area. megan mcgrath is live at the bethesda metro station where you'll see these changes immediately. >> reporter: we are riding along this escalator and look at this thing. it's absolutely enormous. 106 feet long. the second longest escalator in the western hemisphere and they'll start one by one swapping out these escalators. that means that folks who use bethesda metro station will have one less escalator to get you where you need to go and that could cause some tie-ups for folks certainly during the rush hour. these escalators are over 30 years old. they break down. they have been an issue and they need to be swapped out. they'll do the work one escalator at a time. so you will always have two in working order. one going up and one going down but you will lose that third escalator. the work getting under way today. it's going to take 2 1/2 years

to finish when it's all said and done there will be three brand new escalators. in short-term, folks can expect things to get crowded. if things get overcrowded during peak periods or if there's a problem, you also have the possibility of them shutting down the station until things thin out a bit. folks should be aware of this. have alternative plans. it's going to take a while to complete but it should be better when all is said and done. reporting live, megan mcgrath, news4. back to you in the studio. >> thank you, megan. police are using any and all means to find missing uva student hannah graham. more than 100 officers and volunteers spent the weekend combing through rugged terrain for clues. saturday a plane took pictures over the area of charlottesville analyzed by a computer. it's been more than three weeks since anyone last made contact with hannah. tim longo promised her parents he will bring her home. >> every square inch of the county is being searched this weekend. we have to find hannah graham.

we made that commitment to her parents and we're going to honor that commitment. >> chief longo says his department is now following up on 3,000 tips. he's also askingeople in the area to help in the search by checking their property. volunteers are not giving up their search for two children who vanished nearly a month ago in montgomery county. searchers are meeting at the germantown community center as they look for the two. they are posting flyers in different languages and searching hiking trails. prosecutors charged the children's mother in this case. she suffers from paranoid schizophren schizophrenia. >> expect delays in your driving in alexandria today on north kings highway you'll see crews replacing pipes on timothy way. this is happening every day this week. this should not affect your drive home. the construction is expected to last until the end of the month. you could see relief on your commute this morning. vdot plans to launch a pilot program that would allow buses to use the shoulder on i-66

welcome back. a disturbing new study suggests sexting is a normal part of teenage life. researchers at the university of texas just wrapped a six-year study. they say it is surprisingly common for kids to text sexually explicit photos before actually having sex. the study found no link between sexting and future risky sexual behavior. high schools may do more than offer an education. a new study suggests they may also be a good source for healthcare services. university of colorado researchers surveyed teens who visited a school based health center in denver. most visited because they were sick or needed a vaccine. more than 70% of teens and parents said they had a good experience. we have a big game tonight

5:15 now. a few minutes ago the plane carrying the nbc news cameraman diagnosed with ebola left bangor, maine. it just touched down to refuel there and is now on the way to a hospital in nebraska. this comes as medical teams in texas are working to save the life of another ebola patient and make sure the deadly virus does not spread.

nbc's jay gray joins us live outside of the hospital in dallas with the latest on this. good morning to you. >> hey there. good morning, aaron. the news out of the isolation unit is not good at all. doctors and relatives telling us that thomas eric duncan's condition is deteriorating. he's gone from serious to critical condition. he can no longer speak to the family on the phone from the isolation unit and he's on a respirator and dialysis machine. they are working around the clock to try to save this man. the first ever diagnosed with this illness in the united states. that's ashoka mukpo the freelance photographer working for nbc news made it to bangor, maine. stopped briefly to refuel the medevac jet that they are using to transport him ultimately to nebraska and omaha where he'll be treated at the nebraska medical center.

that's the same place that successfully treated an earlier ebola patient and prognosis for mukpo seems to be good. he's able to eat and stand and walk around. he'll get right into treatment the moment he lands we're told there in omaha. that should happen in the next few hours. that's the latest live here in dallas. i'm jay gray. back to you. >> thank you. 5:17. two patients in our area that were being tested for ebola do not have it. the centers for disease control says a patient admitted to howard university hospital does not have ebola. a person at shady grove hospital in rockville was tested for possible exposure and that test was also negative. developing right now, a huge typhoon is headed toward tokyo while search teams look for two american airmen missing off japan's coast. four airmen were swept away by the storm. one died and another is recovering right now. look as it crosses the country

dumping a lot of rain and causing a lot of damage. it's expected to pass over tokyo today and then veer away into the pacific ocean. the international search for malaysian airlines flight 370 received new equipment today. the search was put on hold for four months while new ships were outfitted with sonar, video cameras and jet fuel sensors. the ships will focus on a 23,000-mile patch of the indian ocean off the australian coast. three ships will spend a year looking for the plane that disappeared without a trace on march 8th. today the ntsb is looking into a fender-bender at jfk airport on the tarmac there over the weekend. yesterday a delta connection plane was parked waiting to approach its gate when it was hit by a jordanian plane. the royal jordanian plane hit the jet. you may find it harder to

get a cab in montgomery county. they say cab companies are charging too much to lease their cars. cab drivers will drive to the county executive building in rockville beginning at 11:00 this morning to ask county leaders to start regulating leasing fees for cab drivers. we now know the identity of an 18 year old who police say stabbed his uncle to death in montgomery county. police say andrew david stabbed russell david during an argument on saturday night in a home they shared in gaithersburg. no charges have been filed. the orioles are moving on to the next round of the playoffs. take a look here. this is the cover of "baltimore sun's" sports section today. it feels like o-town is taking over the mid-atlantic. they beat three of the league's best pitchers in the process. the first game of the league championship series set for this friday and until then players

co-worker's car in the parking lot of a chick-fil-a over the weekend. police say the driver knew the teen was on the car but isn't being charged with anything right now. today is the first day of fire prevention week across the washington area. the fire and ems department is going neighborhood to neighborhood to explain the benefits of a working smoke alarm. there are events all week long across the city and on wednesday you can walk into specific cvs stores and request service with your smoke alarm. the purpose of the week is to increase fire prevention awareness. two men in court this week for allegedly assaulting fans at a san francisco 49ers game. shortly before kickoff yesterday, two people were found beaten inside a bathroom at levi stadium. two men were arrested for felony assault. police are not saying whether that fight was the result of a drunken altercation or because of team rivalry. olympian michael phelps has decided to take a break from swimming after his dui arrest. he's going to enter a treatment

program. the baltimore native was charged with driving under the influence last week. he was pulled over for speeding and swerving on i-95. phelps took to twitter to announce that he's entering an in-patient program. he wrote swimming is a major part of my life but i need to focus my attention on me as an individual and do necessary work to learn from this experience and make better decisions in the future. a one-time death row inmate convicted of murdering a philadelphia police officer gave the keynote speech at a college graduation. he spoke via prerecorded video message. the graduates chose the convict as their speaker. a controversial choice not only angered some people but put students' safety in jeopardy. at the last minute, the school was forced to change the time of the ceremony because of threats. >> words that have come our way that we believed led us to want to make a security based decision.
