new at 11 tonight, a plane headed to blom made an emergency landing in texas after circling the airport for more than two hours. it was an american airlines jet that took off this evening from the dallas, f. worth area, but the pilot declared an emergency after equipment malfunctioned. the plane had to circle the airport to burn off fuel in order to land safely. the passengers are now on another plane. a bombshell revelation today from police. they say forensic evidence links the suspect in hannah graham's disappearance to the 2009 murder of another college student, morgan harrington. jim hanley is here to sort out all these new developments. >> what's unclear at this point is what that evidence is. but investigators do confirm tonight that three cases spanning nearly a decade now appear to be connected to one man -- jesse matthew, the prime

suspect in the disappearance of hannah graham. we actually learned of the link through morgan harrington's parents. police told them it was evidence from his home and car that linked him to harrington's disappearance and death in 2009. harrington's mother says the connection to her daughter's case brings but only so much. >> it doesn't change a lot for us, in some ways, our bedroom is still empty upstairs.t g to hav grandchildren, the wedding, those things. >> the connection to harrington's case, also connects matthew to a rape in fairfax county in 2005. in that case a woman was dragged from a sidewalk into the woods and assaulted. the victim says her attacker ran away after being startled by another person. now even as these new details were released, the search continues for hannah graham, a team of 15 to 20 team scoured trails in rural alb moral

county. still nothing has been found. an online campaign to raise a legal defense fund for jesse matthew has been shut down tonight. friends had started the evidence on a funding site saturday. it had raised nearly $2,000, but was shuttered over threats posted in the page. the creator said someone threatened both him and his children. and matthew also had support in charlottesville. this woman was on the downtown mall in charlottesville today saying he is minute until proven guilty. >> tomorrow morning matt lauer will speak exclusively with morgan harrington's parents on the "today" show and get the laten the investigation on news 4 today when you wake up. he apparently was trying to break up a group of protesters outside. darcy spencer has new reaction from one of those protesters tonight. darcy? >> well, it's very quiet here outside the ethiopian embassy here, much different than earlier today with that shooting and chaos. tonight i did speak to a witness who says the protesters were not a threat. >> were you frightened? >> yes, frightened. >> shamalis was among the dozen protesters at the ethiopian embassy when a security there began firing from a handgun. [ shouting ] >> we saw the gun on his hand, but he was still shooting. >> he says the protesters were there to get answers. why he says the ethiopian government is killing citizens, jailing journalists. >> but do you think that the security guy could have felt like he was in danger of being attacked? >> no.

how could he? we don't attack. >> incredibly, no one was hit. one of the shots went through a windshield. another may have hit a tree. secret service agents climbed the tree looking for evidence. the man who worked with an ethiopian media outlet said the guard told him protesters were attack and he had to defend himself. >> he was defending himself? >> exactly. they were inside the embassy. if they come to my house, what do you do? >> this was not the first time there have been protests there, and he said, despite the shooting, it won't be the last. >> it never stop, because when our family, our relatives, our citizens are killed, how could you sleep? it don't give you peace. >> the u.s. secret service issued a statement earlier today saying this gunman had been detained. it does not appear that the gunman was in fact arrested. we don't know if he'll face

walmart is responding to a lawsuit filed by comedian tracy morgan cr injuries he wasn't wearing his seat belt. morgan was critically hurt when a walmart truck slammed into a limousine he was riding in back in june. another comedian died and several others were hurt. the driver commuted from his home in georgia to work in delaware before starting his route. he has pleaded not guilty. a father in maryland is pleading with the goo an amber alert to find his missing children. it's been three weeks now since anyone has seen them. investigators say the last person with them was their

point and the actual temperature you have potential for fog. 64 degrees in leesburg, 64 in huntington. annapolis, 68 degrees. fredericksburg, 65 degrees. not much oe radar right now, we have showers off to the east, towards the eastern shore, out towards salisbury, extreme southern st. mary's county, but the rest of us are on the dry side. we saw some rain today into northern virginia and into southern maryland. those are the places, i think have the best chance to see some rain -- or rather some fog. the clouds continue to move out, that's the higher level clouds. i think by tomorrow afternoon, this is the air we'll get into. it's drier and we'll see some sunshine during the day tomorrow. future weather wise, we start tomorrow 8:00 a.m. and notice what's going on, the cloud cover east of the blue ridge. that's not cloud. that's going to be fog. could be dense fog early

tomorrow morning, around 10, 11:00, i expect it to break up. in the afternoon, a few showers, mostly back towards the blue ridge where we did see some sunshine early, where we had fog, not too worried about the showers, but can't rule out a stray shower or two, but for the most part, trying to keep it out of the forecast. a better chance of showers during the day on wednesday. that's all going to be, shower activity, not much of a rain event at all. tomorrow, fog early, give yourself extra time. partly cloudy, warmer conditions tomorrow. high temperatures up to 79 degrees tomorrow in the city. 77 on your wednesday, 40% chance of showers. 75 on thursday, 77 on friday. and again, i do expect to see some showers, maybe thunderstorms on friday. especially late in the afternoon. and look at the weekend right now, much, much cooler. high temperatures only around 70 but that's in the city. most of you will stay in the 60s all day long and that's with plenty of sunshine, so fall weather making its way in here
