download the storm team 4 weather app from the app store or google play. now to the latest on the corruption trial. for the first time today jurors heard detailed explanations from bob mcdonald about nearly every interaction with johnny williams. over and over again mcdonald said he did not considered williams' gifts or loans to be inappropriate. our northern virginia bureau chief julie carey where court just adjourned for the week. jules. >> just minutes ago bob mcdonald's defense attorney wrapped up his questioning of the former governor with this final question. he asked in your heart and mind are you innocent of the harjz? bob mcdonald replied absolutely. i know that in my heart i spent 38 years in public service, and i wopt give that up for a round of golf. referring, of course, to one of the many gifts that the former first couple received from johnny williams. as you mentioned, mcdonald repeatedly on the stand today said for all those gifts and loans, he never did anything inappropriate on behalf of the

business center. his explanation for nearly every gift, loan, or trip from johnny williams. mcdonald personally negotiated two of the three loans from the businessmen, a $50,000 loan in march of 2012, and a 20 pay loan in may of that year. both checks came out of williams' starwood trust account and were written to mobo realty, a small company he operatesith his sister. that company faced red ink, and they decided to turn to personal loans rather than bank loans to deal with the operating loss. as mcdonald's lawyer, did you feel it was inappropriate to take a loan for mr. williams for mobo? mcdonald replied simply, no. prosecutors allege that mcdonald tried to hide the loans, never disclosing them on the statement of economic interest form he filed each we're. health care donald sponlded they were corporate liabilities. on the statement of economic interest i always understood it

to be personal liability. the open question? whether the jury believed mcdonald's explanation. >> on do they think this was a reasonable way of operating your finances or do they think that bob mcdonald was trying to find some way to utilize johnny williams in order to make up for what were some poor financial decisions that he and his sister made? >> the former governor had an explanation too for an event that looked very incriminating in the prosecution's case. the very night he drove williams' ferrari back from vacationing at williams' lake home, mcdonald sent an e-mail to his health secretary. he asked that a top aide be at the mansion the next morning for a meeting with williams and the first lady about an anatabloc research. williams says it wasn't a payback. when he heard about the meeting, he wanted to a health expert there to monitor it. even though bob mcdonald's attorney has finished his question for the time being, the former governor is not finished on the witness stand. he will be back there monday when maureen mcdonald's attorney

virginia a woman is behind bars in connection with four separate prostitution buz. police say she ran a massage parlor that offered sex in exchange for money. northern virginia burbo reporter david culver dug up the search warrant that explained how police lijed her to the case. >> today you'll find several legitimate businesses occupying this leesburg pike office building, but according to this search warrant we pulled, back in march 2009 a former tenant, sunshine therapy, was offering sexual services, including prostitution. the warrant says this woman keyshan lew signed the lease. she pleaded to a lesser violation. then three years later her name pops up on two more leases, an apartment in this building and another sunshine therapy. police linked both prostitution. lew was convicted as charged. then just last month an undercover officer is on-line and finds an ad for an escort

service. it's in this falls church apartment building. it goes up to the sixth floor, rings the doorbell, and a woman answers the too door he gives her money. that's when several other officers then moved in. they made arrests and when they went back to look at the lease on that apartment, here's what they found. the name keyshon lew. in late july police ended up here at yet another apartment lease bid lew. however, they say this is the one in which she was living. they arrested her and took her into custody. they also seized several items from her apartment. at 6:00 i'm going to show what you they took from her place and what that could mean for their investigation. in fairfax county, i'm david culver, news 4. in manassas a man is sfasing gif years in prison for helping illegal immigrants get fake social security cards and green cards. marty is an illegal immigrant from guatemala, and he pled guilty yesterday. the 39-year-old admits taking information from illegal immigrants and then meeting with another person who could create the fake documents.

