time out there and abundance of humidity in the air will lead to thunderstorms. there's two chances for showers today. this first little ripple will come through mid to late afternoon today, that's chance number one. however, the actual cold front itself arrives here later on this evening. that will be our best chance for stronger thunderstorms after about 8:00 to 9:00 or 10:00 this evening. out the door weather. is it steamy out there. mid-to-upper 70s already. highs in the low to mid-90s with thunderstorms quite likely after that 3:00 to 4:00 time frame. more on the timing of all that and impact on the second half of your weekend just a few minutes away. >> steam team 4 is helping you track the severe weather right in your neighborhood. all have to do is download the storm team 4 weather app. right now a new york

developer and his wife are missing after their plane crashed in the caribbean. >> the coast guard will join the search for their bodies this morning. the plane took off from rochester, new york, headed to new york. however the pilot passed off and the plane veered off course. >> reporter: it was the first sign of trouble for the private jet, the pilot requesting permission to descend 18,000 feet. once leveling out at 25,000 feet, radio contact was lost. less than two hours before, real estate developer larry glazer and his wife jane took off from the rochester inteational airport bound for naples, florida in their brand new plane. when atlanta air controllers couldn't raise him they

scrambled f-16. they intercepted the plane off the east coast. the f-15 broke off the chase as it flew over cuba. it crashed 15 miles off of jamaica. >> in a matter of minutes you start to feel the effects of hypoxia but in the matter of 10, 15, 20 minutes then you'll succumb. >> reporter: back in rochester the family's real estate office is closed. >> he was a mover and a shaker. he was also a very philanthropic man. >> reporter: an investigation that will continue members of the ntsb has begun. last week a different pilot died in a similar crash when he passed out in a plane heading from wisconsin to manassas regional arraignment. we're following the latest developments into the crisis in ukraine as part of a cease-fire

deal pro russian separatists and ukraine could be exchanging prisoners today. the two sides have been involved in a fight in a' grade yesterday to put down their weapons. international monitors will oversee the exchange this weekend. president obama said if the rebels don't hold to this cease-fire he's willing to impose more sanctions on russia and possible sanctions against russia are just one of the topics "meet the press" moderator chuck todd will cover when he sits down with the president in his first sunday as moderator. todd will talk exclusively with the president about the threat of isis, the evil outbreak and upcoming mid-term athleticses. you can watch that tomorrow morning on "meet the press" right after news4 today at 10:30. >> a professor at american university is expected in d.c. superior court on monday and he could also face charges in montgomery county too. dr. david pitts is wanted for a burglary there. police arrested him on thursday for a burglary in the district. he's accused of it issing a

chair on fire and then breaking into a business in northwest washington. now police say he also seat fire in a wooded area which a student caught on his cell phone which you're seeing here. when police searched pitts home they found more than 5,000 prescription pills including ambien and oxycontin. first on 4 next week we could find out if a former cadet with the maryland state police could be charged for a deadly crash on the beltway. as we first told you on news4 at 6:00 a report determined that 18-year-old sebastian reyes caused a crash that killed a teacher in our region. he made a u turn in an emergency turn around on the beltway last month. the report says reyes invoked his right to remain silent during the investigation. maryland state police would only confirm that he was fired. >> today the navy will name its newest submarine after a

clinic for members of the community. today is the second day. it's first come first serve so people will get there early to get their smiles worked on. when doors open at 7:00 this morning people will file inside and find it's been turned into a huge dentist office. we're talking 800 volunteers along with catholic charities. they are sponsoring this two day clinic. they are performing everything from cleanings to fillings and some root canals. 1,000 uninsured and underinsured patients are expected to file through today. the clinic lasts until 5:00 this evening and again at the university of maryland in college park inside the xfinity center. in prince george's county faith united ministries will hold a health and wellness fair you can get free health scenings for yourself and your family. people will answer questions about health care costs and community resources for mother-in-law health awareness. the event is free and it is at faith united ministries on the

funeral tomorrow questions now are growing about her death. the clinic where rivers is now under investigation. she was going through a routine en en endoscopy. >> dr. nancy schneidnyderman te what you can do. >> joan rivers checked into the clinic for what was expected to be a routine procedure. it was anything but. at 9:40 a.m. the clinic called 911. six minutes later first responders arrived. 10:08 a.m., rivers was driven by ambulance to mount sinai hospital three minutes away. according to the latest figures, one in 10,000 patients a year die while having an endoscopy. >> several physicians say being 81 alone was a risk factor and perhaps joan rivers should not

