doctors say she's improving. they have managed to avoid surgery on him so far. we also learned the fight was so serious police issued an officer's ino hu o officers responded to the scene. 4:30 is the time right now. waking up to 66 degrees here. >> let's check in with tom kierein to find out what kind of day we'll have today. good morning. good morning. here's a live look from the capitol camera early tuesday morning. there's a little bit of fog being illuminated by the spotlights on the capitol this morning. so watch out. we'll have this morning fog with us for another few hours. mild afternoon coming up. and a chance of a few scattered showers mainly west of the metro area during the afternoon and perhaps into the evening hours. right now temperatures are fairly mild. we're in the low to mid-60s around the metro area including prince george's, montgomery and fairfax county. mid-60s in washington and around the way.

right now temperatures are in the mid to upper 50s in shenandoah valley. visibilities at the minimum are down to a quarter of a mile. so we'll look for students waiting for buses this morning in the mid-60s between now and 8:00. and maybe a little sunshine breaking out from time to time as well. between 8:00 to 9:00, most of the fog should be gone. by then temperatures into the upper 60s. coming up next weather and traffic on the 1s, a look at the forecast for the rest of the someday hour-by-hour and the warming on the way. we'll check on road conditions now with melissa. what's going on? we are looking good as we should at 4:30. taking a look at prince george's county, everything in and out of town looking good. the inner loop, outer loop, no major problems. a little bit of construction, but we expect that this time of the day. we are moving right along at 95 in dumfries, this area gets

sketchy later on in the morning. you can see a little bit of haze here. tom talked about that possibility throughout the morning, so be careful as you hid out this morning. i'm back in ten minutes at 4:41 with a live look at 95 in maryland. 4:32. today the director of the secret service will face a lot of questions in a hearing on capitol hill including a new report that says the man who made it into the white house this month went a lot farther than we were originally told. nbc's tracie potts is live on capitol hill to tell us more with stunning developments, tracey. >> reporter: we'll hear more about that today on the hill, good morning. what "the washington post" reported is that the man who jumped the fence, crossed the line and went into the unlocked door got all the way to the east room before the secret service stopped him. that's certain to be a question for juliet peterson who shows up at a cop depressional hearing in

a few hours at 10:00 a.m. lawmakers want to know how he was able to get so far into the white house. the president wasn't there as you know at the time, but certainly a concern. there were back-to-back security breaches that weekend. and also they will likely question her about the 2011 report also in "the post" when shots were fired and ended up hitting the white house red den residence. one of the daughters and the grandmother were home at the time, the president was not, but the issue there is it took four days for the secret service to figure out what happened. initially they thought a truck backfired and called off agents. then said it was a gang shoot-out nearby. four days later they confirmed that shots had actually hit the residence of the white house. it was a day after that there was an arrest. so why the incidents were happening, why there was confusion apparently at the top

according to that report is part of what she'll be asked about at the hearing today. >> tracie potts live on capitol hill for us, thank you. omar gonzalez is in jail right now. after this incident they stepped up security around the white house. you may not see most of it except the second fence outside the north lawn. we are told the extra fence is only temporary while the agency reviews what happened. baltimore-bound passengers on american airlines flight 1654 back home this morning after an exhausting day of travel. a blown tire caused that flight to circle for hours about a dallas, texas, airport yesterday evening before it landed. this morning we are hearing from a passenger aboard the plane before the tire blew. >> the passengers are relieved to be on the ground but frustrated with their flight delayed four hours. the plane having to circle endlessly about dfw at the dallas airport to burn off fuel before it was able to land even though it did have a blown tire.

