oh, and we definitely didn't need so many government studies. news 4 today begins with breaking news. >> we begin with breaking news in prince george's county. part of the outer loop of the beltway is shut down right now at suitland parkway. this is a live look at the beltway. only one lane as you can see getting by right now. a maryland state police car was involved in a crash with two other cars. this happened around 2:00 a.m. at the suitland parkway. one car flipped over. we're working to find out what led to the crash and the condition of the officer and other drivers. we'll bring you updates as soon as we get them. good morning. welcome to "news 4 today." it is sunday, september 28th. some of us have some fog out there to deal with this early sund.

storm team 4 meteorologist chuck bell has the very latest. good morning, chuck. >> good morning. it's indeed a beautiful morng outside. a little patchy fog in some of the rural areas, especially out towards the shenandoah valley. not any big impact on sunday outside of the fact that it feels a little like summer out there. here's a che from our tower looking over downtown washington. you can see the u.s. capitol building. starting to get a hint of the fog layer trying to form inside the urban centers. just warm enough you don't have to worry about it. rural areas, patchy fog can be found. radar shows nothing to worry about as far as a rain chance for today. it will be 100% dry for your sunday. temperatures in the low 60s in washington. upper 50s along the bay. low 50s, upper 40s on the map toward cull pepper and manassas. through the day a cool start this morning. abundant sunshine today. another warm one. low to mid 80s for highs today.

next little chance for rain is coming up soon. we'll talk about that, show you the seven day in a few minut. >> new this morning, one person was hurt at six flags america during the first night of the theme park's annual fright fest. it happened during a fight in the parking lot. take a look, you can see the police tape up outside the park. prince george's police would only confirm there was a large crowd that caused the traffic problem in the area. however, we reached out to six flags who told us that one person was hurt. they added "reports of a massive fight or other serious injuries are completely inaccurate. the safety of our guests is our top priority new this morning we're learning a police officer in ferguson, missouri, has been shot. the officer was hit in the arm and is expected to be okay. the incident took place near the area where people had been protesting the michael brown shooting. circumstances surrounding the shooting are unclear and police don't have any suspects. tensions have been high between

police and the community since an unarmed black teenager was shot and killed by an officer in august. everyone from students to investigators is reacting to the tragic crash that killed four college softball players. this morning ntsb is investigating how a tractor-trailer drifted across the median and slammed into their bus in oklahoma as the students returned to north central texas college. more than a dozen people are recovering today. the four girls who died were all between 18 and 20 years old. >> it just broke my heart. i just couldn't believe that those girls we had just played against and prayed with after the game, some of them are not here anymore. >> our mission is to find out not only what happened, but why it happened, so that we can prevent things, tragedies like this, from happening again. >> there will be a prayer vigil at the college tonight for the players.

the school's president called this the most traumatic event in the school's 90-year history. in the week ahead, jesse matthew jr. will make his first court appearance in virginia courtroom. he was extradited back to charlottesville from galveston, texas, friday. matthew was charged with the disappearance of 18-year-old uva student hannah graham. according to police matthew was the last person seen with graham before she went missing on september 13th. he'll be in court on thursday for a bond hearing. meanwhile, hannah's friends at university of virginia are holding out hope that their classmate will be found safe. thousands of orange ribbons were passed out yesterday at the football game against kent state. before she disappeared hannah had attended every home game. orange is also her favorite color. students say by wearing the ribbons they feel like hannah is there even though police are >> and the ribbons are a really good illustration of how this affects everyone and how everyone is sort of missing

hannah together and aching for hannah together. there's so many big questions that remain unanswered. but i know that i can say that we have complete confidence in our criminal justice system. >> hannah graham was reported missing two weeks ago today. one person is dead and two others are recovering this morning after they were all shot in southeast d.c. one of the people recovering is a police officer. the shooting happened on ainger place is in southeast off 25th street. 39-year-old anthony jones died. police are looking for the shooter. the other man and the officer are both expected to be okay. right now doctors at nih are getting ready to treat someone with ebola. their patient is a doctor who was exposed to the virus in sierra leone. that person will be in a special isolation unit. the hospital says you don't have to worry about any kind of infection in our area. we're not sure exactly when treatment will begin but the doctor should be officially admitted to nih sometime today.

regional air traffic control center outside of chicago. he was trying to commit suicide. the faa has been scrambling to get things back to normal ever since. >> it's scary that one person can cripple the industry like that. >> delayed a couple of hours in chicago, flight was canceled. but the bartenders were nice. had a couple of beers. waited it out until american airlines was able to get me on >> the suspect, 36-year-old brian how ward, is still in the hospital this morning. he's been charged with destruction of aircraft or aircraft facilities. an indy car driver will be on the i-95 express lanes today. starting at 10:00, simon pajeneu will drive several test runs at more than 100 miles an hour. you won't be able to join him on the lanes then but you might see him from the other side of the guardrail. the hot lanes are expected to open early next year.

