outside much of the day, don't forget your sun block, spf 15 or better as there's plenty of sunshine getting through. it's cooler than yesterday. sun and clouds mixed. gradually i think we'll see more and more sunshine as the day wears along. afternoon temperatures today mostly in the upper 70s and low 80s. so the sweaty weather is gone. rain chances are back as soon as tomorrow and the seven-day forecast will answer the all-important question, are we done with the 90s yet. see you in a few minutes with all that. >> new this morning, police are telling us a second child has died after some sort of incident at a home in prince george's county. we saw several officers and first responders at this home on forest road in cheverly, maryland, around 2:00 this morning. police say that's when they got a call about two children that were unconscious. rescuers took both children to the hospital, but neither survived. police aren't saying how the children died. they do tell us this is not a random act. well this morning, an

11-year-old boy is recovering after he was hit by a minivan while riding his bicycle. the hit and run happened last night on whiskey bottom road near woodland hills way in laurel. police said a minivan hit the boy from behind, throwing him off his bike. the driver of the minivan then took off. the boy's father was also riding his bike at the time. the boy is expected to be okay. >> investigators are trying to figure out what a man was doing on the tracks when he was hit and killed by a csx train. this happened last night near shady grove road in grabs branch way in gaithersburg. investigators stopped all train traffic on the line during the investigation. we're waiting to get the name of the victim. rescuers facing new problems they work to find two people presumed dead in plane crash. we told you yesterday a new york developer and his wife both experienced pilots passed out while flying to florida on friday. they veered off course and crashed in the ocean near

jamaica. rescue crews found the area where the plane went down. but they haven't been able to find any wreckage. they believe it sunk into the water which can be more than 6500 feet deep there. the u.s. coast guard and the jamaican military are involved in searching for the wreckage. >> new developments overnight in the crisis in iraq. the u.s. has begun air strikes in western iraq targeting isis. the goal is to keep a vital dam from falling into the hands of islamic insurgents. last month isis tried to capture the same dam, but iraqi forces were able to fight them off. the pentagon released a statement this morning saying that the iraqi government requested today's air strikes. the u.s.as launched 133 air strikes in iraq since the beginning of august. president obama is defending his decision to delay action on immigration until after the midterm elections. theresident sat down with "meet the press" moderator chuck todd at the white house.

he says his decision for the delay was political. the president says the surge of central americans flooding the border changed his timetable for executive action on reform. >> what i wanted to do is when i take executive action i want to make sure that it's sustainable. i want to make sure -- >> the public is not behind you, you're not taking it. >> no, no, no. >> you're concerned the public wouldn't support what you did. >> what i'm saying is, that i'm going to act because it's the right thing for the country. but it's going to be more sustainable and more effective if the public understands what the facts are on immigration, what we've done on unaccompanied children and why it's necessary. >> later this morning on "news 4 today," moderator chuck todd will be here to talk more about his exclusive interview with the president and we'll see how he's feeling just before he hosts his first sunday as the new moderator of "meet the press." >> right now a triathlon is tying up traffic in d.c.

take a look here. a live look, lots of roads closed off for the event including here on independence avenue along the national mall. see bikers making their way through. now it's not just by the mall where roads are closed. parts of the 14th street bridge, rock creek parkway, ohio drive, all going to be shut down until this afternoon. now overnight, we learned that all that heavy rain across the region, it ended up dumping some sewage into the potomac so the swimming portion of the triathlon is not going to happen today. too bad because this was the only time all year you could legally swim in that part of the river. you can get by on the beltway after police shut it down earlier. the new information detectives are telling us about t

happened around 3:00 at the inner loop. all the lanes are back open right now. meanwhile, the name of the victim has not been released. this morning, investigators trying to determine what caused a crash that killed two people in the district. looking at cell phone video we got our hands on. it's of a garbage truck and car that crashed on the ana costa freeway yesterday morning. investigators say that the impact so strong, take a look at this. the car nearly split in half when it hit a light pole. just horrifying pictures here. both victims were inside the car. a third passenger in the car and the driver of the truck were hurt. now to the developing ebola outbreak. the american doctor infected with the deadly virus has visited with two of his family members. dr. rick sacra is treated at the nebraska medical center. yesterday he got to see his wife

and son by video chat since arooifrg riving in the u.s. the hospital says his condition hasn't changed since arriving friday but in stable condition. he's the third american aide worker to be sickened with the virus. an annual golf outing fund raider in our area takes on new urgency tomorrow because of the ebola crisis. proceeds from the tournament will go to a chantilly based charity leading efforts to fight the spread of ebola in sierra leone. the charity children worldwide is working with mercy hospital to specifically focus on children who are affected by the virus. the organization calls the golf tournament a win for both the charity and the businesses that participate. >> sometimes businesses will put together teams, they'll invite their colleagues. other times we've seen local businesses put together a team and invite clients because it's a great opportunity to spend some time with clients and again, just help people

a central california high school student was arrested for make threats to shoot up a rival school. police say the threats happened over social media. the 16-year-old is behind bars right now for making terrorist threats. a 9-year-old boy took this bus for a joy ride in canada. police say the boy boarded the empty bus at a maintenance garage. they say they drove it for two blocks hitting a truck and another bus before stopping it at a curb. a witness saw all of this happen. >> i just thought follow the bus and try to stop it.

