best effort. >> al: common, you're getting the bic bugs. you better get an explanation. >> cris: mike brown there is probably wondering the same thing. >> al: at the 49 yard line. brady to do some clock work here with a little over 7:00 to play. instead, he is going to throw it and short pass underneath and aaron dobson to the 33 yard line. another guy who has been in the news lately. he was inactive the last two weeks. the story came out he had had a confrontation with josh mcdaniels and the patriots very uncharacteristically and released a statement from belichick saying false, didn't happen. >> cris: josh mcdaniels said he got a call from his wife and said what happens between you and aaron dobson? he said, what are you talking about? she had all kind of stories going around the whole city here that you guys had a big blowup and that is why he is not playing. he said what?
11:31 pm
so they started falling up on it and nobody knew what they were talking about. >> al: the world of chatter! that's what we do for a living. develin takes it up the middle for a gain of four yards. >> cris: there is a fullback right there. >> al: one way to staunch a cut. >> cris: these two guards have had a nice game here tonight. along with stork inside. just getting the push right up the middle. and one of the things that you like is when a team is beaten down the way that they were last week against kansas city, what do you do? you come back, you bring your tight end in and your old guards back and just go forward. just bite them. it worked tonight. >> al: ridley. 5:30 to go. >> cris: for the instant bengals, they have a lot of guys that aren't healthy and star
11:32 pm
players. we have talked about burfict tonight and marvin jones who had ten touchdown receptions for them a year ago. so this team is going to get better. they should get all of those guys back. >> al: "sunday night football," it's been tough. brady on a third and five. and they will convert it. juggling catch made there by vereen to move the chains. one thing about cincinnati, cris, they are a young team. one of the youngest in the league. and they have got a large amount of experience for as youthful as they are. >> cris: well, marvin lewis has built this thing the right way, there is no question. not only young, but young with experience and they are going to learn from this.
11:33 pm
i'm not sure anybody was going to come in here tonight and beat the patriots. >> al: to the 20. bengals, take a look at the guys and how old they are. all those guys, 26 and younger. and same thing there on the other side of the ball. 11 regular starters. 26 or younger with three or more seasons with the team. and that would be second most in the nfl. second only to the champion seahawks. third and nine. and play fake pass is incomplete. cris, i agree with you. i've been thinking about this game all week and going, there is no way, no way new england can throw in a stinker again like that. >> cris: as long as they got the issue solved with the offensive line. they tried to go young and tried to put cameron fleming in who
11:34 pm
was a rookie and brian stork in in a tough environment in kansas city. they were still moving around and trying to figure out what was going to happen. they had marcus cannon, a tackle, playing guard for much of the early part of the season. dan connolly, the guard, they kept flipping them back in and went back to old school and it's working. >> al: the right form plap i know you ran into some people and i did too, in the hotel and on the street. saying, look. in the word of aaron rodgers, relax. >> cris: yeah. yeah. you know, when something has been this good this long, you want to pick one of the other teams in this division, do so at your own risk. >> al: it was hard for brady to say that. aaron rodgers knew what he had and he has done it before. aaron, he is always saying the sky is falling outside but inside it's fine. with brady you began to wonder a little bit after last week
11:35 pm
exactly what he thought he had. >> cris: basically, brady was answering questions he is too old and too washed up and is he done. you can kind of see his face. what? excuse me? >> al: 35-yard field goal is good. here's what revis said belichick told the team this week. >> stick together and stay together. basically, saying this is all we got. i mean, we need to stick together and become a closer team and that is basically the message that he has given us. i think the guy has been responding well of just being great teammates and sticking to the and like i say, it's a long season and we will turn this around. we definitely will. >> cris: it was interesting in our conversation with revis. you know, he said you never know what is going on here, you know? he's been on the outside like all of us looking in and always
11:36 pm
wondered what it was like with belichick. he says he lets the guys be their only personality. it's not like fun guys messing around in practice. he said the locker room is very close like a broortherhood. after i was here a while, it dawned on me, this is why these guys win. they don't let the outside stuff beat them down. they take care of it from the inside/out. >> al: belichick has been for a few rodeos. >> cris: let's it play out. september is almost preseason now. >> al: touchback. ball comes out. a good one next sunday night. giants have it going. three straight. knocked off atlanta today. philadelphia is 4-1. they held on to beat st. louis. "football night" gets us started at 7:00 eastern time. giants three straight wins by ten or more points. first time they have done that in five seasons.
