graduated from west potomac high school. more than 1,000 volunteers showed up at uva to get instruction about today's search. the mother of morgan harrington thanked people for showing you. she was abducted and killed in 2009. she has mixed emotions about police looking to talk to one man about heannah graham's disappearance. >> it's hard. i'm glad they have an answer of someone who may be involved but i'm sad because that shows a likelihood of foul play. >> a man last seen with graham at a bar last saturday morning. list searched his apartment and towed away his car. they believe graham got in his car before she disappeared. >> reporter: the rock outside west potomac high school was painted and candles were lit around it for graham.

country. islamic militants captured them from the turkish consulate in iraq back in june. turkey, once again, opened up its borders with syria, allowing more people to escape from those islamic militants. there are more than 800,000 syrian refugees in turkey right now. france joined the fight against isis in iraq. fighter jets bombing militant targets, including a weapons and fuel depot outside of mosul. this is their first aerial mission against isis in iraq. dozens of extremist fighters were killed in this air strike. northeast pennsylvania are being warned to stay inside their homes as they search for a man suspected of killing a state trooper and hurting another one. for a second night roads were shut down in the pocono mountains as they search for eric frein. the reports of shots fired last night were not connected to the heavy police presence there.

frein is one of the fbi's top ten most wanted. police say he is armed and extremely dangerous. frein has been on the run since last week. thousands of americans are stranded in mexico, grounded by the devastation of hurricane odile. the hurricane swept through five days ago. nbc's mark potter tells us about the operation happening now to bring those americans home. >> this is what it looked like at the height of the storm. >> oh, my god! >> a luxury hotel lobby destroyed by ferocious, 125-mile-an-hour wind and rain from hurricane odile. >> the sound of an airplane going by. boom, completely gone. >> reporter: in this video taken by weather channel storm chaser, the wind pushes through doors and windows stackd with furniture. afterwards, chaos, looting. the roads impassable and

after the fight, he came out with a knife and then bear stabbed him. usherie died. two other people who were there at the time were not involved in the incident. happening today, family and friends will hold a candlelight vigil for a man killed in a hit and run crash. 26-year-old highley was killed crossing georgia avenue not far from howard university in northwest early sunday morning. the vigil will happen at 7:30 at the site of the crash on fairmont street. police are still looking for the driver. offering antibiotics for any student who came in contact with a sophomore who died of bacterial meningitis. andrea jaime died that have highly contagious disease. close friends also received antibiotics. now the school wants to make sure anyone else who had contact with her is protected as well. it's transmitted through sneezing, coughing, kissing or sharing utensils.

. happening today. it is dulles day. 16,000 people are expected to turn out to help special olympics virginia. the signature event is the annual plane pull. this year -- this is a look at last year's competition. a 5k and 10k race are happening at this hour. you are definitely going to want to give yourself extra time if you are headed over to the dulles area. organizers suggesting using the dulles airport access highway to avoid the delays. also route 28 and the greenway, they were very congested for this event last year. we'll learn from our mistakes. if you're attending the event take the silver line to the russian wheelie station and get on a shuttle to head over to dulles. >> no stations are closed on metro but you could expect long

well, right now, the maryland ironman competition is under way. one man is sharing his tough journey to compete. news 4's sports reporter jason pugh tells us about brian boyle and his amazing resilience. >> i was in a medically induced coma for over two months, on life support, brought back to life eight times from what my doctors tell me. >> july 6th, 2004. brian boyle doesn't remember the details of that day. but he does remember that it changed his life forever. >> i was going home, crossing a local intersection i have been on hundreds of times in my lifetime. when i crossed the intersection, a speeding dump truck collided d in my driver's side door and the results were catastrophic. >> brian was on the verge of giving up. that's when his parents stepped in. >> he wasn't awake. i guess he could hear us. we didn't know it at the time. that's when garth got mad.

>> he wasn't responding, you know. call today it a pep talk. it's not a pep talk. it was, brian, i need you to fight. >> the talk worked. >> keep positive and working in a negative situation and maybe i could get better. >> he will compete in the inaugural maryland iron man competition. >> it's worth it. it's what i live life for, the challenge and so forth. it's a long day. but everyone goes through the same kind of suffering. at the end of the race, the finish line, it make it is all worthwhile. i hope my story can make a positive impact and help them realize that people can accomplish a lot if they put their minds to it and people can be surprised by the level of energy and focus that they really have. the human spirit is an amazing thin
