11:01 am
47 of them overnight. the the president says the u.s. is, quote, proud to stand shoulder to shoulder with the five countries, including saudi arabia that helped carry out the 14 air strikes. >> the strength of this coalition makes it clear to the world this is not america's fight alone. above all the people and governments of the middle east rejecting isil and standing up for the peace and security that the people of the region and the world deserve. >> the president also saying the overall effort will take time. you're looking live at the pentagon where a briefing will start shortly. as for a response from isis on the overnight air strikes, nothing yet. barbara? >> thank you, angiangie. this morning the united nations began its opening session on climate change. former vice president al gore spoke to the group at the summit

11:04 am
building. you could not be near a school, bar or any establishment that serves alcohol. you could not ride on public transportation with the gun. the reason the council is forced to take some action is there was a judge that determined that d.c.'s gun law is not in accordance with what the the supreme court has said. there needs to be change to the gun laws. that's why the council is debating this. what would happen in you're in a road rage incident and someone has a gun. what happens if you're on a date and you don't know they're carrying a gun? it's all been presented here. it seems the council members don't want to pass new gun laws but they are being forced to do that. with all the restrictions discussed, this would not meet the requirement set by the court. so this is all still very much in the air. the debate has been going on for most of the morning.