11:37 pm
eagles, six returned touchdowns in the last three games. it started today with a blocked punt which resulted in a touchdown in the first 30 seconds. jason campbell will finish up now for cincinnati. the ten-year veteran. at one time, the number one quarterback in washington. jeremy hill will make mr. campbell look pretty good here with a gain of 48 yards to the 42 yard line. >> cris: what did brady tell us the other day? yards after catch what is better than that. this looks like he threw a bomb on first down. a little screen pass that fooled everybody. sometimes defensive players at this point in the game start thinking about their own stats and they were coming after a sack on that one. >> al: jason campbell 1 for 1 for 48 yards. phenomenal night.
11:38 pm
11:39 pm
11:40 pm
we look at the game next sunday night between the eagles and the giants. beautiful shot of downtown boston. we approach midnight. 20 minutes from midnight. i saw paul revere outside the stadium. >> cris: i just wanted to make sure i didn't mess up that and hit twitter hard tonight. >> al: no, we are not trending. marvin lewis watched his team come in 3-0 off a bye week. but it's been all new england tonight. >> cris: sometimes off those byes, teams aren't sharp and that first quarter really got into this thing. >> al: campbell on second and seven. pass to sanu. >> cris: i like this mohamed sanu. he goes around schools in cincinnati and does a speech and kind of the basis of it is no excuse.
11:41 pm
no excuses. nobody can tell me you had it tougher than i did. he had some inspiration early in his life and he tries to provide if for young people in cincinnati. he does a great job. >> al: third year with the bengals, out of rutgers. that is dropped. dropped by jeremy hill. 1:30 to go. it will be fourth down. >> cris: well, this is one -- one of those games you look at the schedule and you go at new england, yeah, it's probably a loss. so i guess it doesn't really matter at the end of it. exactly what it looked like. but for the bengals, maybe they will do what the patriots did tonight, which is take a severe whipping and turn it into some emotion and come out ready to play next week. >> al: they go to carolina next week and cincinnati and that pass is taken in but out of bounds. he was on the chalk. incomplete. new england will run the clock out. so the updated standings now in the afc east.
11:42 pm
buffalo wins today. they won in overtime in detroit. new england is now 3-2. miami had the week off after they played in london last week and the jets lose at san diego to go 1-4. since 2001, that's when brady took over here for bledsoe, new england, more than three times the wins as opposed to losses and none of the other teams even at .500. >> cris: you really go back to '94 when robert kraft took over this team leads the nfl in wins and playoff wins and conferences and super bowl titles. that is about the whole thing and about all you're playing for. >> al: brady is on the bench and garoppolo took that last snap. >> cris: a big controversy now. >> al: i told you, he should have played. >> cris: he gets a lot of snaps in practice. we were out there on friday and
11:43 pm
i was surprised. i said is there something to this and is he going to get a chance to play? i guess the last three or four years, new england, unlike a lot of teams, they give garoppolo two or three snaps and you'll see brady in there sometimes with the scout team making plays and throw to some of those receivers. they want to make sure jimmy garoppolo is ready if and when he is needed. >> al: i tell you, they have had a lot of satisfying victories in new england over the years. but, i mean, for bill belichick and brady, they will rank right up near the top in terms of satisfaction, considering everything that went on this week. yep. >> cris: they probably won't do, i told you so in the press conference, but they will be thinking it. >> al: no. belichick will go, we are on to buffalo. we're thinking about buffalo. there is no past. there is no future.