it happened at least 50 times. florian polanco will be sentenced in september. the remarks came at a luncheon yesterday for the chamber of customers. reid released a statement saying it was in extremely poor taste. he says he sometimes says the wrong thing. >> developing tonight iraqi forces are expanding control near the mosul dam. the u.s. is helping out with more air strikes despite threats from isis. today more planes took out a machine gun position that was firing on the ground troops. the pentagon says since this mission began, the u.s. military has carried out air strikes across iraq. officials -- >> militant groups -- in the meantime, the fbi says isis has not made any specific or credible threats to the

homeland. a bulletin issued this week states that investigators are concerned that isis supporters could -- police departments across the country have been asked to keep an eye out for possible sympathizers who could help the militant group bring in a brand of violent jihad to the united states. we're learning new details about the mortar attack that killed a had-year-old boy in israel today. the israeli military says the artillery shell that slammed into the boy's house was fired from the united nations school in gaza. in a separate attack, a rocket fired from gaza hit a synagogue and injured three israelis. then gaza hamas rounded up palestinians accused of collaborating with israel firing squads executed at least 18 people, including two women. the executions come one day after three top hamas commanders were killed in an israeli air streak. zirchlg new at 5:00, back in the

neighborhood two years later in hopes of solving a still uolved murder of a maryland teenager. earlier this afternoon detectives went door to door in a kettering neighborhood hoping to drum up new leads. in a case of amber stanley. someone shot and killed her two years ago inside her family's home. there haven't been any arrests. police tell us they are closer than ever to a conclusion in this case. new at 5:00 just days before school is set to start in d.c., mayor gray has approved a plan to shift school boundaries. it could mean your child ends up at a absolutely e completings different school next year. news 4 kristen wright is outside one of the schools that will feel the biggest impact. well son high school in northwest. kristen. >> well, well son high school, as many people know, is one of the more coveted high schools in the district. one that parents want to send their children to if they can now face new recommendations for next year. >> many people moved in this neighborhood so they would have

the right to go to wilson. that's a big disappointment. >> jeff steele fought hard against new school boundaries in the district. he and his neighbors in crestview and northwest are disappointed that mayor gray adopted those new recommendations. steel just made the cutoff for his son to go to wilson high school this year, but that still leaves a big question mark for his other son. >> to be sent to a school that doesn't exist. we don't know if it will be better or worse or when it will open. it's impossible to even make a long-term strategy for education. >> it's the first time d.c. has redrawn school boundaries in 40 years. the issue has weighed heavily on robin thurston who is just starting a family in mt. pleasant. >> we were concerned about the possibility of a city-wide lottery in lieu of established neighborhood boundaries. that was something that would make it hard to know what our kids schools would be like, and so it would be hard to commit to a particular neighborhood. >> her husband started a neighborhood group to fight to

if you live in fairfax county, your vote is under scrutiny. the watchdog group virginia's voters alines is challenging the registration of nearly 15,000 voters. the group lamz many residents may also be registered to vote in maryland. fairfax county is the state's largest jurisdiction, and there have been a lot of questions about voting procedures in repeat years. a recent county electric torl board promises to reach out to voters and verify their residency. >> it is one of the biggest local races this midterm election season. two virginia senate candidates just agreed to eight public forums. senator mark warner is being challenged by republican ed gillespie, and one of the debates will be tale viesed. can you see it here on nbc 4 october 7th. that debate is sponsored by the fairfax chamber of commerce. nbc 4 is the broadcast partner in that debate. monday will be the first day back to school for so many local

children, and we recently reported enrollment will grow by thousands in montgomery county, but the news 4 i-team scott mcfarland did more checking and found the county is also facing a new surge of low income children who need the skol's help outside the classroom. scott. >> dorine district records show a skyrocketing number of county schools went into school to get a meal. in many cases a free meal. take a look at this. the district served about a quarter million free lunches or just lunches between late june and today. about double the number served in the summer of 2007. district officials tell us economic problems, the big reason. an influx of international students, including unaccompanied immigrant children among them. the soaring number of kids that might not be able to get a full meal at home go to school to get some. that tl will also be district help and the free food. >> we provide meals and every opportunity for every benefit

