to shock. a rockville family still mourning the loss of a loving mother now has come to grips with a revelation that her son may have killed her. we first reported the arrest of hani haline first last night. still more on the developments from rockville. >> reporter: a funeral was held today for samiaha haline. investigators with the fire marshall's office are inside the house doing their observe investigation and trying to secure the home so that homicide detectives can go in. firefighters pulled his mother from a second floor window, but she died soon after. he was arrested last night. in rockville, kristen wright,

news 4. scott mcfarland has the story at the live desk wrfsh. >> we learned this in the last hour. a single engine turbo prop plane crashed about 14 miles off the coast of jamaica. two people were on board. we're going show you a picture of the plane. there it is. family members tell nbc news that larry and jane glazer were on board. larry glazer is a well known develop ner rochester, new york. where that flight originated this morning, the glazers were flying to naples, florida, we're told, when they reported a problem to air traffic controllers and were asked to descend. the controllers later lost contact with the couple. fighter jets were scrambled, and those pilots could see the glazers slumped over, but still breathing. the jets broke off and the plane landed in cuban airspace. jam ache wra and the u.s. now sending rescue crews to that crash site. it's believed the couple may have suffered from hypoxia, or lack of oxygen to the body. last saturday another plane with an unresponsive pilot crossed into d.c.'s airspace that pimt

has not been found. new details of an apparent case of parental abduction that caused a united airlines jet to turn around midflight. a virginia woman is accused of trying to take her son without the father's permission. had he is from china, and she shares custody of the boy with her ex, who is american. prosecutors say she and the child were on a flight from dulles to beijing yesterday when it got turned around after the father alerted airport authorities. the boy is now back with his father. >> a sixth person has pleaded guilty to vincent gray's 2010 campaign for mayor. mark long was gray's driver during the campaign. in court this morning he pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy. he admitted he received payments from a fund that was not reported to campaign finance

officials. lung will be sentenced next month. he is facing up to five years in prison. gray has not been charged with a crime and has denied any wrong doing. today prosecutors said their work on this case continues. mark seagraves nervous the courtroom today. will he have more in a live report coming up on news 4 at 5:00. >> they search for a missing nih sign has come to an end. martin rogers were found dead in his car off 68 in alleghany county. it's about 20 minutes from cumberland. rogers disappeared from his gaithersburg home two weeks ago. his wife says he told her he was going to a meeting, but his co-workers say he never showed up. the tractor-trailer and the overpass has finally been cleared. the 13-foot truck tried to pass under the 11 foot bridge.

it happened around 6:00 this morning. the northbound lanes of rock creek parkway were shut down for several hours. it was a mess. the truck was carrying fruit to the university of maryland. the man behind the wheel says he has been driving for 20 years, but he wasn't familiar with that area. news 4 melissa maley explains why. >> there are a lot of events going on this weekend, and track work means it could take you a little longer to get there if you are planning to take metro. the nats are in town playing the phiies. there is the curbside cookoff. a battle of food trucks in the northeast. also, the arlington police and fire memorial 9/11 5k run. trains will run every 15 minutes on the red, orange, and silver lines. on the green line you are looking at a 16-minute wait. the blue and yellow lines will run on the normal service schedules. come monday morning all trains will be back to normal schedules

minutes before sunrise to 30 minutes after sunset. orange signs are posted in the hunt areas, so park visitors can be alert. since virginia began tracking hunting injuries in 1959, no injuries related to archery have been reported by bystanders. health care.gov hacked. why officials say you don't need to worry about your info. and hundreds of people who lined up in maryland early this morning are smiling a little more brightly. and a maryland woman known as the bald ballerina taking the national spotlight tonight. how her story will help cancer patients like herself.