11:44 pm

bonn buoniconti and the rest of the '72 dolphins get to pop the cork of the champagne as the bengals are beaten badly tonight 43-17 and no unbeatens in the national football league after tonight. tom brady 23 of 35 for nearly 300 yards and two tds and no picks and darrelle revis who did an excellent job out of the secondary blanketing a.j. green tonight forcing a fumble nearly the end of the first half. so all three of them game balls. likeness on the "sunday night football" bus and two of them, brady and ridley, are with michele. after a week so many people, tom, questioned this team and you, what was your mindset like as you took the field tonight? >> it was a great opportunity for us. so, you know, a lot of guys dug really deep this week and coming off a tough loss like we did. you know, we just -- it was a good week. >> why did things go so much better tonight? >> we played better.
11:48 pm
we executed better. a great team win. a lot of guys made a lot of big plays. it was a great effort. we are going to need more in this long season and a big one this week in buffalo. >> you became the sixth quarterback in nfl history to cross that 50,000 yards passing mark. what does that milestone mean to you? >> it's awesome. i love not having to throw against 24 over here any more! too many throws against him! so i'm glad to see him on our play making the great plays tonight. >> you had had a touchdown pass to tim wright and you and julian edelman figuring out who will spike the ball. what was behind that emotion? >> it was a long week and everybody dug deep. proud of everybody. a great win and happy for everybody. it's one game. we have a lot more to go and this week is as big of a week as anybody of us. >> thanks for the time, tom. >> hi mom. >> darrelle revis is happy is not to throw against you any more.
11:49 pm
you left the field with a hamstring injury and you were questionable. you came back out. what happened? >> well, that doesn't matter because i came back. it was a minor injury and, you know, i just happy to get back out there with my teammates and help contribute on a win. >> contribute? a battle with a.j. green you won it tonight. how were you able to do it? >> just study. just study film. he's a great player and execute every down on him and try to be aggressive as much as i can with him. >> i was talking to tom about the week that was. how do you think this team responded to all of the criticism? >> we responded well, man, i think the team has a lot of heart and we played -- we played with a lot of heart tonight which is good. it was a long week for us. we executed everything we did. everything the coaches wanted us to do and we came out and played well tonight. >> thanks a lot. >> apologies to friends and family stevan ridley. game ball for him as that was darrelle revis. tony, the patriots on monday night lose by 27 at kansas city.
11:50 pm
they win tonight against the bengals by 26. in the space of less than a week, how do you account for that turnaround? >> well, bob, you saw that graphic during michele's interview with tom brady. that record after a loss. one of the things new england does really well is because they have tom, they can go to different game plans instant instantaneously and lof two tight ends and protection for brady and then on defense, they did put revis on a.j. green. something that they hadn't really done, hadn't had him shadowing the best receiver. you got to that man-to-man coverage and they were aggressive. i think it was energy, but as much as anything, a change in game plans and cincinnati did not adjust and was not ready for it. >> tony, thanks. we will turn as always to mike florio of pro football talk. what are you working on for tomorrow's show? >> bob, we are keeping a close watch on the jim harbaugh situation in san francisco. even though the 49ers won today,
11:51 pm
two in a row, they are 3-2. talk per sis that this will be harbaugh's last year with the 49ers. he is under contract through 2015 but that creates a possibility he could be traded to another team after this season. and back in february, if he had wanted to go to the browns the browns would have given up two third round picks to the 49ers to get harbaugh and that could set the floor for any trade talks involving harbaugh and another team after this season. we are taking a closer look at a hit that bruce arians, the cardinals head coach, called the dirtiest play he has seen in 37 years of football. julius thomas hits calais campbell low. it's possible it wasn't an illegal chop block and maybe dirty in the eyes of some but not an inappropriate play under the current rule book so we will breaking that down and try to get a clarification from the nfl. >> that harbaugh story would be huge. intriguing one even in its developing stages. if it comes to fruition that