drink. >> that was dr. nancy snyderman. about 8 mill ennoscopies are performed each year. there's problems for celo green. he has been dropped as a headliner at a music festival in louisiana. this comes a week after he was convicted of a drug charge. this morning police are looking for a man in a stolen car who hit a bus causing the bus to crash into this duplex in california. 10 people on the bus were hurt. a mother and 3-month-old baby were inside house to at the time. the man who hit the bus of trying to get away from police. the bus driver was trying to get out of the way but swerved and hit the house. it barely missed the baby who was sitting alone in the living room. everyone is expected to be okay. the crash caused a gas leak

which was quickly fixed. this morning crews busy cleaning up storm damage in the chicago area, strong winds and heavy rain blowing off part of this roof right there at a nursing home. also damage ad store under construction. the storm knocked out power nor than 100,000 people in the chicago area. and at one point in detroit, 350,000 people were without power. >> i hate to be without power today and without air conditioning. >> i know. please tell us this is the last day of the heat wave. >> this is the last day of the heat wave. absolutely. i can't say we're done 100% with 90s for the whole year. september now is nine degrees warmer than average and we've had as my 90 degree days here in september as we've had for most of july and august put together so it's bean really hot finish to what was a fairly comfortable summer. outside on your saturday morning there's a live picture from our tower looking down to our neighbors, our friendly neighbors, the national

here's the timing on our future weather forecast. all hot and quiet through about lunch time. as early as about 2:00, 3:00 this afternoon, first little initial pulse of rain chances coming in. we could see a shore in that 4:00, 5:00, 6:00 time frame in and around town. rain is more likely after about 8:00 tonight as the cold front comes on through. here's 9:45 tonight, there's that line of thunderstorms trying to form right on the i-95 corridor. so that will be our best chances of rain. by 11:00 that rain chance pushing down into parts of southern maryland. by midnight off the southern tip of maryland and tomorrow morning things starting to dry out. tomorrow will be a way cooler and more comfortable day. storms arriving after 2:00 in t the shenandoah valley. that's the timing for the rain

"30 rock" is home base. after the show settles she may take it on the road hopefully with a stop in d.c. >> i think it's a beautiful city. the monuments are gorgeous. i love running there. georgetown is just really special. i would love to travel with the show. that's not going to happen in year one but knock on whatever in the future it would be fun. >> what has been most important to meredith throughout her career is her family. she was a trail blazer for women having it all and gave up her coveted job at "60 minutes" correspondent when she couldn't work part time after her second child. she still puts family first. >> what's the message i'm sending to other women. life is about priorities. they may change as you go along and that's okay but you need to do what's right for you.

a busy day for storm team 4. we're keeping close watch on that line headed right this way. this could mean rain and storms in the hours to come. i'm right nine storm team 4 "weather center" with my friend chuck bell. and i think some people are ready to take that rain if it means cooling off from this heat and humidity. >> it's so hot and so humid outside, in the mid-90s again yesterday. i think in the mid-90s one more time coming up today. >> already feeling muggy this morning early. >> this is september? yikes. let's go back to august when it was cool and comfortable.

send me your requests @chuckbell 4. >> bob mcdonnell's corruption trial may have cost you a lot of money. taxpayers foot bill for several staffers called to the stand. the post said that the law firm sent a final bill that brought their total cost to about $985,000 and that was at a big discount. staff members who testified at the trial include a former chief of staff, communications director and several aides. the mcdonnells are facing years, possibly even decades in prison and now their jurors are breaking their silence about the verdict. during nearly a month and a half of testimony they couldn't talk about the trial and now it's over and two jurors opened up to northern virginia reporter david culver. >> reporter: as the mcdonnells walked out the front door of the federal courthouse into the

media frenzy thursday this was the scene at the back end of the building the seven mean five women who decided the former first couple's fate leaving quietly finally done with their sisk duty. among them a mother of four. >> i'm finally able to talk about it and i feel like i need do it to get it out. >> reporter: she tells me part of the six week long trial were tough to sit through, especially as the defense portrayed a broken marriage between bob and maureen. >> i spent many of those moments looking at my toes. i couldn't look up. it was so awkward to hear about somebody else's marriage. >> reporter: tougher than anything else was making that guilty verdict public especially in froochbt sont of a sobbing m family. >> as the verdict read and watching the effect it had on the mcdonnells.

