system. there is no evidence of actual contamination, but as a precaution, people in the area impacted, they are being asked to boy their water before using it. now, this is a large area. hyattsville, bladensburg, mt. rainier, landover hills, glenarden, brentwood, a big area, about 1 # 00,000 people, you're asked to bring your water to a rolling boil for one hint before drinking it or using to cook with. before brushing your teeth. if you're wondering whether you're among those that have to boil your water, go to nbcwashington.com and we have a link, type in your address. i typed in tangle wood drive, this is the area where the water main actually broke, and you can see that it will pop up exactly the location within the zone. that address is within the red zone, so that means that i would have to boil my water. they're sayi about 48 hours is

the estimate, although that is not an exact time frame. really you should continue to boil your water in these areas until you hear that it's all clear. they will have to do testing before they allow people to just drink water straight out of the tap. back to you. >> thanks, megan. and during the storm last night, there was also a brief radio outage for montgomery county police. radio service is restored this morning. the outage only lasted about a minute. police say the issue was limited to the county and did not have any impact on 911 service. here is the reason for that outage. bolts of lightning, strong winds. you can expect to see a lot of cleanup happening today. strong storms snapped power poles causing outages in montgomery county. wind tossed trees to the ground and debris across roads, too. shall people we talked to said that the storm sounded more like a tornado than anything else. >> it was not a 50 miles an hour

european leaders about the risk of appeasing vladimir putin. western leaders are making similar mistakes as britain and france did with adolf hitler. he reportedly made those comments in a closed door meeting in brussels. cameron told an eu summit you putin had to be stopped from seizing all of ukraine. it is now 6:17. let's go back to angie goff with breaking news in northeast washington. >> we got this just in, 100 homes and a recreation center without water right now. this after d.c. water tells us a main broke between 13th street and sergeant road in northeast d.c.. they also say that unfortunately, we're looking at 8 to 10 hours before that water will be turned back on. but so far, no roads have been closed in the area. nothing else could have been done. those are the findings of a review into the disappearance of

relisha rudd. she went missing six months ago and has her been found. police believe she was taken by kalil tatum who worked as a janitor at her homeless shelter. a 12 page review of the case found agencies did everything they were supposed to do leading up to her disappearance. but the report also recommended better coordination and training for social worker, public school officials and staff at the d.c. general shelter. the report says there were several instances where professionals mandated to report known or suspected child abuse failed to act. we've learned the 9-year-old girl who accidently shot and killed her instructor said the uzi was, quote, too much for her and hurt her shoulder. that is according to the sheriff's report. the 39-year-old man was standing next to the girl at a firing range in arizona. the report notes when the girl pulled the trigger, the gun went over her head. at first the family did not realize the instructor had been shot. they say they are devastated by

the accident during their summer vacation. p. when you need an ambulance, minutes can fadid feel like hou. and for first responders, getting to the call is harder than ever. >> he's not moving over. >> things like congestion and volume, especially distracted drivers who aren't paying attention, those are slowing down emergency response times. take a look at this, a driver in montgomery county didn't move out of the left lane for an ambulance for 30 seconds. first responders say you should be thinking about the people waiting for the ambulance while you're driving. >> unless it's affecting them, they don't actually take it too seriously at times. >> vehicles meant to keep sound out also delay a driver's ability to hear an ambulance or emergency vehicle. response times under five minutes reduce deaths. today mayor gray is headed to china taking part in a ten day trade mission there.

the mayor will celebrate the 0th anniversary of d.c.'s sister city relationship with beijing. gray will also push the world tourism federation to select d.c. as next year's host city. there will be meetings to discuss the way the two sisters can form economic and cultural partnership. in just about an hour, would candidates for congress will offer their plans to increase business in northern virginia. barbara comstock and john foust in a town hall. both are vying for the 10th district seat left open by congressman frank wolf who will retire at the end of his term. as the new school year gets in to actual swing, districts across the country are dealing with a growing problem. male students outthumb male teachers almost 2:1, meaning a short supply of male role models

spotsylvania. just a few sprinkles heading east. temperatures are mild and muggy again this morning. low to mid-70s in prince george's county. upper 60s to near 70 montgomery. most of fairfax county in the mid-70s. rest of northern virginia, loudoun, fauquier, culculpepper hovering around 70. this afternoon, noticeably less humid. highs reaching near 90 again. so the september heat wave continues. and it will continue tomorrow, too, as we'll get humidity back. storm team 4 four day forecast, could get storms south of the metro area, maybe around fredericksburg, southern maryland, highs mere 90. again on friday. hazy sunshine. humid into saturday. highs low 90s. likely storms saturday afternoon into saturday evening. and then a pressure change sunday, monday, tuesday, heat wave ends, low humidity, cooler.

highs just near 80. 6:23. new surveillance video showing the woman known as the serial stowaway trying to get past airport security. marilyn hartman wandering around the airport in phoenix. officers gave her a citation. police have have arrested hartman several times for similar incidents and even boarding planes without tickets. the 62-year-old says she suffers from a mental illness and blamed authorities. caught on surveillance, thieves tried ramming their truck six times in to an atm in an attempt to steal it. it happened this kansas. they were not successful. the two masked men ransacked the machine and only got away with the computer. no cash. they it cause thousands of dollars in damage as you can see there. most people are trying to keep the car keys away there their toddlers. but one grandmother in florida is accused of allowing her 3-year-old to drive her car. that's right. will this happened over the

low 80s for your lunch hour and noticeably less you humid and more comfortable. heading back home, we'll be up around 90. so the heigat wave continues. a look at the school day forecast at 6:41. montgomery county police need your help to find a missing girl. similar lat chan hcharlotte cha for more than a week. she's from montgomery village. a woodbridge man is in jail accused of trying to kidnap a 2-year-old girl. patrick rooney picked her up at a playground on geraldine court. we're told the girl's 14-year-old brother stopped rooney before he got away. another person called police. officers arrested him just a few blocks away. they say he was drunk.

a new data breach likely at home tdepot. the new offer the company just made in the last 30 minutes. the store says that it is working with its banking partners and law enforcement and cyber security firm found stolen credit and debit card numbers used at home depot for sale online. the hacking could date back to april or may. >> this could make it larger than the target data breach which was only during a three week period. home depot says if it confirms the breach, it will offer free credit monitoring services to

any impacted customers. starting today, you will find a big change behind the counter at cvs stores. richard jordan joining us live in northwest to explain this. >> reporter: cvs is also changing its name, it will be called cvs health. but a lot of people may not even realize that change because a lot of the signs above the sores will stay the same. tobacco will no longer be sold inside cvs. this was a company initiative. the goal was to get all tobacco products off the shelves by october 1. they were ahead of schedule on that and now cvs says all 7700 stores are tobacco free. replacing those will be products to help people quit smoking. this is why they're changing their name. ey want to focus on health care. they are advertising their minute clinic where people can just walk in without an appointment, see a nurse practitioner, have their ailment

president obama blasting isis vowing that justice will be served. tracie potts live on capitol hill now with more on that. >> reporter: justice will be served he said but when? the president doesn't seem to be speaking of a time line for air strikes or any other military action in syria after the beheading of the second american journalist which was authenticated this morning. the president called it horrific, but said it will take time and effort and a compaalit of nations to go after isis. he is speaking there estonia, there to reassure the baltic nations that if russia pushes further into ukraine, they won't be threatened. the president announced more air power headed that way for exercises for now. he said nato needs to beef up their defenses and while ukraine is saying yes we're working on a deal to end the violence with russia, russia is saying this morning there is no such deal in place. two different stories on the eve of this nato summit.
