get to work this morning. our storm team is tracking the latest foggy conditions right now. when you can expect the weather to clear. and what police are telling us about the motive behind this incident to leave her in the hospital. good morning, everybody. 5:00 a.m. i'm aaron gilchrist. >> i'm eun yang. welcome to this tuesday, september 30th, 2014. we are dealing with fog right now. >> we'll look at the impact this fog is having on our ability to see outside. yes, we had the showers yesterday and overnight to leave the atmosphere saturated with moisture. now the showers are just northeast of baltimore and continuing to pull off to the east. a few sprinkles in the lower eastern shore, but it is very humid as a result. the visibilities have really dropped with patchy, dense fog. down to a quarter mile in a few locations mainly west and north of the metro area. right around washington, visibilities are near 2 to 5 miles. if you encounter the dense fog,

have the low beams on. driving and slow down. watch out for pedestrians this morning and for deer. they are lurking in the fog. temperatures in the mid-50s. closer to washington, we are in the 60s from the blue ridge all the way to the bay. and there is capitol hill. you can see it lit up there with the spotlight showing a little bit of light fog right in washington. we'll have morning fog with us through 8:00 or so. then a mild afternoon coming in with a chance with a few showers coming through mainly west of i-95 later this afternoon. coming up next weather and traffic on the 1s, the hour-by-hour warming for the day ahead is coming up in ten minutes. now melissa is checking on road conditions this tuesday. what's going on right now? the roadways are looking good with the exception of the fog along the stretch of 66 and a little bit in montgomery county near shady grove road on 270. 66 and 95 are looking good. no problems headed into town or out of town.

bw parkway and 95, exactly how we like to see it on your work day. they are moving right along. indian head highway at the beltway, no problems there. and 95 at 395, nice shot here. especially when you're seeing a lot of open lanes. we do have a car here, not sure if there's a disabled vehicle there, as that just popped up. remember to follow u us @first4traffic. the search continues for a person who stabbed a woman in silver spring. the montgomery county police say this happened before 8:00 at an apartment complex on piney branch road. this could be connected to a robbery attempt. police have not said what the woman's condition is but she's expected to be okay. doctors say a 15-year-old boy is improving after this weekend's huge fight at six flags. at one point they thought the boy would need surgery after being in a medically-up deud

coma. prince george's county police say a criminal investigation into the incident is now underway. a developing story right now in the fight against isis. australian authorities say they have arrested a man in melbourne today accused of giving $12,000 to a u.s. citizen fighting for the terrorist organization. the money was used to fund the citizens travel to syria. police say the two men connected on social media do not believe the man who was arrested was plotting any attacks and there's no specific threat to the public. meanwhile, syrian officials are blasting president obama saying he's been trying to warn the u.s. about the threat from isis for three years. syria's deputy foreign minister told nbc's ann curry the assad government would welcome any help from isis.

and a pizza delivery man was robbed late last night at a student apartment complex on boteler lane. the university of maryland police say an armed man came up to the delivery man, showed a gun and demanded cash. the delivery man was neither a student nor a university employee. he was unharmed. today we're expecting to learn how much money drug companies are giving to individual doctors. part of the president's health care law requires drug manufacturers to report payments and gifts to physicians. for the first time, that information has been made public. consumer groups believe the two decisions can influence prescribing decisions. the american medical association says some of the payments are for research and they say the report is dangerous because it lacks context. the american airlines is inspecting a plane after it blew a tire mid-flight. 140 passengers did not arrive in baltimore until after 1:00 a.m. this morning. they were supposed to get in at 8:55 p.m. last night.

the plane took off from dallas-ft. worth airport last night. the pilot had to circle the airport for four hours to burn off fuel. many say you could smell the burning rubber. after a few hours, passengers boarded another plane to eventually land safely to bwi marshall. several officers will be honored in the police officers quarterly award ceremony happening this afternoon. the department said a few of the reasons the officers will receive awards today including using cpr to save a toddler, finding a missing woman and arresting a suspect accused of trying to kidnap a little girl. a woman missing for days turns up alive in the trunk of a car. how some good samaritans came across her. and a mild yet foggy start for some folks on this tuesday morning. we're tracking the warm-up for the day ahead with your hour-by-hour forecast at 5:11.

researchers at the university of hospital in philadelphia say kids who take antibiotics early on in age could be contributing to them being obese. antibiotics may affect the organisms in their sbes ti making them vulnerable to gaining weight. weight watchers shows indulging in unhealthy treats while on a diet makes it more likely to reach your goal weight. those that let themselves have something bad once a week were more likely to lose weight. makes sense because if you deprive yourself, you will gorge and eat an entire box of oreos. i know from experience, if you treat yourself once in a while -- >> you plan on it, then you don't eat the whole box. >> you can say, i'm going to eat

on insurance, an accident must be completely the fault of the driver. insurance companies have said rates may go up in the law changes. walmart says comedian tracy morgan is partly responsible for his injuries during a deadly crash in june. according to court documents, morgan was not wearing a seat belt whenhe walmart truck slammed into the limousine he was riding in. he was critically hurt and another comedian died in the crash. morgan is suing walmart saying it should have known the truck driver was awake for more than 24 hours before the crash. 5:18 now. new this morning, video of a fishing boat rescuing 109 people after their ferry ran aground. look at the scene here off the southwest coast yesterday. a fishing boat traveling nearby heard the distress call and responded before the coast guard. the boat towed the ferry to safety. in april a similar ferry crash

sank off the coast of seoul killing more than 300, most of them children. some good samaritans were in the right place at the right time to rescue a woman missing for days. >> and we heard a thump, thump, thump, and we thought it was a prank. somebody was pranking us. >> it was no prank, though. the mother in louisville, kentucky, was locked in the trunk of a car. the good samaritans called 911 concerned someone wouldn't get there on time. >> she said she couldn't breathe, so i got scared. 911 still hadn't arrived, so i ran across the street, got a brick, through the brick through the passenger window -- >> they popped the trunk and the woman was freed. police say she had absolutely no memory how she got there. police believe she was hit in the head by somebody before being locked in the trunk. it is now time to look at the forecast.