>> reporter: leaving the courthouse thursday a few steps behind kathleen was juror robin. >> a lot of us were close to tears. nervous as butterflies. for me a guilty verdict that came but a blow, another blow. >> reporter: in richmond, virginia, i'm david culver, news4. >> the mcdonnells will be sentenced in early january. right now police are looking for two men who held up a store at gunpoint in the district. we got this surveillance video. the two men walk into the store on sherman avenue and euclid near the columbia heights neighborhood. back in august. if you recognize the men call d.c. police. this morning the search is on for another man connected to a series of armed robberies. police arrested 26-year-old curtis fogg. he's one of two men seen in this video. d.c. police are not telling me if fogg is the guy in the white tank top or the man behind him.

they are both accused of robbing a cell phone store last thursday. nearby business owner released. >> released. >> how do you feel? >> better. i can stay here longer. at the same time we have cameras to watch all the people and, you know. so we're feeling better. >> police believe fogg is responsible for eight armed robberies in two weeks. right now police in alexandria are investigating a rape case and want to speak with the man we're about to show you a picture of. take a look. a woman told investigators a man she didn't know raped her last sunday while she was in a bar on south reynolds street. this man was seen with a woman and officers want to know if he has any information about the attack. detectives are not saying if this is the person responsible. this morning prince george's county police and d.c. police will take a walk together to

keep your community safe. two departments are taking part in a unity walk. it's meant to show the continuing cooperation between their agencies when it comes to fighting crime. it starts at 11:00 this morning at the eastover shopping center in oxon hill. >> the city of alexandria will honor hundreds of africans who escaped slavery during the civil war. 2,000 people were buried at free men's cemetery in the 1800s. for the last 18 years archaeologists have been identifying and marking grave sites for the men, women and children buried there. this morning they will rededicate the cemetery to the memory of the 1800 people buried. >> parents thought these helmet sensors were a good idea to prevent concussions. why some think it's linked to a long time coach being fired. >> an invitation for you and your kids. the event happening today to celebrate the start avenue

you can check out a step show to get your kids excited now that school is back in session. just get on over to the second annual back to school step show in the district. the group step africa is working with the d.c. parks and rec department to bring you that show. it's happening from 2:00 this afternoon to 4:00 at the raymond recreation center on 10th street northwest a few blocks away from the georgia of a metro station. also today check out the annual indian festival at river bend park in great falls. it features native americans fromdance performances and a dut canoe demonstration.

you can try throwing a spear or making pottery. of course there's a lot of food. it starts at 10:00 and runs until 4:00 this afternoon. admission just $5. today part of the kennedy center will be transformed into a shopping center. it will host a joint museum sidewalk sale. nearly a dozen museums plan to participate. you can find this side walk sale at kennedy center atrium. it starts at 10:00 this morning and runs until 5:00 this evening. the event is free and bring your parking stub inside to be validated for two free hours. a free shuttle will run every 15 minutes to and from the foggy bottom metro station. all the dogs in the pool today, montgomery county is holding a two day pool party for your dogs this weekend.

neighbors at gallaet university. the day of learning starts at 11:00. you can go to any class with topics that range from yoga to the d.c. scene. you don't have to go to one class pop in and out as many as you like. if you want to go the cost is $15 and the last class begins at 5:00 this afternoon. parents at loudoun valley high school are upset this morning. their children ears football season started with a firing of the coach. news4 jackie bensen tells us that many believe it happened because of his stance on safety. >> reporter: the loudoun valley vikings took to the field for the first game without their long time coach danny mcgrath who had been fired days earlier. on the first day of summer practice the parents booster club bought sensors to attach to

helmets. it's meant to record the strength of hits. school officials declined the sensors and said they were not permitted. mcgrath did not speak out on the sensors but reported the whole team to take off the helmets stopping the practice. at this evening's game a number of parents and others wore t-shirts superporgt the ousted coach. >> we believe it's about the safety issues. coach mcgrath has been extremely outspoken on safety issues. >> reporter: school officials point out mcgrath remains a teach at loudoun valley. >> we made a change last week. the only reason we can say is the changes made for what the administration thought was best for students at allow done valley high school. by law at code of virginia we can't say what the reasons are. >> the school system in williamsburg, virginia made headlines by announcing it would

outfit all of its high school players with helmet sensors. in loudoun county, jackie bensen, news4. former nba player shaquille o'neal is looking to join the police force in south florida. "the miami herald" reports shaq applied to be a reserve office per the florida defendant law enforcement will have to run a background check and also certify im. apparently he does have a history of working for the police. he was a reserve officer in miami beach. last year he was a part time officer. now here is something we don't see every day deer on the golden gate bridge in san francisco. now drivers even stopped their cars to let the animals go by. to complicate matters this happened during the evening rush on a friday on the busiest side of the bridge. the deer got to the other side safely. no one has been hurt. if you've ever been on that bridge on a friday there are back ups all the time. >> the question is how, did they determine how they got there? >> they had the right-of-way.
