thunderstorms move in. the biggest concern with any storms later today, will be some heavy rain that could lead to isolated flash flooding, but more than that, it could just dampen your holiday plans on this three-day weekend. there's also a small chance of some strong winds and any thunderstorms later today. coming i'll be showing you the timing with future weather, when you can expect rain in your area. >> thank you. right now wssc is working to fix a ten inch water main break this morning. this is on brunette avenue in silver springs. 37 people are going without water until that pipe can be all patched up. take a look, a viewer sent us this picture. that main broke last night sending a river of water rushing down the street. we'll let you know when wssc says they'll turn the water back on. >> the ntsb is investigating a plane crash in our area. the pilot passed over the no-fly zone above d.c. and then crashed into the atlantic ocean. that pilot was the only person on the plane and the plane was headed to manassas from the

midwest. it appears that pilot may have passed out in the cockpit. the plane crashed 50 miles east of wallops island in virginia. we have video overnight of the airport where the plane took off. we're told at some point the pilot passed out behind the controls. >> a mystery this morning on a popular trail in cottage city. a man was found murdered and police have no idea how it happened. the body was found yesterday along the anacostia river trail near bladensburg road. police don't know how he died only he had significant trauma to his upper body. this has people who use the trail every day looking over their shoulders. >> any concerns about safety if? >> aeshgs yeah always. a lot of people use it at night and i mean i guess i would to if i had to. but it's kind of scary thinking something like this happened so close. >> police say an autopsy of the victim should shed more light on how he died. >> crews are working to figure out how much damage a propane

tank caused when it exploded in southeast washington. check it out. two families were forced out of their homes but fortunately no one was hurt. d.c. police trying to figure out who is responsible for setting several fires inside a northwest hotel. we brought you this breaking news yesterday morning. around 1:00 a.m., guests were startled awake by fire alarms and ordered out of the building. according to hotel management several fires were ignited inside the hotel while firefighters were on the scene. at least one person was hospitalized for smoke inhalation. guests were forced to stand outside for hours. wondering what was going on. >> crazy. we're standing outside because of fire and something, nobody knows what happened. >> the hotel's response is certainly not very good. now in their defense, it was 1:00 in the morning. >> guests spent part of the night sleeping on the floor

news for your health flu season isn't supposed to start for another month but doctors say they're seeing cases. some pharmacies say to prepare they're going to start to give flu shots in the next few weeks. nbc has how bad the flu season could be for you and your family. >> reporter: the testing for the flu doesn't seem like it ended for dr. sadler. >> we were seeing many flu cases into may and june. >> reporter: and the positive flu test results didn't stop coming in either. >> i suspect that the flu is here year-un and that's how it's able to perpetuate and examine back. >> reporter: one of the positive tests came from an employee at the doctor's office just weeks

ago. it started out as a sore throat. >> didn't sleep at all. really have a bad sore throat. then next morning, i started, you know, have strep. >> reporter: she found it wasn't strep. it was the flu. >> i was very surprised. this is the second time in four months i have flu. >> back in april she was diagnosed with one strain of the virus. this time a different strain. dr. sadler says it's highly unusual to get positive flu tests at this point in the year. months away from flu season starting. >> what this tells me that the flu season is get ready here it comes. school has just begun. the kids are going to be closer together. so i suspect we may see resurgence of the flu perhaps in high numbers than before. >> and that was reza reporting there. doctors recommend getting the flu shots. flu shots usually only cover you one season.

the targeting right now to find out how to go after isis if they decide to go after isis in syria. >> one thing we've repeatedly heard from law make percent in washington is that -- lawmakers in washington is that isis can be compared to al qaeda and 9/11. concern about foreign fighters who may be training in iraq and syria and possibly coming back home to commit some kind of terrorist act. is that a concern in the u.s.? >> it is more of a concern for the uk because you have so many more brits than americans who were involved. 75 to 100 americans reportedly in isis in syria. but there are many more british citizens as well as others with european passports who can much more easily. there is a concern fight wears come back here but isis is different from al qaeda. they're more brutal in some regards and vicious but very involved with trying to hold territory and exed. a potentially to lebanon, jordan and elsewhere, rather than targeting the americans back home.

for the midday hours, hazy hot and humid. afternoon hours more cloud cover returns to the area and some scattered thunderstorms especially to the north and west of washington. for the evening hours, more widespread thunderstorms and again, we've been talking about it all morning potentially strong thunderstorms later today. the main concern being heavy rain, a great day to download the storm team 4 weather app. check the radar and if there is a severe thunderstorm warning issued today you'll get that sent to your phone. the latest check of the satellite and radar, the rain and the clouds, you can see across the d.c. area, just some hazy sunshine. a little bit of rain into western maryland but this is falling apart pretty much everybody stays dry until we start to get into the afternoon hours, not even the early afternoon hours for that matter. that's good news there. later afternoon hours as this moisture back in ohio and other parts of the midwest continues to push on into the area. so future weather 3:00 notice some shower and thunderstorm

activity, western maryland and loudoun county, starts to pick up in intensity toward the evening. the oranges, yellows and reds here indicating heavy rain, some downpours. having people over, grilling out trying to get last moments in at the pool be prepared to head indoors. 6:00, heavy rain, including partings of montgomery county and the district. continuing to track rain moving through the area overnight tonight. southern maryland only a 40% chance you're dealing with thunderstorms today but everybody else looking at a 60 to 70% chance of rain this afternoon. tomorrow grilling forecast is hot, humid, high temperatures will be around 90 degrees for the afternoon and evening hours. there's the chance of a thunderstorm but that threat tomorrow greatly reduced. only about 30%. still could contain a downpour but not as widespread as we're expecting later today. high temperature tomorrow 91 degrees. it only goes up from there.

95 for a high temperature on tuesday. it's going to be a dry start but as we get into the late afternoon and evening hours a shower or thunderstorm is possible. tuesday night when i'm forecasting rain to move through with a cold front. bus stop forecast on tuesday, might not want to hear this but you will have it, looking good. recess looking good. dismissal though, storms likely to hold off but we can't rule out an isolated thunderstorm and it will be hot when students are getting out of school on tuesday. again, some rain tuesday night, but for wednesday, lower humidity from that rain. a high temperature of 91 degrees. mostly sunny skies. wednesday is the day you start to get back into the fall routine, get the car washed, because we're looking at dry weather for thursday and friday, although stays hot with highs in the low 90s. it's not going to be humid. it's going to be that dry heat. mostly sunny skies. next saturday a high of 89. right now a chance of thunderstorms next saturday. >> great.