president obama has taken 20 vacations. some as short as just two days. he is set to return to the district on sunday. right now a lot of people in parts of northeast pennsylvania are lit literally up to their knees in floodwater. heavy rainfall overnight triggered this flash flooding. it damaged dozens of homes and cars both inside and out. roads look more like rivers in some places. this is in pennsylvania, one of the hardest hit areas. residents say it's the worst flooding they've seen in 30 years. >> too bad it's not in california. >> the ravens, redskins game. you got something over here, but

my friend is having a barbecue in falls church over here. are they -- are we going to be seeing the same weather tomorrow afternoon? >> just throwing that out there. yes to the left hand, and that was -- we're going to see showers just about everywhere. a lot of people have plans tonight. just an hour ago one picture of rain inside the city area. now looking at sunshine out there, and that's going to be the case tomorrow night too. cloud cover around our region, but not bad in most locations. as we look up to the north, notice the clouds getting a little darker there. if are you thinking about heading up to the ravens game -- as we take on the ravens, washington takes on the ravens tomorrow, we're going to be in for showers. that's all it's going to be. just showers. take the umbrella with you. i think you're going to need it in some areas. if you live in northern virginia, we're not seeing anything. as a matter of fact, the clouds have gotten out of there.

if you live along 270, frederick seeing new showers, and showers around the gaithersburg region, here's the one shower right now around clinton that was right over the d.c. metro area coming up in about the last hour. this is the heavy just shower. right around gaithersburg and rockville. you can see it here around 28 and it makes its way towards 270, and down to the south, down towards bethesda also seeing shower activity. this whole boundary is sliding to the south very slowly, and it will continue to do so, and we may see more showers develop this evening. we're not going to see a lot of rain tonight. we will see some showers. again, just keep that umbrella handy. see where the flow is. it's coming out of the northwest. a lot of rain up to the northwest, and it's going to continue to try to make its way here. once again, keep that umbrella handy. tomorrow, a little bit of a different scenario that plays out. if you are heading out this evening or your friday evening, not too bad. areas of rain mainly light, but once again, taking umbrellas, you take the little purse umbrella if you want. 73. rain-cooled in gaithersburg, and 83 with some sunshine down towards fredericksburg. here it is on future weather.

>> that snowy owl survived after being hit by a metro bus last january. it's now dead. the rare owl was found dead near its release site on the shoulder of a minnesota highway. the owl had been sent to a rehab at the university of minnesota after the bus accident, and she was healthy and then released in april. officials don't know what killed the owl. she may have been hit by a vehicle, and they identified this burden are bird by a band that had been placed on her leg just prior to release. metro passengers will have to wait longer for trains this weekend. scheduled track work begins at 10:00 tonight. no stations will be closed, but orange line trains will run every 20 minutes, and you can expect to wait 10 to 20 minutes for red line trains. metro will also be testing its fleet of new railcars between

twin brook and shady grove. all the other rail lines will be operating on normal weekend schedules. better check the schedule starting this sunday. big changes are coming from metro bus service. metro says it's changing some routes to reduce crowding and improve ontime performance. also expect changes on some s routes along the 16th street corridor, and on the 7 on route. that goes along georgia avenue. on monday metro will add more 60 foot buses along those routes. the longer buses will provide more room when it's needed most during week day rush hour. it's a great time to get a view of one of the oldest and most expansive private art collections in the district. now admission to the coccoran gallery of art is free. a judge approved the merger with the national gallery of art yesterday. that coccoran was founded 150 years ago. it houses 19th and 20th century american and european art, contemporary art, photography,

