and bring her home to us. >> there's a long road ahead of us. and that includes finding hannah graham. >> tonight on major break in the search for hannah graham. the man charged with her abduction now behind bars. good evening. >> we have team coverage of the story with reporters in charlottesville and in fairfax county. we've also been making calls to the sheriff's department in galveston, texas. that's where jesse matthew just arrived at the county jail. julie carey begins our coverage in charlottesville. >> reporter: charlottesville police don't need this wanted poster anymore. tomorrow investigators will fly to galveston county, texas. there they will begin the process of bringing jesse matthew back here to face the charge of abduction. >> jesse matthew was in custody in galveston, texas. >> reporter: with that announcement the investigation into hannah graham's disappearance took a big step forward. investigators now hope to talk

to jesse matthew about where the missing uva student might be. matthew was found more than halfway across the country near galveston, texas. he had driven there in his sister's light blue nissan sentra police describe in the wanted poster. our affiliate reported someone called the sheriff's department about a suspicious person in tent. he was taken into custody. >> the hero of today is an employee, a deputy with the galveston county sheriff's office. we would like to on behalf of the fbi thank them for their very effective police work today. >> charlottesville chief tim longo said he doesn't yet know what prompted matthew to head toward texas. it was just one important development. the chief held up a new missing poster of hannah graham and announced the reward for finding

the 18-year-old just jumped to $100,000. >> this ce is nowhere near over. we have a person in custody but there is a long road ahead of us and that includes finding hannah graham. >> reporter: jesse matthew is being held in the galveston county jail. he is expected to make an appearance in court tomorrow morning. ? our team coverage continues at west potomac high school in fairfax county. news4's jackie benson was there when the teammates and classmates got the news about the arrest. >> reporter: this latest news raised the hopes of those who gathered here tonight. >> police have caught and arrested in custody mr. jesse matthew. >> reporter: word spread quickly through the crowd of hundreds which assembled in the high school. they learned the suspect in the disappearance of hannah graham, class of 2013, was in police custody. >> my thoughts are there's hope that we can find hannah now that

arrest a man in the murder of a young mother. dd conyers found her dead inside her northeast washington apartment. two of her four children were there. today the detectives announced the suspect. police are not saying whether the two knew each other. they say he shot her to death. tonight, more air strikes overseas again the terror group isis. the u.s. and its allies in the middle east are targeting militants in syria for a third day and there is no end to that in sight. five arab nations have already joined the fight. president obama will speak at the u.n. again tomorrow in new . he is rallying more support calling it death. >> the brutality of syria and iraq forces us to look into the heart of darkness.

hum humanity's future depends on us. >> they will meet on the outbreak of ebola. he will do that before he returns to washington. the trial for the accused marathon bomber will not be coming here to d.c. dzhokhar tsarnaev will stand trial in boston. the judge denied his attorney's request for a change of venue. he also delayed the start of the trial from this november to january 5th. he is accused of working with his brother to detonate two bombs at the finish line of the marathon in april 2013. three people were killed and hundreds more were hurt. surveillance video may help police make an arrest. and three murders in alexandria. according to the "washington post," a search warrant references video of a red ford escort that was seen speeding near ruth ann's home on the day she was murdered in february. that description matches the car that charles drove in march when he went to the russian embassy

and asked for asylum. he is charged in three murders. there is now a confirmed case of entero virus in maryland. a child is in the hospital with a serious respiratory infection but the department of health and hygiene is not revealing where. last week the first cases were confirmed in virginia. there are now 220 known cases in 32 states and the district. it causes wheezing, trouble breathing, sometimes a rash. children are at the most at risk for breathing problems associated with this rare virus. wash your hands, disinfect surfaces and keep sick children at home to prevent the spread of the disease. new at 11:00, police in arlington, virginia want to know who went car by car in the middle of the night stealing airbags. sometime between last night and this morning, somebody broke into at least seven vehicles

along south sixth street just a few feet from ft. myer. each of those cars is now missing its driver side airbag. the insurance experts tell us each one of those bags could go for as much as $200 on the black market and would cost about $1,000 to replace. starting next week, dozens of d.c. police officers will hit the streets armed with cameras that will record their every move. they are so small they can be attached to sunglasses or a shirt collar. it is part of a six-month pilot program. it will document police activity, aid in investigations and cut down on complaints against the officers themselves. >> this gives us that independent unbiased witness that will help us kind of sort through what is normal in a police investigation of a variety of opinions from a variety of different people. >> the police union says it supports the use of these cameras. meanwhile a new shipment of the body cams arrived at the laurel

police department today. officers started wearing the cameras in the spring. the department has 32 of them. a developing story, the deadly police shooting of a black man in a walmart store in ohio. today a special grand jury decided not to indict the police officers. surveillance video shows the officers in that store before they shot john crawford last month. officers were told that he had a gun and was pointing it at people. crawford had an air rifle but is not seen on the video aiming it at anyone. police say he failed to follow their instructions. more protests in ferguson, missouri, over the police shooting of an unarmed teenager. a grand jury may not rule on whether to charge officer darren wilson until november. wilson shot and killed michael brown in august. last night, fire burned a memorial for brown and officers claimed looters tried to hit

