northeast but without any passengers inside. megan, good morning. >> reporter: well, good morning, eun. yeah, this is the first dry run we will see in just a couple of hours. we're on benning street. the street car tracks are imbedded in the roadway there. across the other sigh, that is the trolley lot. the flashing lights is the first in the cue. it will leave at 6:00 this morning. the trolleys will run normal hours and schedules today. they just will not have passengers. the trolleys will run a 2.4 mile stretch on benning and h streets. they will run every 10 minutes. if you travel through those areas expect to share the radio, the area with these trolleys. the h street car, keep in mind, it will not have a dedicated lane like we see here on benning road. what does that mean?

the trolleys will be sharing the road with cars and bikes. they the can't veer to get around cars. so you cannot park along those areas along h street so the trolley can get through. you have to have an open lane there. they will be ticketing and, more importantly, they will be towing in that area. of course there will be a learning curve with all of this. it's all very new. keep in mind if you travel through the routes there might be a little bit of confusion. we are expect to go see the first trolley leave this lot at 6:00 this morning. megan, thank you. a new effort kicks off to make sure you and your family are safe around those street cars. it is called look, listen, be chef safe. it includes presentations for schools around h street. teachers will receive tool kits to keep the conversation going about safety. if you think you have been paying more money to take cash