videos released by the u.s. defense department show attacks near the turkish border. turkey is not taking part in the coalition against isis. e strikes have increased in the region with the u.s.-led coalition attacking isis sites in syria. yesterday, britain began surveillance flights over iraq but no air strikes. earlier this week we caught up with senator tim kaine to find out what virginians think about u.s. actions over the terror threat. >> as i listen to virginian, they strongly agree with me that congress should have to authorize military action. with respect to the isil threat, they generally agree isil does pose a threat. i think it is important the u.s. be engaged in a military action with the nations in the region and others to combat this threat. i think most virginians agree with that notion. >> we spoke to senator cain

while he was at lake ann elementary school in reston to mark hispanic heritage month. in the past three years more than 100 people have been hit, hurt, or killed along train tracks in the d.c. area. our news 4 i-team cameras caught some trespassers pushing their luck. as scott mcfarland discovered, getting on top of busy tracks is easier than you think. >> reporter: what you're about to see is technically a crime. a crime news 4 i-team cameras captured over and ov. since september 2011, at least 107 people in virginia, maryland, and d.c. have been hurt or killed doing this. trespassing, walking on the tracks. including along these tracks in prince george's county. >> the train tracks are the fastest way to get from point a to point b on foot. by far. it's much shorter. >> reporter: walter gaffney of

glen burny knows the risk. his daughter mary. >> she literally was pinned to the front of the train. >> reporter: she was hit and killed by a csx train while walking on the tracks north of the riverdale mark station in 2012. >> my guess is she froze, it then threw her, her neck was snapped. >> reporter: a wall of photos, her art, ashes in the bedroom. >> beautiful girl, talented, smart. >> reporter: she isn't the onlin person hit or killed on tracks in recent months, bar from it. beltsville, near route 1, the bushes give way. so many people have crossed through there's an informal walking path to the . we deployed i-team cameras to see if people would cross. and they did. including this man. >> you concerned it might not be safe, walking across those tracks? >> i look both ways. >> been doing it awhile? >> yeah. >> reporter: he didn't just walk over the tracks, he drove here from out of town. he parked his truck on one side and climbed over the tracks to

shop at an auto parts store on the other. he said it was easier than driving through traffic. >> did you have any concerns the train might sneak out of nowhere and clip you? >> they can be very quiet. i have a 30% hearing loss, so i look both ways. >> reporter: within five minutes of arriving our cameras spotted trespassers climbing the tracks in riverdale, feet from where mary gaffney died. and in beltsville where this woman tried to cross in march before she got hit by a csx train, knocked out cold, broken bones, and her teeth knocked "i knew that i was running a but she didn't see a no trespassing sign or any fences. our i-team cameras and crews didn't see any trespassing signs either at any of the three locations, nor any fencing to block would-be track climbers. we asked csx why. the agency declined multiple

requests for on-camera interview, instead issuing a series of written statements saying, we do install signs and placards along the right-of-way when possible but these fixtures are frequently vandalized. the most effective means of combating trespassing is through education and awareness campaigns including public service announcements. >> see tracks, think train. >> reporter: csx has its own police force and has come in contact with 150 trespassers this year, in most cases turn those people away. in some cases arrested them. >> i say good morning to her every day. >> reporter: walter gaffney worries far more, like his daughter, are making it on the tracks anyhow. a news 4 i-team review of federal raid role administration incidents reports found the number of people hit and injured by trains in maryland and virginia is down slightly in the past year. but the number of deaths and injuries nationwide is ris this story started with a tip, so if you have something for the

hogle, who went missing with the children only saying that the children are somewhere safe. she's been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia and she hasn't told authorities where she took the kids. >> i just want my kids home. >> reporter: cit searchers are trying to establish a timeline for her whereabouts with the children. a lot of effort focuses on getting the word out and hoping information comes in, especially on the vehicles katherine hogle may have been in. >> we have fliers giving the time windows. >> reporter: maybe they were caught on some merchant's surveillance camera. >> they're very interested in looking at their video footage to see if they saw any of these cars. >> reporter: meanwhile, katherine hogle has been moved to a facility where she may be allowed visitors. troy turner hopes perhaps she may talk to him frankly about their children. >> i wouldn't mind talking to her to see if after all this time -- she said she had someone to watch them for two weeks. the two weeks is up, maybe it's time for daddy to pick them up this morning we're learning

how the secret service dropped the ball during a 2011 shooting at the white house. according to the "washington post," it took the secret service five days to realize that shots had hit the residence. a housekeeper noticed broken glass and a chunk of cement on the floor. this is the first detailed account of the incident on record. oscar ortega hernandez was arrested and charged with attempted assassination. the president and first lady were not home at the time. a new warning about anterra virus, right now causing serious symptoms for children. the disease develops like a bad cold, however, four kids in colorado developed polio-like symptoms too. >> some of these kids i think are having some weakness and some it progressed to paralysis. >> the cdc says hundreds of children have the virus today, including some in virginia and maryland. doctors say you should check

your kids for extreme trouble breathing, severe coughing, as well as wheezing, fever and rash. those symptoms can be related to the antero virus. in the week ahead the attempted capital murder trial will begin against bashir, accused of shooting and wounding an alexandra police officer in old town, ruled competent to stand trial. according to court documents, bashir shot officer peter lebeau in the head during a traffic stop. lebeau survived with a traumatic brain injury and has had to relearn how to speak and walk. the d.c. street cars start running tomorrow. but without any passengers. the simulated service will run the same route and the same hours. you can take one once service begins for real, expected to . you'll see lots of road work on the southeast-southwest freeway this week. monday, wednesday, and thursday

it threw me for a loop. i became very withdrawn and once i hit high school, that's when the depression really hit hard. >> reporter: teague was born a female. but he says, inside, he felt like a man. >> do i really want to spend the rest of my life living like this? or do i want to look deeper into myself and figure out, hey, this might be me, i might not be a woman, i'm a guy. >> reporter: and that inner struggle led to self-harm and even a few suicide attempts. experts say that's not really unusual. let's bean, gay, bisexual, and transgender individuals have higher rates of suicide and depression, especially among teens whose rate of attempted suicide is four times higher than others their own age. >> there really is a significant foundation in fear. fear of losing relationships. fear of disclosure, job loss. >> reporter: steve is director of behavioral health for the