would do with my life if i couldn't dance. >> reporter: she goes by the moniker bald ballerina. >> one, and two. >> reporter: maggie, diagnosed with stage four breast cancer in june. she is only 23. >> she's always willing to work very hard. snefr complains. she's one of my best students in united states. >> reporter: she has been in new york on a full merritt scholarship with the geoffrey concert group when she began to feel pain in her chest. given the rigors of dance, she waited four months before going to a doctor. she and others thought the pain was muscular. >> i thought it was like an over developed muscle from carrying a heavy dance bag around new york. i said put it on the other side. now maggie's mother, is at her

side. maggie is undergoing chemotherapy treatments for a large aggressive tumor. she has moved home for now. >> it's a step by step process to see where my body is, but we have to see what's best for me and best for my long life ahead of me. >> the bald ballerina has become well known on social media with postings about her struggle and critical advice for other young women. >> some of my colleagues who i went to school with contacted me saying their doctor isn't letting them get a mammogram, and i said find a new doctor. >> reporter: she takes comfort from her cousin amber who beat leukemia eight years ago, and doctors tell maggie that her tumor is shrinking. >> yes, she has cancer, but hopefully it will just be a chapter in her life and not her whole life. ♪ >> reporter: the bald ballerina is staying on her toes in more ways than one with the goal of returning to new york and her

life at joffrey after the first of the year. >> can you watch the special tonight at 8:00 right here on nbc 4. good to know that cancer -- the tumor is shrinking. >> so beautiful. beautiful. tell us about the weather. are we going to see storms this weekend? >> some scattered storms this evening. about a 30% chance that you are dealing with rain tonight, but a much better chance that you are dealing with rain for your saturday evening. you are heading out tonight, have that small umbrella handy. you might not need to use it. tomorrow evening, i would definitely plan for a period of rain and some of that rain could be heavy with some thunderstorms possible as well. here you can see the hit and miss activity. for the most part, the immediate area we're dry right now, and even where we are tracking rain in areas like frederick county, not tracking any thunderstorms there, but that doesn't mean they're not possible as we continue to work our way on into the evening hours. now, jumping ahead to tomorrow on saturday the weather is having a moderate impact on your day. first of all, we're dealing with

the heat and humidity once again. it's going feel like 100 degrees during the afternoon. then there will be storms moving through the area mainly for your saturday evening. timing with future weather, here we are at 7:00. remember that chance? about 30%. especially until 9:00. after that chance that you are dealing with rain really drops. now, tomorrow morning it's a dry start for your saturday, but it's already humid and muggy outside. with some sunshine. now, as we get into the midday hours, it's still dry. plenty of sun. starting at 7:00 back through loudoun and even parts of prince william county. as we get closer to 8:00, 9:00 p.m. this rain moves through the district ask then continues on into southern maryland and then parts of the northern neck. you can see still that potential of rain until midnight tomorrow night, and then we'll return to

they're having a private invitation only service on sunday. sfwlimplgts apple is making security changes after all those celebrity photos were hacked. the goal is to protect all customers. apple will use e-mail and push notifications to tell you when there's a change to their icloud accounts. for example, if a password is changed or if there is an attempt to transfer your icloud items to a new device. these new alerts are scheduled to begin in two weeks. they promise to help college students build their credit, but could campus sponsored credit

sflimplt college a time many stuns start building credit. some accounts can come with hefty fees. erica gonzalez joins us with a warning. as college students head off to school, they're going to have to figure out how to set up their banking and receive their financial aid. campus sponsored bank accounts and prepaid cards may seem an easy and convenient choice, and they often also serve as student id's, but consumer reports have found that some of these accounts could be a fee trap. higher one says it offers cards at over 800 institutions nationwide. consumer union looks at higher one and eight other companies that offer campus-sponsored accounts. staff attorney susan martindale says students should be very careful about signing up for them. >> we've seen high and unusual fees. the kinds of fees you wouldn't

typically see on a regular retail bank account. >> reporter: fee from the various companies can include overdraft fees as high as $38. a fee each time you use the debit card, 50 cents. out of network atm charges that can run as high as $3. and even an inactivity fee if you don't use your account. consumers union found that while some of the accounts at analyze have low-cost options, students need to use the accounts carefully or risk incurring hundreds of dollars a year in usage fees. so why would anyone sign up for campus sponsored accounts? >> many students find it difficult to avoid signing up for these products, and maybe the default option to manage their financial aid money. they're being nickelled and dimed out of that aid. >> reporter: in fact, a class action lawsuit against higher one alleges aggressive and deceptive marketing and a failure to disclose unconshonable fees. students don't need a campus-sponsored account to get