grand jury cleared nascar driver tony stewart in the death on the track of a fellow driver. kevin ward jr. died back in august after he got out of his car in what looked like an attempt to confront stewart on the track. stewart was still driving at the time and ran over the 20-year-old. a toxicology report shows ward had enough marijuana in his system at the time to, quote, impair judgment. it's a plan to light up a local high school football stadium giving students the chance to play at night. the community met only the to air their concerns ahead of the school board decision on this. but not everyone is for it. in fact, it is getting more heated than the game itself. chris lawrence has more. >> reporter: the game at t.c. williams are nothing compared to the fight over lighting up this field. >> it will destroy my property value. >> reporter: she says the back of her home is less than ten feet from the track. she remembers the one night game played here a few years back. >> inside my living room, i

could read a book by the lights of that stadium. that was nothing compared to this. >> reporter: they are considering building 80 and 90-foot towers to light the field. it goes against an agreement they made with neighbors 50 years ago. >> the city did promise not to build lights at the stadium. >> it is time to reexamine that policy. time have changed. our needs have changed. >> margaret williams had one daughter graduate from there. >> it is unreasonable to think neighbors can live in a city next to a school of almost 3,000 and avoid the lights and activity and noise that accompany a school. >> students say it makes scheduling difficult. because t.c. william is the only public high school in northern virginia without lights. and the senior quarterback says the titans are forced to play on saturday afternoons. >> friday night lights is what makes high school football

special. >> reporter: the city estimates it only used the lights 40 nights a year. neighbors don't believe it. after hearing all concerns, the school board is nearly ready to make its recommendation heard. in alexandria, chris lawrence, news4. >> the football coach says the intention was good but an attempt to protect its players from a staph infection, had some of them covered in chemical burns. matthew robinson attends spring brook high and was hospitalized for three days. it turns out somebody had sprayed the team's quilt with a powerful disinfectant not knowing it was only meant to be used on hard surfaces. >> heart breaking to see my child in the hospital on his 16th birthday, crying out in pain as his wounds were being clean. >> he will have to sit out the rest of the football season. big changes for the metro. the head of the agency has

announced he is retiring. his announcement shocked some of the board members. he revealed he'll be stepping down in january. charles has been in charge since 2009. he's worked through fare hikes, extensive delays. he said things are better now than when he started. metro will launch a nationwide search to replace him. charles said he is ready to spend more time with his family. new number show it is going strong. metro released an updated release of ridership on the silver line. less than two months after it open, 15,000 riders are entering every weekday. metro says it is well on its way to hitting the projected goal of $25,000 riders each day after one year. >> i think we can forecast a slow commute. >> if you're thinking about taking metro in, that's probably

the way it will go. the roads will be a mess. you know how it gets when we have any kind of rain, slow or even clouds. the beltway? not the best place to be. take a look outside. we have the wind blowing out of the northeast at aut 15 miles per hour in some locations. the rain still coming down too. tomorrow will be a fairly nasty day. at least early. currently we're sitting at 67 degrees. the winds at 13 miles an hour. the airport reporting some light rain and that's what we're seeing. we have the flood watch into early tomorrow morning. fairfax county, prince george's, the district, arlington, even arundel. i'm not too worried about flooding. i don't think it will be a huge concern but we could see some early tomorrow morning. that will be around 4:00, 5:00, 6:00. so tune in. tom will have the latest at 4:26 in the a.m. the rain is back toward the

west. hagerstown right down i-81 toward the winchester area. really focusing along the blue ridge. also seeing that rain around the beltway. you can see it toward bethes d.a. back toward fairfax. then even some light showers along 301. the storm system is on the coast. there's not a lot going on. over toward fredericksburg and, we're watching that low pressure get a little more developed. we'll start to see a little more of that northeasterly win. the stronger that win, the more it comes off the atlantic. that's why we think we'll see some rain. even at 7:00 a.m., just about everybody seeing some shower activity. it will be light to moderate rain. it could be steady so you'll need the umbrella when you step out the door. how about noon? the clouds are still here. the breeze is still here.

it is still rather chilly. high temperature only in the 60s and we have some chances for rain even during that noon hour. so not the best day. we will start to clear late tomorrow evening. but your thursday could be a little bit of a washout. 67 for a high temperature. 69 in the d.c. area. it could be the first time in a while that highs remain in the 60s. with that breeze, 15 to maybe 20-mile-per-hour, it will feel cooler. what to wear tomorrow. especially for the kids at the bus stop, she has the right idea. jacket, long sleeves, the glashs, just about everything. that umbrella may be a little too big for her. but get the umbrella. you will need it. at least early. here's the great news. only one day with rain. then we get really nice. a fantastic friday. the weekend looks fantastic. 81 on saturday. 83 on sunday. so we dry out. very, very quickly. the next best chance of rain comes tuesday into wednesday. right now the best days of the week happen to be during the
