sheriff's deputies there say 51-year-old don spirit shot and killed his daughter and her six children. those kids range in age from three months to 10 years old. spirit then called 911, waited until deputies arrived and then shot himself. investigators say some people at the house were left alive. bell, where they lived is a town of only 350 people. we'll have the latest on all this tomorrow morning on news 4 today beginning at 4:26. an outdoor amphitheater wasa the university of virginia was packed with students tonight, thousands of them hoping and praying for the safe return of hanna graham. she was 18 years old -- is 18 years old, senate been seen since early saturday morning. david carr has our report. >> despite the many questions that remain in the disappearance of hanna graham, tonight her fellow students are holding out home she'll be found safe.

alexandria section of fairfax county, it was also streamed online. police in charlottesville say the man seen with graham on this surveillance video, just before she was last seen is cooperating. he claims another man acted as though he knew graham, approached her moments after this video was taken and put his arm around her. police say, they would like to speak with that man. you can get all the latest about this investigation and all the surveillance video that's been released. go to our website, nbc washington.com. a report detailing the disappearance of relisha rudd and the weeks that lead up to that disappearance, will get a second look tomorrow. d.c. council member jim graham is holding a hearing on that report. he has grave concerns about the findings. the council has been critical in the report for being lenient

with the agents that interacted with rudd's family before she went missing. that was more than six months ago. tonight, members of congress are going home until after election day. the u.s. senate before they left passed president obama's plan to fight isis by arming and training syrian rebels. the vote came hours after a deadly isis plot was broken up in australia. >> reporter: an isis suspect far from iraq in australia. sydney, industrial. police are holding six people who got orders from a senior isis leader to behead random australia. >> to conduct demonstration killings here in this country. >> reporter: the u.s. faces that danger, say federal officials. >> that americans will take u.s. passports after fighting with isis, after training with isis, to come back and commit unspeakable acts of terror here at home. >> reporter: to fight isis, the senate followed the house. >> the joint resolution is passed.

announced they will bomb isis in iraq. i'm steve handelsman, nbc news, washington. it's early morning in scotland and the votes are the independence referendum are still being counted. 4.2 million people were registered to vote and officials predicted a 90% turn-out. if scotland votes to leave the united kingdom, it would end a 307-year union. results are expected to be announced in about two hours. the polls going into election day were too close to call. a push to legalize marijuana in the district looks like it might be successful in november. an nbc 4 washington post/maris poll asked voters if they would favor legalization. nearly 2-1, they said yes. only 2% said they're undecided at this point. meanwhile, in the d.c. mayor's race, tonight was the first time all three candidates shared the

stage. tom sherwood moderated at american university tonight and chris lawrence is there now with what the candidates had to say. chris? >> well, bowser said david kit annia seems to take credit for every good thing that's ever happened in the city. he said that bowser has voted for every single one of his education proposals. and so it went as the candidates both touted their own accomplishments and aggressively went after each other. >> david kit annia accused of front-runner of not having a record to run on. >> when you ran for counsel in 1997, you promised to make education your number one priority. in seven years, you introduced a resolution with no specifics, no plan. -- >> and in seven years, mr. -- >> bowser cast him as a hot head. >> mr. kit annia wouldn't go to the baseball stadium because he was still sore after the baseball fight. and that's just kind of speaks to his temperament. >> reporter: they're trying to win over a diverse group of voters. >> i just moved to d.c. about a year ago.