luckily, all 140 passengers on board were able to get off safely and are happy to be home. >> when the flight first took off, the plane circling around -- >> yeah, it was just kind of -- >> there you go. believed to be back on the ground here. this was an emergency landing but everyone was able to get off the runway using the stairs. the chutes were not deployed. students in maryland are on alert after a pizza delivery man was robbed at a student apartment complex on boteler lane. an armed man came up to the delivery man, showed a gun and demanded cash. the delivery man was not a student or university employee and was unharmed. police sent out the emergency alert on campus to warn students. you can go to an open house today to learn more about the

welcome back. today a major road project gets underway to help you get to redskins park. vdot will extend the loudoun county parkway to the specific boulevard. the new road will run right by redskins park and will cost $0 0 million by 2016. the d.c. council is considering a change to insurance rules that have been around for decades.

visibilities, leesburg, a quarter mile visibility in winchester, charlottesville and much of the shenandoah valley. dulles, three quarters of a mile. washington national airport and on the eastern shore, easton down to three quarter mile visibility. from the tower camera, you can see light fog here in northwest. as the morning progresses, we'll climb from the low to mid-60s where we are now to the low 70s by noontime and to the mid to upper 70s for the afternoon. quite a bit of clouds around with breaks in the clouds, a little sunshine in and out. and there's the possibility of an isolated shower mainly west of i-95 during the latter part of the afternoon and perhaps into the evening. a look at a big weekend change on the way, that's next weather and traffic on the 1s at 4:51. now melissa is looking at road conditions and if the fog is affecting the roads. we are seeing the fog on 270. i know tom is seeing a lot of it west of 95, but we are seeing spots of fog in montgomery

an amber alert for two missing children. sarah and jacob hoggle have been missing for three weeks now. their mother is in jail for abduction charges. >> i drove down 270 and for days now i have seen a black screen above my head when i drive under the electric board. how is it going to hurt to put my children's name on the board and their ages that they are missing? >> maryland state police say they did not issue an amber alert because there was never a confirmed abduction. no immediate indication that the mother would harm her children. and all vehicles in the case had been located. the governor's office said they will continue to provide support and resources necessary to the search. more testimony scheduled today in the trial of a cab driver accused of shooting an alexandria police officer.

tashik bashir was in court yesterday. the boy that was shot was left with a brain injury. attorneys for the man charged in three alexandria murders wants to hire a private investigative team and they also want to do it on the government's dime. severance moved out of jail yesterday to avoid conflict. one of his alleged victims is nancy dunning, the wife of the former sheriff there, james dunning. severance had evidence to link him to her murder as well as two others. police are working to identify a body found in hemlock overlook regional park. vre train trucks run right through the park and that caused a delay. police are not saying if it's connected to a missing 16-year-old last seen there by

the middle school in manassas. that was the sound of a gunshot fired outside the ethiopian embassy. you can see the man holding the gun. he's a security guard at the embassy and was trying to break up a group of protesters. we talked to one of the protesters who said he was surprised. >> without any gun, without any materials. we just went and asked them peacefully. >> no one was hurt but shots did hit a car windshield and nearby tree. it's not clear if the security guard has been charged with anything. i'm richard jordan at the live desk watching a developing story out of hong kong this morning. large protests continuing there helping to cripple that city. live pictures of the area right now, you can see thousands upon thousands of people there protesting. the protesters have now set a deadline for wednesday, tomorrow. they are asking the chinese

politicians to meet their demands. tomorrow is also china's national holiday. now the pro-democracy protesters have vowed to continue demonstrating asking for election reform. it's been five days now with the protesters blocking streets in downtown hong kong, ting traffic there and getting in the way of public transportation. they are demanding hong kong's chief executive create a real democracy and want him to resign. however, he's reluctant to do so. he says that negotiating with the protesters would make the government appear weak. the protesters want to make sure that future politicians, future candidates are not pre-screened. we are also expecting banks and businesses to be closed in hong kong today. again, a financial hub to take a hit from the protests. that's the latest from the live desk. >> some of the protesters are labeling this movement the umbrella revolution. you can see tens of thousands of young demonstrators holding umbrellas for a practical reason. they are using them to deflect pepper spray and tear gas deployed by local police. the u.s. officials are urging