their financial aid. by federal law you can have it directly deposited to an existing account or get cash or check. >> the lawsuit against higher one is expected to settle this fall for $15 million. there is no admission of wrong doing, but higher one has agreed to drop some of the worst fees. still, consumers union is concerned most of the aggressive marketing tactics remain untouched, and believes regulators should step in to protect students from campus banking arrangements that restrict choices and charge unfair fees. w reached out to higher one for a response to this consumer report story. higher one tells us it agrees with many of the recommendations made by the consumer report and it is helping to set a new standard for the industry and has already addressed and is in the process of addressing several recommendations identified as a part of a federal process to establish changes in the rules governing

all providers. higher one says it is committed to the industry establishment of clear, fact-based and neutral presentation of choices and fee disclosures. if your kids went on a spending spree buying games from google play on your android device, you may have a refund coming. google agreed to a settlement that includes offering a minimum of $19 million in refunds to consumers. this is according to the federal trade commission. parents complained children downloaded apps and made in-app purchases without their consent. apple and amazon have already settingsed with the ftc for similar unauthorized in-app charges. ever wonder if anyone is gossiping about you behind your back? there's an app for that. the mention app. it lets you use your smartphone to search for what's being said and posted about you. just plug in your name, and it alerts you if it finds anything.

social mention is more of a web-based service. it works on your computer to track posts about you on the web. even if your name appears in a hash tag, it can find that too, and an iphone app called cloze, c-l-o-z-e, could be a helpful tool about getting information for people that are close to you, like friends or even your boss. with apple expected to launch the new iphone 6 later this month, people are thinking about selling their old phones. well, you heard the phrase "timing is everything." it's appropriate here. usell.com found that two weeks after a new iphone was launched, the older phones lost about 11% of their value. after seven weeks they lost 21%. the website says the best way to keep the value of your old phone is to lock in a sales price before the new ones hit the market. it's being called the year of the shark.

zifshlgs a flight with 100 americans on board has been forced to land in iran. scott mcfarland has more from the live desk now. >> barbara, this is a charter flight carrying americans from afghanistan and dubai.

we were told it was late leaving baghram air force base in afghanistan. the pilot failed to file a new flight plan when the plane entered iranian airspace, it was ordered to land in the southern city of bandar abbas or be forced to land by fighter jet. it's dubai-based, and they say the company would likely have to pay off iranians in order to leave. the plane and passengers may also have to spend a day or two in iran before they're allowed to leave. these charter flights require specific u.s. military orders and are not open to the general public. for now at the live desk i'm scott mcfarland. nbc's stephanie goss sets sail to find out why so many shark sightings seem to be happening this year. >> that is a huge white shark, dude. that is a huge white shark. >> reporter: this has been dubbed the year of the shark, and so far ida parker and

>> yeah, it was like 5:45, 5:30. >> look at that right there. it was the only attack of the summer in massachusetts, but there are daily sightings off this coast. >> i think the authorities in the area are going to have to base sort of their recommendation on where people swim and when they swim based on what we're learning about where these sharks are spending their time. >> he is right outside my door. >> reporter: two weeks ago nearby ducksbury beach with aed in to the famous movie. >> fishermen chased down this great white in june. a female roughly 18 feet long. compare that to the average kayak. >> they're saying that kayaking here is probably not a very good idea. no kidding.

spread and isn't responding to other drugs. it's part of a new class of cancer drugs that boost the imuj system. it's also been found to help kidney and lung tumors. the american cancer society says nearly 10,000 americans will die from melanoma this year. good news, ladies. your bra will not put you at a higher risk for breast cancer. breast cancer is more common in developed countries, so some had been concerned that there may be a link between the disease and your bra. a new study found no connection. researchers looked at how many hours a day women wear bras, if the bra had under wire or what age they started wearing the bra. the cancer risk was similar for all of these women, regardless of bra use. a texas couple is working with a maryland company to create an unusual work of art that also pays tribute to the military. don tulman and his wife collect emptied casings. they paint the shells and turn
