now at 6:00, storms rolling through parts of our area. find out who is getting hit and how long it will last. a garbage truck collides with a car, killing two people and creating gridlock on a major road. plus new details in a disturbing murder how a cell phone toledo a deadly stabbing in prince george's county. let's start tonight with the weather. severe thunderstorm warning in effect for parts of the area. amelia segal is tracking the conditions from storm center 4. what your seeing out there? >> right now frederick and washington counties in maryland

are under a severe thunderstorm warning. this is going to go for about another 15 minutes until 6:15. this warning issued because of strong winds, potentially over 60 miles per hour. heavy rain and lots of lightning. heading towards frederick at 6:10, heading towards bartonsville at 6:20 and continuing on to westminster after 6:40. the rest of the area under severe thunderstorm watch. that will go until 9:00 this evening. this includes the d.c. metro area. i'm keeping a close eye on two lines of storms. this line moving through the area right now going be our main weather make they are evening. this second line back in west virginia a lot of it will fall apart before it even makes it here. chris these storms, i'm seeing them weaken but on the current track impact areas inside the beltway in about two hours, around 8:00. i'll be back in about ten minutes with when these storms are out of here and what this means for our weather tomorrow. >> thanks.

we'll check back within you. tonight two people are dead after a garbage truck collide with a car on a busy interstate. it happened this morning on 295 on pennsylvania avenue southeast. the impact was so strong the car hit a light pole and nearly split in half. darcy spencer is live at the scene. >> reporter: a horrific crash. we're set up at anacostia park. this crash was just cleared within the last hour. this cell phone video shows the aftermath of a fatal crash involving a car and a d.c. department of public works trash truck. they were somehow involved in an accidents on 295 north near pennsylvania avenue right around 9:30 this morning. d.c. police tell us that two passengers in the car, both of them adults died. that car hit a light post and nearly broke apart.

two other passengers in the car survived. there were two or three people in the trash truck which overturned. we're told they were not seriously hurt. the crash caused major traffic delays for hours as all of the northbound lanes were closed. and there were some closures and rubber necking delays on the southbound side as well. d.c. police say the fatalities are being investigated by the major crash division. we don't know which driver was at fault, or if any charges will be filed. so far d.c. police have not released the names of the victims who died in that crash. reporting live from southeast, darcy spencer, news4. causing major delays today a crash on the 14th street bridge shut down several lanes for a good part of the afternoon. it backed up traffic for miles and made it extremely difficult to get into d.c. from virginia. crews just cleared that scene in the past hour and traffic is slowly getting back to normal. clean superunder way at this hour after a fire broke out at

this home in northwest washington. it happened this afternoon near 16th and arkansas avenue. the first crews on the scene said they saw flames coming from the three story home. no word yet on what started that fire. a maryland man is in jail tonight accused of stabbing someone to death over a cell phone. police arrested the man and charged him with first degree murder. he stabbed a man wednesday in langley park. he wanted the victim's cell phone. the man he's accused of stabbing is found dead in the middle of the street. a teenager is under arrest for raping a woman near landmark mall. police took him into custody today. he's 17 years old and lives in alexandria. the woman told investigators somebody raped her last sunday at a bar on south reynolds street. there's a new push tonight to target isis. president obama set up a meeting with congressional leaders to come up with ways to fight the militants. lawmakers come back from a five week recess on monday and they

hundreds of thousands of people could be in the dark for days after one of the strongest storms of the year hit detroit. this is the damage from last night's storm. powerful winds picked up a tent at a carnival and sent it flying in the air. it knocked down thousands of power lines and took half a million customers off the grid. crews are coming from new york to help restore the power. the weather led to a tragedy in chicago. an actress who performed in some of the city's most famous

