel no accountability. >> thieves are out to get your money. they aren't afraid of being caught on camera while they do

new at 11, one person is in hospital after trying to put out a fire at a house in alexandria. investigators say the resident woke up to the smell of smoke and a fire alarm. firefighters managed to put the flames out. the house is on north picket

street. one person inside is being treated for smoke inthat litigation and burns. they are expected to be okay. two pets were killed in the fire. investigators say that fire was started accidentally. >> a vigil tonight for two firefighters who were hurt today during an a.l.s. ice bucket challenge in kentucky. the campbellsville university band asked firefighters to dump water on them from a fire truck ladder which got too close to a power line and shocked the firefighters. one is listed in critical conditionment the other is in stable condition. the a.l.s. association has gotten nearly $42 million in donations through the ice bucket challenge, compared to $2 million during the same time last year. it released a statement tonight saying our hearts go out to the firefighters and their families. jim? a shanty town in liberia remains tense as soldiers

enforce an ebola quarantine. the government installed a barricade yesterday to seal off tens of thousands of people prompting violent clashes between some of the residents there who were quite desperate and the police. today officials handed out bags of ice and pouches of drinking water to people living there. authorities are trying to contain that deadly virus that's already claimed almost 1400 lives in west africa. more than a third of those deaths have been in liberia. >> back in atlanta the first ebola patient ever treated on american soil is now a survivor. dr. kent brantly was discharged today from emory university hospital. three weeks ago he arrived in an isolation unit gravely ill with the ebola virus he contracted treating patient this is in liberia. >> today is a miraculous day. i am thrilled to be alive, to be well, and to be reunited with my family. >> we learned that the other

missionary diagnosed with ebola, nancy whiritebol was discharged tuesday. the patients no longer have the virus in their blood and pose no health risk. >> there is a heated debate tonight in front royal, virginia, over a ban on witchcraft that's been on the books there for decades. front royal has long had the code. it bans fortunetelling and the practice of that jik. -- magic. the city council voted once already to remove the code. they will take another vote next week. some of the people who live there are afraid eliminating the ban could bring crime. they say things like tarot card readings need to be regulated. >> these people are selling something. even if they think of it as a religion they are selling it. so it becomes a business. >> we don't endorse sacrifices
