getting out of one of metro's stations will take a long longer. in three weeks they will start to replace three of the stations in the bethesda station. the massive project is expected to take two years to complete. in the meantime, only one escalator going up and one going down will be working. for safety reasons, most of the

work will be done overnight. in the day ahead, we expect to get a progress report on the troubled silver spring transit center. the montgomery county council will talk about the up specter general's report on the project management. just last week news4 took an inside look at the transit center and the fixes being made. we learned some parts of the building that were supposed to be strengthened were not. we still do not know when the building will open. it is now time to take a look at the forecast. much more fall-like weather settling in. a touch warmer today. how about the rest of the day? storm team 4 meteorologist tom kierein, what do you say in weather and traffic on the 1s at 4:41? we have some clouds passing over the metro area producing light rain just moving into the eastern shore near easton and north of cambridge. we don't have any rain now with temperatures on the cool side near 60 in prince george's and montgomery and fairfax counties and much of northern virginia and the rest of the region.

15 before the hour right now. we continue our special coverage this morning one year after the navy yard shooting. we are honoring the 12 lives lost here in just a few hours. good morning, everyone, i'm aaron gilchrist outside the navy yard. there were so many acts of heroism here one year ago today. there were police officers who rushed into the navy yard not knowing exactly what they were going to find when they got there. the u.s. park police heard the

call and one of them jumped in his car to meet up with jennifer bennett who was shot here on the grounds. we'll hear from officer matt cooney in his own words. >> we weren't sure where we were going. we came down and saw mtv officials directing officers where to go. so people were taking cover near building 197. and he directed us to an officer that was by himself and said, the three of you, you are on our team and go. there's the door. as we were on the first floor in the atrium area, we could hear that he was up on the third floor, so we were brought that way. i found myself with a team on the roof, because we thought alexis was up there at the time. and checked the roof, he's not there, thank goodness, but there we have four civilians, including miss bennett. and i called the helicopter

shooting rampage. as one widow remembers, she's sharing how her husband's love is giving her the strength to go on. >> i think i've reached my rite of passage, that i know he's with me every day. i talk to him every day. and i know he's here and i know he loved me with all his heart and soul. and a lot of people never have in their life what i had. >> and that is judy johnson speaking about her husband, john edwar edwards johnson. judy didn't know what was happening until a friend called to ask about him and later that night she received a phone call to break her heart. she said the days and weeks following her husband's death brought grief, pain and anxiety. she couldn't leave her house, she couldn't eat or sleep. >> and i just started screaming

closing the doors for good at 6:00 this morning. trump plaza is the fourth atlantic city hotel and casino to close this year. more than 900 employees are affected by this shutdown. overall, nearly 8,000 casino workers have lost their jobs in atlantic city this summer. tough times there. it is now 4:51 and time to take a look at the forecast. tom is here now with what has been such a nice stretch of weather. tom, this is great. >> yeah, autumn seems to have arrived. >> yeah. it's still kind of warm in the afternoon, which i like. >> it's been gorgeous. it's going to be like that again today. this morning it's a little different with a few scattered showers rolling in. right now getting those in the mountains of west virginia way west of the metro area. they are tracking east maybe into the shenandoah valley between 6:00 and 8:00. maybe a little after that tracking into the metro area, but the general trend is they will be breaking up as they move off to the east. right now getting just a few showers on the eastern shore now

near kent island. those are tracking off to the east. there's the sky over washington. 66 at reagan national. the dew point is a key number here up to 61. so it's a little more humid. the dew points are in the low 50s the last couple of days, it has been in the 40s with it really dry. temperatures are on the cool side. not as chilly as yesterday morning. we were in the 50s for most of virginia and maryland and west virginia. closer suburbs are right around the low 60s. the mid-60s near the bay and on the eastern shore. for the commuters this morning, you'll need long sleeves between now and 8:00 because it's only in the low 60s with a few scattered clouds around. and between 8:00 and 10:00 is when you might need an umbrella with a few sprinkles coming through. by then, we'll climb into the upper 60s. here's your forecast for the afternoon. beautiful into the upper 70s. and then we'll have lots of sunshine. then tomorrow, lower humidity returns. gorgeous day. highs reaching the mid-70s with lots of sun. then on thursday, a beautiful day, partly cloudy, 50s in the

welcome back at 4:57. today marks one year since the shootings at the navy yard. these are live pictures at the front gate this morning with a ceremony honoring the 12 victims of the tragedy will take place later this morning. aaron gilchrist is live at the navy yard to join us with a look at the day's events in a few minutes at 5:00 a.m. right now police need your help to find a missing university of virginia student from fairfax county. friends say hannah graham wouldn't just disappear. she was last seen in the early hours of saturday morning. a former high school teacher say this is is out of character for graham. >> it's really disturbing because hannah's not the kind of kid that would just go on a road trip and disappear. i mean, she was very diligent with everything she did. and always did everything

exactly by the book. >> her parents have left their alexandria home to look for her in charlottesville. anyone with information is asked to call charlottesville police. as the nfl attempts to prepare its image following the ray rice scandal, another playered arian peterson is being investigated for abusing another one of his sons. the running back denies the report saying the allegation is more than a year old and police never took action. peterson released a statement yesterday saying he is not a child abuser and did not intend to hurt his son. he will appear in court next month. excuse me, we are learning of the first sponsor to drop out of the peterson controversy. the rutherford campaign said they are suspending the minnesota vikings. the decision comes from radisson

after the team has decided to allow peterson to play next week. "the washington post" reports planners have to redesign the entire 11.4 mile section of the silver line stretching from the wiehle avenue station to route 772. that includes the stop at dulles. they have to accommodate new state and federal regulations regarding storm water treatments. the design changes could add $5.6 billion to the project. all right. heads-up, you may see tech cars on the 95 express lanes in northern virginia even though the lanes are not open to the public yet. they are testing sensor technology they say will keep the lanes free-flowing. the toll prices will change based on demand and traffic flow. once the 95 express lanes are open, you will need an ez pass