nobody else seemed like they were going to do anything. >> nobody was hurt. police say the boy is too young to be charged. he was taken home. >> we are going to have a close call with an asteroid today. the size of a house moving at tens of thousands of miles an hour and ten times closer than the moon is. miguel almaguer tells us why you shouldn't be worried. >> reporter: this was the sonic blast that made headlines around the world. a 65-foot meteor slicing across the sky in siberia last year causing widespread damage and injury. now an asteroid even bigger and nicknamed pit bull will whiz past planet earth again. >> any time somebody says there's an object from space coming close to earth everybody sort of gets a little uneasy. >> reporter: astronomer ed kreps says there's no chance the

asteroid will slam into us. >> it is on the cosmic scale coming fairly close to us but not close enough to do any damage. >> reporter: how close? from the earth's surface the asteroid, the size of a house, will fly by us 25,000 miles away. ten times closer than the moon. catapulting at a speed of 40,000 miles an hour. >> i'm not worried about it. >> yeah. >> we're not really worried about it. >> at the griffith observatory in los angeles. >> i feel safe. hopefully. >> reporter: no alarm bells, just yet. >> concerned. a little bit. scared, not much. >> reporter: when the asteroid passes over sunday it will be the middle of the afternoon. even with a high powered telescope you won't be able to see it with the naked eye but you can watch it hurl past earth on line. >> it's the size of texa mr. president. >> reporter: the flyby, not

right now hundreds are walking to shine the light on suicide prevention. the out of the darkness community walk is going on in fairfax. news 4's northern virginia reporter david cullver is live there. >> you can hear the crowd behind me in fairfax corner. this is where i was born and raised. we've got about 700 walkers, 200 coming more. we are going to be close to 1,000 walkers today. all about awareness and prevention. these folks here, these folks are incredible. they have raised just in fairfax alone, $105,000. to prevent suicides in the northern virginia, d.c. and maryland area. we've got awareness, education, prevention, that's why we're doing this. that's why they're raise raising

how did two children from the same home end up dead overnight in prime ministernce county. that's the question police are trying to answer. >> derrick ward joins us live from the home on forest road in cheverly. what have you learned? >> well, good morning. this all started at about 2:13 this morning in this house you

see behind me in the 6200 block of forest road. it started out as a medical call to prince george's fire. for unresponsive people. when they got here, they found two children unresponsive. prince george's police were called in to assist both of those children were taken to the hospital, both have subsequently died. now police aren't releasing information about the ages of the children or the circumstances of their deaths, only to say this is does not appear to be random act. this is sending a wave of shock through the neighborhood as we hear from one neighbor. >> i'm very surprised as a mother, i'm just shocked. i kind of -- i can't believe this happened. it's very hard to comprehend. >> reporter: now this is a neighborhood of long-time resident. i've spoke to a resident who lived here 40 years and there's never been anything like this. we're not far from the county executive's house and the home of the former states attorney glen ivy.

from that. well this is why fairfax county's orchestra decided to move its free family concert to today. so it's going to begin at 5:30 this evening at the angelika film center. the orchestra is performing to the 1915 silent movie adaptation of "alice in wonderland." >> joan rivers' family will lay her to rest. we received this video overnight of melissa rivers returning to her mother's manhattan apartment. she and her son stopped to reflect on the tribute from fans to the comedian outside. earlier in the day, rivers' body was cremated. rivers' star on the walk of fame also has a growing tribute around it as fans remember her. take a look now. you can see it here. her funeral will take place in just ability an hour and a half at 11:00. it will be a private service at her synagogue in manhattan. the comedian was 81 years old

when she died. >> florida mother upset with how school leaders punished her daughter for a dress code violation. the mother said her daughter wore a suit of shame. >> first impressions, you know. they're really important and i had a really bad one. >> reporter: when 15-year-old miranda went to school in this black skirt she says she didn't know she was in violation of oak leaf high school's dress code. >> she pointed at me from across the hall. your skirt is too shirt. >> reporter: the teacher sent her to the nurse who told her she had to put on this outfit, neon yellow t-shirt and bright sweatpants written were the words dress code violation. larkin moved to clay county from seattle and on her third day at a new school. >> she put on the outside in theback bathe room and looked and broke down. she started sobbing. she broke out in hives. >> reporter: a spokesperson from the clay county school district says students who violate the dress code are given the option

to stay in their clothes and go to inschool suspension, wear the sweats and t-shirt as punishment and go to class or arrange for someone to bring them other clothes. larkin says she was only given one option. >> i feel by putting a kid in an outfit that says what they did wrong, across their chest and down their leg, is taking their private records and making them public and clear violation of their privacy rights. >> reporter: larkin was able to leave school early and not face suspension but her mother says the outfit she calls a shame suit violated her daughters rights and says she's filing a complaint with the family educational rights and privacy act, for making her daughter's discipline public. >> well that was michele kisska reporting. the school district says the intent is to get students back to class as quickly as possible and an attorney for the school board says the punishment is not a violation because it does not go on the student's record. sgloots week ahead, former

presidents bill clinton and george bush will be back in washington to announce their partnership. four presidential centers including their own are launching a new leadership scholars program. the programs will motivate leaders from different industries to help administration officials develop ideas and national programs. the former presidents will unveil the program tomorrow morning at the newseum in northwest d.c. >> tomorrow virginia governor terry mcauliffe is expected to lay out his plan to increase health care coverage to the poor and commonwealth. over the summer the governor ordered the secretary of health and human resources to come up with options to expand coverage to low income virginians. mcauliffe tried to expand medicaid during the session. the state republicans blocked that move. >> the president will hold a moment of sighs lens thursday to remember september 11th, 2001. white house staff will join president obama and the first lady on the south lawn of the

it's being called an unpatriot policy in fairfax. according to the "washington post" police officers are no longer allowed to wear american flag patches on their ballistic vest. the police department says they're trying to create some guidelines for what officers can display. the department says right now, name tags are the only approved patches to be worn on the velcro, but that could change in