we are talking about some warm weather that we have been enjoying through the area. >> a little bit of fog for some of us kicking things off this tuesday morning. we'll look at things now, tom, what do you say? we have patchy, dense fog this morning because the atmosphere is pretty saturated with moisture. thanks to the showers we had yesterday and a few lingering showers overnight, right now storm team 4 radar is showing showers northeast of baltimore heading into northern delaware. we have a few sprinkles as well. southern part of the bay into the lower part of the eastern shore, that is moving off to the east this morning. farther west, we have some of the dense fog beginning to form. and as we go forward throughout the rest of the day, we'll see the fog dissipating midmorning. a little sunshine in and out after that. then by mid afternoon, might get showers popping up out in the mountains. late afternoon, the showers are drifting farther east. these areas you see in the greens and yellows are the scattered showers. then as of 10:00 p.m., might have a few of these north and west of the metro area. but most dissipating by midnight. and by dawn tomorrow, may have a

lingering shower. what to wear today for the morning hours? long sleeves and long pants. it will be rather cool in the low to mid-60s the next few hours with the fog around, too. watch out for that for students waiting for the buses this morning between 7:00 to 8:00 in the low 60s. then between 8:00 to 9:00, partly sunny. most of the fog should be gone by them with temperatures into the upper 60s. and we drive around today, keep up the weather 24/7 with the latest radars and the storm team 4 weather app. get it in the itunes store and download it. tomorrow, partly sunny with highs in the upper 70s. a small chance for a shower late morning and during the afternoon. then on thursday, partly cloudy. morning lows in the upper 50s. afternoon highs in the mid-70s. friday, we'll have some fun in the morning with increasing clouds in the afternoon as a front approaches from the west. temperatures into the upper 70s. right now we're looking at the

timing would be friday evening for showers to come on through. ending before dawn on saturday, the storm team 4 outlook is showing a big change for the weekend. saturday is near 70 with lots of sun and the highs in the 60s. 40s for the lows on sunday. then monday a bit milder again with highs in the middle 70s. we'll look at the latest visibilities with the fog around and now we'll look at road conditions with melissa. overall, no may job pmajor problems. we have some fog off 95 in maryland. the beltway near good luck road is pretty good. the beltway at 50 is seeing a bit of fog that should burn off in a little bit. a wider look at things, no real problems anywhere.

the coast guard says life jackets likely saved everyone's life in this accident. today a major road project gets underway to help your trick to redskins park. vdot will begin the extension project of the gloucester parkway. the road will extend from the existing end point at the loudoun parkway to pacific boulevard with the new road running by redskins park. it will cost $40 million and completed by the summer of 2016. what do you look for when looking for a new car? according to a new study, most people are looking for the car on the internet. the study says access to wi-fi or a 4g internet connection is increasingly important. 80% of car buyers consider it one of the most important options when buying a new car. and the younger the car buyer the more impor that internet connectivity is. to have internet connectivity in your car is something you would have to look for. >> not ever. it's never crossed my mind.

hearing. lawmakers want to grill her on not only the incident that happened ten days ago, the fence jumper who ran across the yard. and now according to "the washington post" he got to the east room and beyond before they were able to stop him. but they also want to ask about the earlier incident, a separate post says in 2011 when the seven gunshots hit the white house, it was four days before the secret service was able to confirm that. it may have been gang gunfire shoot-out near the white house. turns out it was not someone who appeared to be disgruntled with the president. all that is expected to come out today, but here's where part of the hearing could be held in private. she questions whether to reveal a lot of details about how to protect the first family. we'll see what happens starting at 10:00. >> tracie potts, thank you. there were changes in place

right now in response to that incident. take a look at the second fence along the northern lawn of the white house. the secret service says it is only temporary. we'll be sure to let you know if it changes because of the latest report. after shots were fired, we are working to find out whether a security guard at the ethiopian embassy will face charges. he was detained for firing the gun while trying to break up a group of protesters. you can see him holding the gun in this video here. everyone else is holding their cell phones. nobody was shot but shots did hit the car and a tree nearby. new developments overnight out of hong kong. pro-democracy protesters say the government has until tomorrow to meet their demands for election reform. hundreds of thousands spent another night in the streets bringing one of the financial hubs of the world to a standstill. they want hong kong's chief executive to step down and for

officials to hold democratic elections. they will not negotiate with protesters and will continue to pre-screen candidates for the elections. and many are calling this the umbrella revolution. you can see tens of thousands of demonstrators holding umbrellas using them to deflect pepper spray and tear gas deployed by police officers. u.s. officials are urging police there to show restraint and stop using tear gas on citizens. 5:35, siblings sarah and jacob hoggle went missing three weeks ago. yesterday their father asked governor martin o'malley to issue an amber alert but the state dped his request but said they will continue to provide resources necessary for the search. >> i drove down 270 and for days now i have seen a black screen above my head whenever i drive under the electric board. how is it going to hurt to put