>> thank you, doug. one year after chelsea manning requested gender reassignment treatment she says the military has given her nothing but what she calls lip service. manning was convicted last year of sending classified documents to the anti-secrecy site wiki-leaks. she is serving a 35-year sentence at fort levin worth next month. chuck hagel approved an army recommendation to begin the early stages of gender reassignment. manning is to get counseling and approval to dress as a woman, but her lawyer says the military has failed to carry out the recommendation. he is threatening a lawsuit. developing right now. protests in ferguson seem to have slowed for the time being, but there's a lot going on in that town behind closed doors. it comes nearly two weeks since officer darren wilson shot and killed michael brown in a st. louis suburb. today we learned the grabbed jury that is hearing this case is comprised of 12 jurors, and three of them are african-american. according to the site go fund me, more than 1 a $160,000 has been raised more michael broub's

family, and almost a quarter of a million dollars has been raised for officer wilson. jay gray is in ferguson with more. >> hey there. good evening, wendy. good evening, dorine. protests have had a loud and consistent and constant message since michael brown was shot and killed almost two weeks ago. today, though, we're learning about some support for darren wilson. that's on the other side of the controversy here. a website devoted to raising money for his family and his defense has already raised more than $200,000 in four days. now, there is another website for the brown family. it's raised over $160,000 as well. a lot of people on both sides of this issue. not only here in ferguson, but across the country.

it will be a weekend where protesters say they plan to be here as well. sunday there is going to be a day of peace out here in ferguson, and the family of trayvon martin, the teenager who was killed in florida, will be here to support brown's family as well. all of this while the investigation moves forward. the civil rights investigation led by the federal government and criminal investigation, which for the first time presented evidence to a grand jury on wednesday. they'll continue to bring new evidence once a week to the grand jury as all of this continues. i'm jay gray. news 4. the mayor of a small maryland city is now working out of a new office. kind of. he pitched a tent on the lawn outside city hall after the city council kicked him out. presence georges bureau chief is live with more on the conflict that has led to an unusual ribbon cutting ceremony today. tracy. >> you can't make this stuff up.

evidently two weeks ago the city council met and decided that they no longer wanted the mayor to have a full-time office inside the city hall. he is meeting with constituents in a tent that he has put up right outside of the building. he says he is not going to let all this to keep him from doing his job. >> the office of the mayor is still open. >> reporter: with that there was a ribbon cutting. >> one, two, three. >> reporter: and a kickoff for what the pleasant mayor eugene grant calls his mobile mayor campaign. >> we are here to serve the people. brick and mortar will not hold us back. >> reporter: this all started after the city council voted to remove the mayor's permanent office space two weeks ago. this was amid allegations of them creating a hostile work environment for employees. it's the latest in an ongoing balancings between some of the city council members and the mayor. >> let me state for the record that there is no truth to those

allegations whatsoever. one simply because i don't even run the city. the city council over the past five to six years have been stripping away the powers of the mayor over and over and over again. >> the charges were never brought forth to the citizens, to the people who elected this man an officer. a small crowd gathered in support of the mayor's announcement today. among them was gloria, a member of the city's ethics committee. >> the ethics committee's job is to investigate any charges against the city council and the mayor. we were never informed, and i don't understand why. >> reporter: the mayor says he lost full access to his office without due process and will now rely on his mobile tent and social media to reach his constituents. even though the senior offered another alternative. >> i offered to let him come into my house and use my living room as his office. >> now, the full council did not

vote against the mayor of being removed from his office. coming up on news 4 at 6:00 it is city has a response to all of this. they're saying that this is not necessary and that the mayor still has access to his office. just not full-time. we'll explain that coming up on news 4:00 at 6:00. i'm tracy wilkins. 6. now, of course, there's a special bond between a virginia police officer and his canine partner. justin miller resigned from the damascus police department earlier this year, and he is fine with his retirement, but he doesn't want to leave behind his canine partner emmy. they worked together for two years. the town council decided take bids to sell the dog. miller set up an on-line account to raise money so he could keep emmy at his home. so far he has raised about $8,000. ah. >> you are going to get attached to your dog. you don't have a choice in the matter. if you care for the dog, the dog stays with you. you train together. you spent so much time together. she really does become more than a piece of equipment.
