no stone is unturned for a missing student from our area. fast-moving developments in the fight against u.s. as one victim fights for his life, one gets ready for a long journey home. trying to stay afloat. the big announcement from embattled swimmer and maryland native michael phelps. good evening everyone, i'm chris gordon in tonight for chris lawrence. it's been three weeks since a university of virginia student disappeared. tonight the charolettesville police chief is making a promise to bring hannah graham home. a crew of more than 100 officers and volunteers are combing the countside. focusing on 700 square miles that surround the city. d darcy spencer joins us. >> reporter: the search involves rugal terrain. they're looking for anything that could lead to that missing teen. >> every square inch is being

searched this weekend and we're going to find hannah graham. >> reporter: the determination charolettesville police chief has to find missing uva student hannah graham comes to a promise he made to her heart-broken parents. >> we have to find hannah graham. we made that commitment to her parents and we're going to honor that commitment. >> reporter: yesterday graham's mother made a tearful plea for her daughter's return. >> please, please, please help end this nightmare for all of us. >> reporter: as law enforcement agencies from across virginia continued to search for the 18-year-old, they maintain hope she'll be found alive. >> this is a rescue effort. we're here to find hannah and to bring hannah home. >> reporter: trained searchers and police officers searched more than 700 square miles this weekend, some of it rugged terrain. >> there's a lot of thick stuff in this county.

during the training we try to train for the environment we're searching in, and virginia is just that way, thick. >> reporter: searchers are looking for any clue that could help with this investigation. >> you're looking for the bread crumbs, the pieces of the puzzle. you're looking for the cell phones, the shoes, anything that will lead us and point us in hannah's direction. >> reporter: now, the chief again asked residents to check their properties, vacant buildings, even wells to help them search for that missing college student. turning now to the ebola case in the u.s. the centers for disease control now says that the dallas patient has taken a turn for the worse and is now fighting for his life. thomsz do thomas duncan is in intensive care unit in critical case. earlier today cdc located a homeless man that may have come into contact with duncan. a man was being monitored but left. a court order could be issued to

keep him under observation. only ten people are expected to have direct contact with duncan and the cdc director says that's as far as it could get. >> it won't spread wide in the u.s. we can do infection control in hospitals and intervention to stop it in its tracks. meanwhile, dr. rick sacra was admitted for upper respiratory infection and isolated as a precaution. his doctors don't believe it's related to ebola. he was treated at nebraska medical center where ashoka mukpo just left africa an hour ago. he was working alongside dr. nancy snyderman and the nbc

team is under quarantine as a precaution. on wheeler road, a few blocks from the congress high metro station. u.s. marshals with the help of d.c. police were serving a search warrant. officers went into the apartment around 11:30 last night and they say a man displayed a handgun. an officer open fire on him. it's unclear if d.c. police or the marshals shot the man. shooting is under investigation. in montgomery county, volunteers searching for the miss hogle children have moved their base of operations to germantown community center where they'll gather every day as they continue to look for sara and jacob. it has now been almost a month since the toddlers disappeared with their mother, who has been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia is in custody but she's not saying where they are. volunteers have put up flyers in different languages. searching hiking trails from damascus to rockville.

the baltimore native was charged with dui after police pulled him over for speeding and swerving on i-95 last tuesday. this morning, phelps told his twitter followers that he's taking some time away for himself and entering a treatment program. he added, swimming is a major part of my life, but right now i need to focus my attention on me as an individual. and do the necessary work to learn from this experience and make better decisions in the future. in centreville today, large crowds gathered for the first ever northern virginia pride festival. it will be going on for another hour at bull run special event center. the festival celebrates the history, progress and diversity of the lgbtq community. this was a chance to network, enjoy good food and music. and it was the perfect fall day for an outdoor festival. tonight honoring veterans in a permanent way. we'll take you inside washington's newest memorial that pays tribute to those who

they head off to school, i'm saying a jacket and long sleeves. layer because by the time recess rolls around, they won't need the jacket. long sleeves will be just fine. your high temperature tomorrow, 73 degrees. so, about 10 degrees warmer than it was today. your hour by hour temperature planner, it's a dry start. in fact, for most of us, it's dry throughout the entire day on monday. noon temperatures in the low 60s. 4:00, that's when we hit our high of 73. by 7:00, there's a chance of a shower north and west of washington but the d.c. metro area does remain dry. on future weather this says 6 p.m., your monday evening. notice that chance of showers in loudoun, northern prince william counties. aside from that it's dry. better chance of rain on tuesday. really at any time throughout the day, otherwise we are looking at plenty of clouds on tuesday. remember, it's going to be a little breezy at times. a high temperature of 74. mid-70s for wednesday.

for the nats it's now do or die. >> this is a must win game three. if they lose, they're out of the postseason. last night was the longest postseason game in major league history. game two between the giants and nationals lasted six hours and 23 minutes. 18 innings of baseball, 17 different pitchers used in this ball game. and it was the nationals who fell short in heart-breaking fashion. jordan zimmerman did not disappoint in game two. came out with one out away from a complete game shutout.

zim walked joe panik and his manager decided to make a change. zim out of 8 2/3, giants tied it 1 life 1 later in inning. deep into extras, top 18, tanner, best pitcher during the regular season, gives up a huge home run to brandon belt. and that was the difference. the giants beat the nats 2-1. longest game in postseason history. san francisco is now up 2-0 in the series. a lot of people pointing fingers as to why the nationals lost but it's pretty simple. >> they beat me. that's what it boils down to. i didn't pitch the way i wanted to. felt good the first inning and, obviously, the home run was not ideal. like i said, upside is, we still got three games left. bring them back home for the sixth game and win it here. >> i guess we got to go do a must win and try to make history. you know, going into san fran, a

joe flacco in baltimore came in a 3-1 record. andrew luck and colts are winners of back-to-back games. pick this up in the fourth quarter. colts up 13-6. luck drops back. no one's open. he keeps it himself. and that is a 13-yard touchdown run. indy's up 20-6. ravens did battle back. later in the quarter in the red zone. justin forsett finds pay dirt. ravens back within one. later in the game, under a minute left, last chance for baltimore. fourth down. flacco to torrey smith. that one goes right off his hands. watch it again. smith can't make the catch. the colts, they beat the ravens 20-13. down in dallas, everybody rocking the pink to support breast cancer awareness month. cowboys hosting the texans today. under a minute to go, dallas trying to stop houston, but arian foster punches it in from one yard out.

the texans come back from a ten-point deficit, even the score at 17-17. overtime, romo with a third and long. romo throws up a plrayer here. it gets answered. dez bryant makes the catch. great catch by dez bryant there. that moved the chains and also got the boss man jerry jones on his feet. few plays later, dan bailey on to kick the cowboys to a win, 49-yard field goal. the cowboys survive in overtime. they won it 20-17. dallas now 4-1 this season. to hockey, the capitals open up their season thursday night at verizon center hosting montreal. this afternoon they played their last game. it doesn't count. before the game, tying the knot at center ice. ovi said, no, you don't. first period, eric staal goes
