guard when you step outside? >> this is the coldest weather in months. storm team 4 meteorologist chuck bell. >> good sunday morning. national airport dropped to 44 degrees this morning. our coldest temperature since late april. it's been a while. dulles airport dropped down to 33 degrees this morning. even though there were no frost advisories out there, a lot of twitter followers are tweeting me frost pictures. i'll show you those in a little bit. if you've got a frosty photo to share. currently we've made it to 50 at national airport. still 40 in rockville, 42 at reston town center. 43 at dulles airport. tlurs in the upper 40s in fredricksburg as well. don't you worry, though. it's going to be a gorgeous day to be outside today. full sunshine start to finish. highs today only in the low 60s. quite a bit cooler than average. there's a warmup as soon as we go back to work. that part of the forecast coming up. new this morning, just

moments ago d.c. police confirmed an officer shot a man in the district. now, this shooting happened just before midnight on wheeler road and alabama avenue in southeast. that's in the congress heights neighborhood. we do not know why the officer opened fire on the man. we're working at this hour to find out his condition. today police officers from all over virginia will search for missing university of virginia student hannah graham. shfs last seen september 12th, more than three weeks ago. we're expecting to hear from the officers any minute now. they have just met up in charlottesville. jesse matthew is in jail charged with taking graham. he'll face a hearing on that abduction charge in december. matthew is not talking to investigators. graham's parents made a plea to anyone who might know where they daughter is. in a recorded statement, graham's mother fought back tears. she said something must know something to solve the mystery. >> please, please, please, help

breaking news now out of japan. the japanese coast guard launched the search for three u.s. airmen. our contacts at the pentagon tell us three crew members were washed out to sea near okinawa. apparently they were taking photos of the high waves out there. a helicopter crew is looking for the airmen right now. we'll keep you posted on any updates that come in. protesters are not giving up in hong kong. crowds right here camped out on the streets one week after the start of the massive pro democracy campaign. scattered groups finding spots to sleep wherever they can. protesters insist they will stay in the streets until hong kong gets more autonomy. and specifically the right to choose its own leaders.

this morning investigators are trying to figure out what caused a fire at the flight 93 national memorial in pennsylvania. we now know the fire destroyed an american flag that flew over the u.s. capital on the day of the september 11th attacks. this fire also destroyed the park's headquarters and a handful of personal items that belonged to the crew and passengers of flight 93.

now crews were actually able to save the majority of its oral histories and also photo collections and dvds. a symphony is interrupted by dozens of people protesting the shooting death of an unarmed teenager in missouri. ♪ >> this is the video posted on youtube. the "st. louis post-dispatch" reports the musicians were about to perform when demonstrators started singing and unfurled three banners from the balcony. there were messages about michael brown's death. the protests happened last night. police didn't receive any calls to respond. ferguson's unrest was the source of inspiration for an artist. >> nbc's art holiday shows us the pictures coming from the pain. >> for ferguson, this is kind of like my personal therapy that

be outside. but it's been our toldest morning in a long time. national airport the coldest morning since april 29th. national only dropped down to 44 degrees. dulles international airport 33 degrees this morning. that's the coldest temperature since it was 31 on april the 21st. so it has indeed been a long stretch since we've sen temperatures this cold. overall temperatures this morning, there's that 33 at dulles, 44 at national, 42 in an nap sis. these are overnight low temperatures. now it's sunshine retuing, things are starting to warm up. i managed that frost is out there. my twitter followers jennifer in hyattsvil hyattsville, scraping a little frost off the roof of the minivan this morning. caught a few other folks out there in the twitter world sending me their frost pictures this morning. right now it's a nice looking day outside. 50 at national airport. southwesterly breeze at 6 miles per hour. the real change is how dry the

air mass is that's outside. this is static electricity dry weather. be careful if you're scuffing your feet on the rug today. temperatures have rebounded. 50 downtown, 43 at dulles. even mid to upper 40s in the shenandoah valley. quantico still at 48 degrees. so so you're planning to go outside and take your run, temperatures will be climbing today up into the upper 50s and low 60s. if you're running here in the next little bit, have a shedable player so after mile two or three you can shed the layer and stay comfortably warm. nonetheless, no chance for rain across the area today or tomorrow. that's good news. no big weather system anywhere close to it. this is a relatively dry flow in the atmosphere for us. our next little chance for rain coming our way on tuesday will not have a lot of moisture to work with. a 30 to 40% chance for showers. rainfall amounts will be very

but no charges have been filed. a family is looking for answers into who killed their loved one in the district. the deadly stapping happened friday afternoon on 14th street. this is near monroe in northwest and it's in the columbia heights neighborhood. police say 35-year-old kenneth young, junior, was attacked during the evening rush. his cousin says he was a gentle man. >> 14th street, we gri up around here. he grew up around here. i did. people -- plenty of people around here have our last name. we're the youngs, people know us. >> police are offering a $25,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in this case. this morning a prince george's county police officer is charged with steal an ipad. a woman said somebody took her ipad from an apple store. the surveillance video showed a man and woman walk out of the store with it. they put the device on --

way in new mexico. more than 500 hot air balloons lifting off yesterday morning. you can see how beautiful they are, an array of shapes, colors, patterns and sizes. pilots were using tablets to navigate through the sky. no reports of injuries or crashes. that's definitely a good thing. the festival does go on for nine days. a bumper at the ball park after 18 innings. this morning what the nationals say led to such a tough loss for the team.

good sunday morning everyone. the nats game just wrapped up in what felt like about 15 minutes ago. the giants took a commanding 2-0 series lead against the nationals in the longest game in major league postseason history. brandon belt came through for the giants hitting a solo home run. san fran with a hard-earned 2-1 victory. the nats head to san francisco with their backs against the wall, one loss away from being swept out of the play-offs. >> we don't have a choice now. it's a must-win for us. so we'll see if we can get a win in game three, and we must win game four. that's all we can do at this point. >> game three comes your way tomorrow afternoon. don't forget the redskins not matching today. they're playing under the lights, monday night football against the defending super bowl

we're getting more information on the breaking news out of japan. the u.s. military is telling us search crews have found the he mains of a u.s. airmen. two others are still missing right now. our contacts at the pentagon tell us three crew members were washed out to sea near the island of okinawa. apparently they were taking photographs of the high waves out there. a typhoon is approaching the region. the japanese coast guard is helping with the search. another big headline this
