killed his boss's wife after stealing on the job. police identified the man as andrew racca. he lived at chevy chase and the cystic fibrosis foundation. he was accused of stealing and his boss, richard mattingly said he would tell authorities. and he went to mattingly's home and flattened tires and a woman believed to be mattingly's wife was found dead in the garage. >> while we're not sure if he was involved in the vandalism or not, we the rise somehow the confronted carolyn mattingly and killed her by means still under investigation and then fled. >> racca was found dead in a crashed mercedes a short distance away on river road. there was a gun in the car. news4's mark segrave is working

on the report and will have more at 5:00. in alexandria, virginia, court has just wrapped up in the case of a man accused of shooting a police officer. accused shooter bashir is a paranoid schizophrenic and lost touch with reality. the defense claims bashir is not guilty by reason of insanity in the 2013 shooting. he stopped his taxi and survived after a long spell in the hospital. bashir's father was also on the stand today and we'll hear what he told the court coming up at 5. the man accused of kidnap ing a missing uva student will appear in court tomorrow and also a kidnapping in lynchburg. he's already charged in the abduction of hannah graham and he's linked to morgan harrington's murder.

a high profile resident of falls church, requiri in jail tonight without bail facing child sex assault charges again. michael gardner, the head of the falls church drink committc committee and the victim family member was 2 years old at the time of the alleged abuse. two years ago, gardner was convicted of molesting 10 and 11-year-old girls at a slumber party. that was overturned by the virginia supreme court and said the lower court should have allowed the defense to use

leadership at the once elite agency. an unexpected twist today for the court hearing of the man accused of the worst white house security breach in modern history. the judge ordered a psychological evaluatn of omar gonzalez, the iraq war veteran accused of jumping the fence and bursting into the white house mansion. he told investigators the atmosphere was collapsing and needed to get the information to the president. in court today, his public defender told the judge she was wrong for ordering the mental evaluation and said he will fight it. in a couple days, president oba will leave washington for an overnight trip to chicago. but he has to go out of his way to get there. air force one will land in gary, indiana. about 35 miles away but the airport is still hobbled by the fire in aurora, illinois.

prince george's county, new information coming in about a good samaritan killed outside a swim club. mitchell white was outside the bel air swim racket club at 5:30. it's a popular cut-through for students who attend nearby bowie high school. we learned white was there to pick up his son and his son got into a physical fight with someone. when white tried to break up the fight, someone shot him. police released the information they were looking for. e were able to identify our shooter as a deion eugene warren. there's a forecast of mr. warren to my right, your left. homicide detective have obtained an arrest warrant charging him with first-degree mu as well as related charges. >>police investigators working this case have not gone home since yesterday's shooting.

coming up at 5:00, county burrow chief tracee wilkins will have new information how they were able to identify the shooter. sandy hook administrators were not taking any chances after someone called in a bomb threat. it came in around 9:30 and they quickly evacuated students to a nearby school. parents picked up their kids and school was dismissed. it's been almost two years since the gunman killed 20 students at sandy hook and the original building has since been torn down. tracy morgan is speaking out after wal-mart blamed him for his injuries for his accident. morgan and other people are suing wal-mart for negligence because their limo van was hit by a wal-mart truck in june and they allege the driver was too tired to be on the road.

a safety exercise turns deadly. a pennsylvania state trooper has been killed in a gun training accident. he was shot in the chest yesterday while participating in a yearly training exercise at this gun range. he had been a member of the force for two years. the shooting remains under investigation. for now, authorities believe it was an accident. a small town in california has been rocked by the shooting death of its mayor. the mayor's wife is suspected of pulling the trigger and right now prosecutors are trying to decide whether she should be

murder-suicide case we brought to you last night. >> detectives began tracing clues of a trail that led them to a house just up the road. that trail led detectives back to a dispute at a nonprofit in bethesda. joining us live on potomac on the shocking new details. >> reporter: we're outside the home where richard and carolyn mattingly lived here in the potomac. you can still see the charred brick outside the home. it was inside that garage where the 57-year-old was found dead yesterday. this all started after a person where her husband worked was accused of stealing. police were first called to this home in the potomac yesterday for a report of a car that had its tire slashed. police spoke to the victim less than an hour before she was murdered. shortly after the police left, another call came in for a fire