theaters and performed in some hit tv shows has died after being hit by a falling tree. this happened during friday afternoon's storm. molly was riding a bike when the tree fell and hit her. search teams are scouring the water off jamaica after a pilot blacked out and crashed his plane into the caribbean sea. the plane took off from rochester, new york friday morning but about an hour into the flight his radio went silent. two fighter jets scrambled. it traveled about 1700 miles and crashed just north of jamaica. search crews have now found what they think is the field of wreckage. family members say real estate developer larry glazer was flying that plane with his wife jane on board. still ahead a tribute on sacred ground. what's being done to honor thousands of slaves who were bury opened this local plot of ground. and tonight we're staying on

thousands of slaves who died during the civil war are buried here in a local cemetery. a lot of them were refugees trying to get behind union lines to get to alexandria. today the city dedicated a new statue in their honor. derrick ward talked to their descendants. >> reporter: long way from this to this.

some isolated wind damage with any storms tonight. the conditions in the atmosphere just not favorable really for a tornado to develop. here's the latest on storm team 4 radar. this line of storms moving through the area right now. this is going the biggest weather maker this evening entering the beltway by about 8:00 p.m. continuing to impact the area especially southern maryland until about 11:00 p.m. midnight. now as we look further back to the west, another line of storms, this in far western maryland and west virginia. as this line continues to travel east a lot of it will fall apart before it even makes it here, maybe bringing some scattered showers to the region overnight tonight. now the timing with future weather, 7:00 notice the heavy rain in frederick, montgomery, parts of fauquier and loudoun counties. 8:00 the heaviest activity concentrated in anne arundel, prince george's and washington. this continues to push off to the east, 9:00 mainly in southern maryland and northern neck. we return with updates at 11:00 on news4 at 11:00 heaviest activity down in far southern

maryland and northern neck. now here on storm team 4 radar all of this rain ahead of a cold front. so behind this front and it moves through overnight tonight, refreshing. more refreshing air arrives. 92 degrees is the temperature right now in washington. frederick at 82. hagerstown and martinsburg 82. tomorrow the weather, major improvements. plenty of clouds but cooler temperatures and humidity not an issue. dry throughout the day. cloudy at 7:00 a.m. but strt to see more sunshine as we get into the mid-day and afternoon hours. partly sunny for tomorrow afternoon and a high temperature of 81. so today with the humidity, it felt like temperatures were around 100 degrees. tomorrow we're not going to be talking about a heat index at all. nice weather for the nationals game tomorrow afternoon. temperatures around 80 as they take on the phillies. for monday a high temperature of 78. tuesday a high temperature of 79. plenty of clouds around on monday and tuesday.

there could be some drizzle or showers in the forecast. monday afternoon and potentially throughout the day on tuesday. the best chance of drizzle on monday and tuesday is south and east of the area. for wednesday a high temperature of 82, partly sunny skies and then for thursday a high temperature of 87. it's a dry start to the day but as we get into the afternoon and evening hours the heat and humidity builds and with that we're talking about some thunderstorms for the evening. just getting into the "weather center" here a new severe thunderstorm warning has been issued. this thunderstorm warning going for loudoun and fauquier counties. this severe thunderstorm warning as we pull storm team 4 radar up here, again for loudoun and fauquier counties is going to run until 7:00 this evening. again, by about 9:00, 10:00 p.m. a lot of the area will be mainly dry or at threat of threat of severe weather drops down. >> thanks. sounds like things are changing any minute. still ahead winter classic

amelia was telling us about the intense heat and humidity today. here comes jason to talk a little hockey. >> why not. let's talk hockey. it looks like the biggest game being played at national park next year won't involve baseball at all. news4 has confirmed a report by "the washington post" the winter classic will be held nats park january 1th of 2015. the capitals will host to blackhawks in the first professional outdoor hockey game played in d.c. today at the park it was all about baseball for the nationals. we pick this one up at the top of the third. bases are loaded for ryan howard. he sinks this ball into right field. two runs to come in to score and the phillies have an early 2-0 lead. later on in the sixth inning, dominic brown at the dish.