there's a new effort tonight to help find a 77-year-old man who's missing in prince george's county. oswaldo mutu was last seen on maxwell drive last weekend. police say he was wearing an orange shirt, blue jeans, and black shoes. they're asking anyone with information to give them a call. developing tonight, u.s. secretary-general banky moon said the number of ebola cases is doubling every three weeks in west africa. the united nations is now asking for a billion dollars to fight the virus. the nation of sierra leone is in effect shut down. all six million people in that country, confined to their homes as that nation tries to stop the spread of ebola. volunteers are going house to house to search for victims. it's believed 2,600 people have died from ebola in recent weeks in west africa. home depot says a cyber

new tonight, a teenager has filed a lawsuit against a montgomery counsel school board. he says the board was negligent when it hired a school counsellor who lied about his qualifications. that counsellor worked in montgomery county for 12 years, and testified in a custody hearing when the boys' parents were divorced. shomari stone reports now. the boy claims the counsellor was a fraud. >> reporter: tonight ronald karp filed a lawsuit against the board of education of montgomery county on behalf of an 18-year-old man. why? carp tells me the school district employed a phony psychologist with fake credentials for 18 years. the psychologist called himself dr. david flemmer. his real name was duane flemmer.

>> if they looked into his credentials, they would have known he was using a bogus name, he wasn't a ph.d. that he forged all his documents. >> he counselled his client for years beginning when he was 8 years old. the boys' parents were going through a divorce. >> when you can walk into court and say i'm dr. david flemmer, montgomery county school psychologist. you have instant credibility. >> in 2006, the judge removed the boy from his mother and gave custody to his mother, allegedly based on dr. flemmer's testimony. in 2012, flemmer applied for a new job out of state. his new employer contacted the maryland board of professional counsellors and therapists, to check his credentials. after an investigation, the board found flemmer created a

flawedulent psychology license using an expired license number and forged signatures of people who had served as board members for the board of psychology. duane flemmer killed himself a year later. tonight in a written statement, the montgomery county school spokesperson confirms that flemmer worked for the school district from 1998 to 2010, and said, quote, we've not had the opportunity to see any legal action at this point, and do not discuss legal cases in the media. in rockville, i'm shomari stone, news 4. a reminder of the ongoing scandal in the nfl was circling above the game tonight in atlanta. the women's rights group flew a banner over the georgia dome that read "goodell must go." they want him to resign because of his handling of domestic abuse cases.

fans of the game do not agree. 57% of football fans disapprove of how the league handled domestic violence issues, but less than a third believe goodell should resign. when it comes to the child abuse charges against adrian peterson, 60% of americans said it is wrong to discipline children with a switch. however, 51% of those surveyed in the south say it's okay. williams was peterson's college roommate at oklahoma. new tonight, battle of the name of washington's football team is heating up in congress. before leaving for fall recess, three u.s. senators introduced a bill that would revoke the nfl's tax-exempt status if the league continues to promote the name. more than 300 tribesi

fredericksburg. >> the front will country to move to the south. earlier, we saw showers around southern maryland. those are now out of here and you can continue to see that front just down to the south. it's going to stay down there towards that regi, but watch out for some clouds. southern maryland, light fog, around fredericksburg, charlottesville, you could see fog tomorrow. friday looking very, very nice. a fantastic friday with temperatures a little bit warmer. future weather, rather cooler on your friday. notice the cloud cover to the south. but sunshine from washington to the north. during the day, we see a little bit more of a easterly flow, a chance of a shower, maybe a sprinkle, most likely towards the portions of the chesapeake bay, but that's really going to be about it, saturday starting off with cloud cover, maybe some light areas of fog. then saturday, we start to see summer return.

so tonight, 56 down towards fredericksburg, 61 in paut ux set river. cool start in some of those areas tomorrow. your morning commute, you may need to have the heater on in your car as you move on. something we haven't seen a lot of us, but could be there tomorrow. temperatures there around 65 degrees. that sun will be out in the afternoon. sprinkled to the east of i-95, but comfortable, 71 to 76 degrees. as we move to the next couple days, 76 on friday, 81 on saturday. 86 on sunday with a good chance of a late storm. most of us will be on the dry side, but we will see a couple of late storms as another cold front moves through. that will bring in the really cool air. 76 monday, 76 on tuesday. but notice the low temperatures. down in the lower 50s in the city. i think some areas could get down to about 40 degrees come next wednesday and thursday.