police in hong kong to show restraint and to stop using tear gas on citizens. it's now 4:49. and just a few more days and the wait is over. playoff baseball will begin right here in washington. and you may have to take a long lunch break or skip out of work altogether to catch the first game. don't say that i told you to do that. the nats face the winner of tomorrow's giants/pirates wild card game. if the pirates win, the nats will host them at 12:07 p.m. if the giants win, the game will start at 3:07 at nats park. so excited. if there are any late playoff game this is year, you can take metro home. american university announced a special partnership with metro to keep trains running late on weekends. metro is prepared to run as late as 1:20 from navy yard. there will be in-stadium announcements during the game to keep fans in the know about how late the train will run. and they will update the train status on the twitter feed.

as far as the start time for the game, we'll turn to tom kierein, we could have a blizzard on friday and they will pack the stadium. but you were saying the start time might -- the weather may impact things depending on when the game startles. >> yeah, but it's good we could have a noon or mid-afternoon start. >> the earlier the better with the rain chances. >> absolutely. it's looking good. here's your friday forecast. the early look at weather during the afternoon for the afternoon game. if it is a noontime start, temperatures by then will be just in the low 70s. but it should be partly sunny through the game. it's a 3:00 start, we'll be there in the upper 70s. by 6:00 p.m., most of the game should be over, even if it starts at 3:00, and there's a slight chance for a shower maybe toward the end of the 3:00 p.m. game. so we'll keep you posted on that, but the timing right now looks like any rain will be coming in after that. we are dealing with some fog this morning. visibilities down to a quarter mile, martinsburg, winchesters and charlottesburg. leesburg down to three quarters

of a mile, but closer to the metro area not a lot of dense fog. around the eastern shore, moderate fog. use low beams and slow down driving over the next couple of hours as you encounter fog. watch out for deer and students waiting for buses. right now temperatures are in the 40 50s where the fog is dense. and then mid to upper 60s around the metro area. low 60s in the rural areas. and a few lingering showers from overnight now are northeast of baltimore. a few sprinkles in the lower part of the eastern shore, but that's moving out. here's the timing on the rain that may be developing later today. by mid-afternoon, we'll likely see a few showers beginning to pop up out of the mountains. some of the showers drifting east into the shenandoah valley by 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. 9:30, 10:00, a few showers around north and west. and all of this is staying west of i-95 through this evening. highs today reaching the upper 70s. and the possibility of the passing showers late afternoon and evening.

then tomorrow, might get a few showers as well. small chance. highs reaching the upper 70s. beautiful day on thursday. morning lows in the 50s. afternoon highs in the mid-70s. then on friday, that's when we'll likely have partly cloudy days with highs in the upper 70s. then a chance of showers late. looks like maybe around sunset and into friday evening that we'll have the showers coming on through. that could affect the high school football games. then on saturday, bright and sunny for the games on saturday. highs reaches the low 70s. and then 40s in the morning with afternoon highs at 60. then back to the low to mid-70s g monday. melissa is here now with the fog there on 66. yes, some of the fog tom has been talking about this morning, definitely a good warning for folks. down kind of west of 95 on 66, we are seeing some there in montgomery county. it's a little bit foggy for part of the morning. 66 at fairfax county parkway.

from speed cameras by the end of the month. but by the end of august they only generated $26 million. city officials say major cuts will be needed next year to the budget because of the shortfall. and teachers are complaining about a su shortage. the school district is reducing the amount of printers by 56%. instructors have less time to teach because they are waiting in long lines to print and copy. the district hopes to save a million dollars a year. rescue crews spent hours freeing a man trapped after a rowhouse collapse in baltimore. the man was trapped under tons of debris. investigators say he was working on the rowhouse near camden yard when the roof and walls suddenly caved in. it's not clear yet what caused the collapse. 4:57. you have a chance to grab a cup
