group of people standing outside a home and began shooting. one man was shot. he later tied at the hospital. a $25,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to the gunman. it is 5:03. this morning the fbi will exhume the body of an unidentified man that could hold the key to solving a decades old maryland cold case. it could be william bradford bishop. he was accused of murdering his family with a sledgehammer in 1976 inside their potomac home. he disappeared after dumping the bodies in north carolina. he bears a striking resemblance to a john doe buried in an alabama cemetery. after the fbi exhumes the body this morning it will take several weeks to compare the dna. a deputy charged wi.

a county sheriff says students were playing paper football last week. the sheriff says carter stepped on a student's hand when he went to pick up the football off the floor. carter is facing assault and battery and will no longer be allowed to substitute. . developing this morning, new efforts to contain ebola. at 7:30, leaders of west africa an nations will meet with the united nations coming from new guinea, sierra leone. the epidemic has hit the country hard. the u.s. marines will bring hell copters to get troops and supplies to key locations. cdc workers will take the temperatures of passengers and look out for symptoms. the screenings will happen at the five airports that received 94% of travelers to the u.s. from west africa.

the officer was in uniform but was working off-duty detail for a security agency at the time. we're told that a confrontation led to a shoot-out. police say the suspect fired three rounds at the officer before his gun jammed. the officer reportedly fired 17 shots. but it's not clear how many shots hit the suspect. that officer was not hurt. the three other suspects were taken into custody. police are launching an internal investigation as is standard procedure to decide whether the officer's behavior was appropriate. officers heard gunshots aimed at them but no evident to support a shooting. this handled last week during a shift change behind the district 4 station. several officers were standing around when they heard gunfire coming from the treeline. a helicopter went up and canines were brought out to search for the gunman. but nothing was found. no gun casings or let holes.

>> we're doing what we can to look at if we can improve anything at this point. we're making sure we have officers check to the rear of the station frequently to make sure we don't have anyone walking through the wooded area. >> helicopters have been doing fly overs. police believe it needs to be monitored. no northern california, five wildfires near a busy highway. they have scorched 380 acres along interstate 80 in sacramento. part of the road is closed indefinitely. the cause under investigation. we will hearn whether a teacher charged with sex crimes will be released from jail. mesa sent nude photos to one of her students and had a sexual relationship with him.

she taught at colonial forge high school. the freelance star reports she had inappropriate relationships with four students since 2012. police say they are investigating. 5:17. a gaithersburg family is asking for help finding their missing loved one. justin has been missing since tuesday afternoon when he was e supposed to be going to a cvs near gaithersburg. he was last seen wearing a blue and white hooded jacket and carrying a backpack. his family is worried about his mental well-being because he does not have his medication. a fire started when an employee was korea mating a 500 pound body. extra steps are taken with large bodies and the workers took the right steps. the fire was contained to the roof. other bodies at that facility at the time were not damaged. a river runs through it. check this out.

repairs are under way in houston to a 20-inch water main that burst in front of a bus stop. it was practically under water. the intersection flooded. it looked more like a stream than a street. the the next story is something you have to see to believe. take a look at the picture. a black bear trapped inside a car. >> oh, my goodness. this was from early monday morning in castle pines, colorado. police say the bear somehow got into the unlocked car and then couldn't get out. they believe the animal smelled take-out food accidentally left in the car. the animal was not hurt. not the case for the car, though. the bear did $15,000 in damage. it is that opposable thumb. teens have abandoned facebook in favor of instagram and twitter. nine out of ten american teens

that deputy delivered the quarantine order. never came in contact with duncan. according to his family, never touched any fluids while he was in the apartment for 30 minutes. because he has come down with stomach pain and fatigue, he has been hospitalized under the utmost caution. now there are questions about whether or not he needs to be monitored as well. he's not part of the original 48. no confirmation this morning that he has been infected by ebola. we learned that thomas duncan's body will be korea mated. the virus can continue to live even after he died yesterday in the hospital. so now they are taking the utmost caution with his burial. meantime, there are extra screenings going on at airports starting on saturday at jfk in new york, newark, chicago

it's 14 before the hour now. this morning we could have a major break in the case for one of the fbi's most wanted. they will exhume an unidentified man that strikes a resemblance to bishop, who was accused of murdering his family with a sledgehammer inside their potomac, maryland home. he disappeared after dumping the bodies in north carolina. the in us 4 i team broke the news. since then, hundreds of tips have poured in, including the one that sent investigatorso scotts borough, alabama yesterday. >> i just shook my head. i mean, my first instinct was i can't believe it. it looks so much like mr. bishop. >> the unidentified map was hit and killed by a car while walking along a highway in 1981. after the fbi exhumes the body

it will take several weeks to compare the dna. a judge will determine exactly how long a former d.c. police officer will spend in jail. prosecutors say linwood barnhill had two missing girls. one was 15, the other 16. the girls told police barnhill promised to find them modelling jobs. he can spend seven years in prison and be required to register as a sex offender. 5:47. prince george's county police are investigating a murder in district heights. this happened at around 9:00 on loring drive. a man came up to a group of people outside an apartment building and began shooting 678 one man was shot and died on the scene. police are still looking to identify the victim. a $25,000 reward is being

offered for information leading to the shooter. today police plan to pass out flyers in silver spring hoping to find a break in this case. a substitute teacher who used to be a culpepper county sheriff's deputy is facing assault charges. shannon carter is accused of stepping on a student's hands last week. students were playing paper football in carter's class. she stepped on the student's hands as he went to pick up the football off the floor. she is facing assault and battery and will no longer be allowed to substitute. today montgomery county is trying to make sure you'll be able to vote on election day without any problems. the county will test electronic voting machines. testers willark paper and electronics ballots to make sure they come out the same. election day is november 4th.

. strict voter i.d. laws could lead to drops in voter turnout. turnout was down 2% in place with tight i.d. requirements. the biggest drops in black voters and young voters. 33 states, including virginia, require voters to show photo i.d. at the polls. you need to show a current. i.d. or one that expired within the year. people who to the floor proper i.d. can fill out a provisional ballot but must show i.d. within three days to get the vote. the d.c. chapter of aarp is hosting a forum tonight. bowser, catania and carol schwartz will all take part. there will not be any back and forth between the candidates. police are reminding students near the university of maryland to lock their doors after a woman caught a stranger in her home.

threatening students at a middle school is unfounded. they sent letters home after learning about that rumor late last week. they said a fellow student said he was going to bring a gun to school and harm others. they looked into this and the threat is not credible. public school buses may help keep you out of traffic backups. montgomery county using them to get private school students to class. they pitched the idea. four schools agreed to try out a pilot program. but exactly when is still being worked out. 29 schools in virginia getting money to develop year-round programs. governor mcauliffe announced $1.6 million in france. a school with a history of underperforming were more likely to improve faster. they will get money to begin its new program in 2015. middleburg in loudoun was
