>> nobody ever thought, you know, what happened if they both go at the same time? something like that was inconceivable. >> announcer: news4 at 11:00 p.m. starts now. for the first time here in the united states one person with ebola has infected someone else. in the texas nurse who tested positive is now being treated in an isolation area. health investigators say she had close contact with ebola patient thomas duncan before he died. the centers for disease control says she contracted ebola due to a breech in protocol and that raises some troubling questions. nbc's jay gray reports. >> reporter: last week she was part of the medical team treating the first patient diagnosed with ebola in the u.s. tonight, she is back inside texas health presbyterian hospital in isolation, now fighting the deadly disease herself. >> it's deeply concerning that

this infection occurred. >> reporter: a review from the centers for disease control blames a breech in hospital protocol for the infection. officials won't release her name but do say the woman had extensive contact with thomas eric duncan before his death, including when he was placed on dialysis and a ventilator as his condition got worse and he became more infectious. officials say she wore a protective suit at that time but experts warn problems can occur after treatment, when that suit is removed. >> you might have fluids on your equipment. you might have infectious stuff on your hands. getting it off effectively without contaminating yourself is hard. >> reporter: hazmat teams are preparing to decontaminate her apartment as city leaders go door to door in the woman's community to reassure neighbors. >> while this is obviously bad news, it is not news that should bring about panic. >> reporter: though it has brought about a stepped up

presence from the cdc here tonight. jay gray, nbc news, dallas. tonight doctors are waiting to see if a patient in massachusetts tested positive for ebola. but they don't think he's at high risk for the virus. the man cently travelled to liberia and went to the hospital today complaining of a headache and muscle pain. within an hour, paramedics transferred him to boston's beth israel hotel under police escort. the man is in isolation while doctors treat him. if you fly out of dull es, you'll seen notice another line of defense to keep ebola from spread mchg this weekend, medical workers started screening passengers at jfk international passport. taking questions and asking questions about potential exposure, but only certain travelers coming into the u.s. from west africa. four other airports will start screening on thursday, including washington dulles. ebola has completely changed the life of a man here in our area. he lost his older brother to the outbreak in lie breer ya.

some very isolated showery activity, mainly in montgomery and frederick counsel tis. you can see most of the area is dry but plenty of clouds around. well, for the morning f you are going into work for that commute, some showers are likely as early as 6:00 a.m. and then the threat of showers sticks around for the remainder of the morning hours and fog. temperature at that point of 59. now, tomorrow warmer than today. i'll let you know just how much warmer in my forecast. thanks. new today is a search for a cab driver who sexually assaulted a passenger in northwest d.c. police say a woman got in the cab and the driver assault herd along kennedy street. the man was driving a red d.c. cab a four-door with a gray stripe. police have taken one person into custody for a stabbing in the district. investigators say he attacked a man today in southeast near minnesota avenue and 18th street. this was around 11:00 a.m. this morning and the victim was still conscious when paramedics rushed

him to the hospital. new tonight for the first time since that horrible crash in oxen hill we're hearing from the victim's family. five people died friday night, including two children. now funeral arrangements are being made as loved ones look for answers. ten children have been left without a mother. >> these children are playing happily at a playground at grandma's house, but this play time is more of a distraction to keep their minds off the fact that their moms were killed in a horrific car crash. >> we're talking about ten kids without mothers, ten. i mean, that's absolutely devastating. >> reporter: these women, sisters were killed in that crash. curtis was 34 years old, she had eight children. her youngest is just 6 weeks old. her oldest two are teenagers, hearty is the teen's father. >> you have those moments like

my daughters -- you know, she said she doesn't want to look in the mirror because she looks so much like her mom. >> tiffany was 32, she had two kids, they're toddlers. the sisters had agreed to take care of each other's kids if anything ever happened. >> nobody ever thought, you know, what happens if they both go at the same time. something like that was inconceivable. there was no plan for that. >> reporter: the women had just done the kids laundry and grabbed the carpet cleaner from home depot. they were heading to their homes in southeast d.c. friday night. but they never made it home. they were stopped at a light here on livingston road when the driver of a mercedes slammed into them. >> they were killed pretty much doing their motherly duties. >> the driver of the acura they were riding in, also a relative, is in grave condition. her two children did not survive. her 1-year-old boy and her teenage daughter.

police say weather and speed appear to be factors in the crash. the driver of the mercedes that hit them was kritdically injured, one passenger died, another survived. they're trying to keep the kids' minds off the loss as they plan funerals for two moms and the future for these ten children. in prince george's county, darcy spencer, news4. sexuality assault, hazing and high school football. tonight, seven players have been kicked out of school after they were all charged in a hazing scandal. investigators in central new jersey say the older players forced four freshman teammates to bend over and then violated them in a sexual manner. today the principal suspended the high school students and the superintendent has cancelled the rest of the team's season. despite the fact the team is a prep power house, people in town say the games are the least of their worries. >> i mean, kids were violated and the football season is nothing compared to the pain and

hurt that they probably will have to go through for the rest of their lives. >> hundreds of people rallied tonight to show support for the victims. no coaches have been charged and it isn't clear if they even knew about the alleged hazing. new tonight, supporters of same-sex marriage have won a symbolic victory. earlier this evening, a federal judge struck down a ban on gay marriages in alaska. that's significant, because it was the first such ban in the nation that led to a lot of others. it's not clear how soon weddings can begin, but similar decisions in the past week as well as action from the supreme cours g married in 29 states and the district. well a lot of missing money. we'll tell you about the new revelations about an apartment building that could have some political implications. how would you like to be stuck in this? wait until you see how some people were not prepared for this last of winter? and getting a late start, why you could be in for a rude

we're working to find out why a man drove his car into someone's house. he smashed into a home on o-branch avenue. a man and woman were home at the time but they were in another room and are both okay. the driver was hurt in the crash. a woman in the car was not injured. new tonight a lot of money is missing from a d.c. apartment

complex and that has some implications for the mayor's race. a new audit discovered more than $100,000 is unaccounted for at low-income apartments in southeast. the d.c. government took control of the part southern complex last spring and the audit found $103,000 is either missing or it was misspent by the former nonprofit managers. "the washington post" reports the results have been turned over to federal investigators, one of park southerns former properties donated $20,000 to a campaign. a rival has called on becauser to give that money back. and there's a good chance it will come up at this week's mayoral forrum, bouser and carol schwartz will all be here wednesday afternoon it's sponsored by nbc4 and "the washington post." you can watch it live online. muhammad ali, michael j. fox, some of the famous names who

in the u.s. are demanding new action to fight the terrorist group. president obama will be at joint base andrews tuesday where he plans to coordinate a strategy with about 20 foreign defense chiefs. 48 minutes, 28 seconds, that's how long it took the fastest runner to complete today's army ten miler, 35,000 runners from all over the world entered the race and weaved their way through the streets of d.c. and arlington. it's in its 30th year but for this race organizers asked runners to run in honor of fallen service members. you thought this weekend was on the chilly side, let me tell you, it could have been a lot worse. check thout video of heavy snowfalling just outside denver. it's only october but people are already seeing several inches of snow. it shut down some of the roads and even the ones that are still open are not very easy to use right now. even for colorado, people were not prepared for this. as you can see, some people were still driving with the top down
