completely going. >> nineth grade ma? >> first day of high school. the high-tech changes facing this student and other montgomery county children. good morning. we begin with break news right now out of virginia. >> reporter: we got some new information on a developing story out of central virginia. we have learned the acve shooter situation is a suicide. the victim was an active duty female soldier who entered the building waving a gun which she th then reportedly turned on herself and fired. all of fort lee was put on lockdown but now only biltding 5020 where this happened is closed off. the situation is under control at fort lee which is about 25 miles south of richmond. this scare comes as we approach

the one-year mark of the fatal shootings. 12 people and the shooter died in that attack last september. >> thank you. after a door to door search by police two missing girls are home and safe. news 4 richard jordan was there when the girls were brought home. what happened? at least a happy ending here. >> reporter: that's for sure. definitely some tense moments. earlier the girl's parents couldn't find them. they say they disappeared. they called police. they searched the home and the neighborhood high and low for three hours. they ultimately were able to find those girls, five and eight years old. they were over at a friend's house. the mother said she typically sleeps in her bedroom. they had no idea where they where. they knew this was not an abduction or foul play. it seems the two sisters simply

got up in the middle of the night and left their home. it took hours, about three hours police searching this neighborhood going door to door. they went to the park but no signs girls. the story did get traction on social media an that's what led to the discovery. there was a family nearby. a friend of the family that the girls were at. they recognized the girls were there and realized they didn't permission to come over andus snuck in. they called police. the mother went over to pick them up. the girls are fine. they were found safe and sound. the mother saying she's glad to have hermischievous daughters at home. thousands of people a gathering for the funeral of michael brown. let's get back with the latest.

>> reporter: you mention the funeral for michael brown is under way. we want to go live to st. louis, missouri where brown is being remembered today. you can see the congregation. a lot of people in the crowd who came to remember michael brown on their feet right now. we saw a moment ago that the choir was leading this song. the choir up at the front singing. people who waited very long in line to get into this church. we have watched a number of people file into the church. among them reverend jesse jackson. three white house leaders there including one who went to high school with michael brown's mom. the unarmed 18-year-old was shot and killed by police more than two weeks ago and the shooting has sparked protest nationwide. michael brown's family, mother and father arriving just in the

last hour. the family's attorney, benjamin crump will read message on behalf of the family. one person who not be there governor jay nixon of missouri saying he will not be in attendance. he communicated this to the family and said he is doing this out of respect for the family who deserves time to focus on remembering michael. >> thank you for that. people in d.c. will join others in cities across the country to peacefully demonstrate today. one group is gathering outside the white house at 8:00 tonight to draw attention to brown's funeral. yesterday supporters in rockville showed support for brown's family. the naacp and faith leaders met on the office building and prayed for healing in the ferguson community. turning to the weather. we're staying on top of it. starting to see clouds. it should be a beautiful day.

it's levering the bahamas now. we're keeping an eye on that and storm team meteorologist tom is here now. is it going to effect us? >> it's going to be staying off the coast. if you have beach plans keep this in mind. there could be strong rip currents at the atlantic beach, delaware beaches down to ocean city. it's going to be tracking off the atlantic seaboard. there's the view from space now. it's still fairly disorganized. it's still dumping a lot of rain on the bahamas and it's still a tropical storm. this is just updated. the trends are tracking slowly. remaining a tropical storm through the day into tuesday. then as it tracks farther to the north and east it will curve out the sea and track between bermuda and the outer banks. by then it may be a category one herk by 8:00 on wednesday
