newest case, that worker reported a fever on tuesday, and was immediately isolated. test results came in overnight. right now they are work to go identify any contact or any potential exposures from this newest case. now, we are expecting to hear more from the hospital as far as their security procedures and what they are doing now to treat this newest patient. but, again, we now have a second health care worker who tested positive with ebola. . 5:03. a number of developments today aiming to contain cases of ebola. president obama will discuss the international response to the epidemic with his british, french, german and italian counterparts. plus, the cdc is promising special ebola response teams to any hospital in the future that gets an ebola patient. today they will address the american nurses association to go over how to better prepare front line nurses for ebola. and the texas hospital nurse who contracted ebola on u.s. soil is

reportedly in good condition this morning. and a new poll is out as well. the majority of americans say the u.s. is ready to respond to a possible outbreak here at human. that was conduct canned by nbc news and the wall street journal. 56% say the nation is prepared. 42% disagree. 20% say the u.s. is not prepared at all. the cdc knits it should have acted faster to keep workers from getting sick. they say nina pham may never had been infected if they had sent a rapid response team to dallas as soon as thomas eric duncan tested positive for ebola. they are monitoring 76 hospital workers in dallas who may have had contact witduan. i wish we had put a team like this on the ground the day the first patient was diagnosed. that might have prevented this infection. >> for the next week, the cdc is hosting webinars and phone and

those google glasses more often than they probably should have you seen the news about barbara comstock? first, the washington post reported, barbara comstock failed to report eighty-five thousand in income. now, we learn, barbara comstock pushed a client's issues in the virginia legislature and didn't disclose it. barbara comstock shepherded a trio of bills through the legislature and into law, but barbara comstock never officially disclosed that all the while she was being paid thousands of dollars. no wonder she hid it.

wothe way als dismantles someone like stuarty. is so painful. embryonic st cells have so much promise, but barbara comstock voted to ban that research funding even though conservatives like nancy reagan support it. that takes away hope for a cure -- but also, for families like ours, who just wanted a little more time. house majority pac is responsible for the content of this advertising.

15 after the hour. today is a weather alert day. give yourself extra time as you head out the door. i-66 westbound in the falls church area. the roads are a bit wet from rains overnight. storm team 4 meteorologist chuck bell will show us how much more rain we can expect and when. i'm richard jordan watching the sentencing phase in the oscar pistorius trial happening now in south africa. we're not expecting that sentence to come down today. inside we have seen cross-examination of a probation officer called by the defense. this is a paid witness for the defense. they say pistorius should do three years of house arrest because prison would not be safe

for him and would not accommodate his handicap. >> a bombshell drop in court yesterday that pistorius has been paying the family of reeva steenkamp $600 a month for a year and a half to cover their rent and other expenses. steenkamp attorneys saying that was kept confidential because pistorius wanted it to be confidential. now they say they plan on paying him back. that's the latest from the live desk. a homeless advocate plans to file a formal complaint about an encounter he had with a mo montgomery county police officer. he is the man in the baseball cap speaking to an officer in downtown silver spring friday night. during that conversation the officer right there unholsters his gun, points it to the ground, and puts it back into the holster. he said he asked the officer what was going on during the the arrest of a homeless man.

the officer asked for identification. cane said he would give him a business card, reached into his coat to get hit and that's when the officer reached for his gun. the incident is under investigation. they say the officer did not know what he was reaching for in his coat. they say the officer never pointed the gun at anyone. but officers can take action if they feel they are in danger >> we are learning an arizona first grader has died after suffering from a severe respiratory illness. so far there is no indication that student had enterovirus. health officials say there is no reason to believe any other students are at increased risk for contracting the disease. a school in new york is closed after a student came down with enterovirus. they did not have a severe strain of the virus. he is currently seeking treatment.

an outside cleaning company has been called to disinfect the school. they will use anti bacterial product to prevent the spread of the virus. this morning a former fairfax county school bus driver is accused of abusing a student with special needs. he drove students to key center school in springfield. search warrant showed an adult reported her suspicions administrators to tcth video. they found out about it through media reports. >> i'm concerned. i'm going to withhold judgment until i hear the whole stor >> miller is chard th assault and batty. he is due in court october 29th. he retired soon after the investigation began and he was put on leave. we reached out to him but have not heard back. today's rain will cause a break in the search for missing uva tudent hannah graham.

emergency management officials say there will be no search today, but it will pick up on thursday. hundreds of law enforcement officials will be out looking this weekend. jesse matthew has been charged in the case. federal prosecutors are responding to former virgini governor bob mcdonnell d wife maureen's rue f aew trial. they say it is "without merit." they were convicted of accepting $165,000 in gifts and loans from ceo jonnie williams in exchange for promoting his company. prosecutors failed to prove they performed any official 5:19. a $9 million federal grant will help people in virginia sign up for the the affordable care act. grant money will be used to hire more than 100 people to help

with enrollment, which runs from november 15th through february 15th. state officials say 300,000 people were qualified for tax credits under the affordable care act are still uninsured. today montgomery county is rolling out upgrade to its emergency warning system. anyone who wants to receive notification must reregister their existing alert montgomery county. a lot have been doing this the last month or so. it improves the speed and reliability of alerts. you can customize notifications. current account holders should get an e-mail with a link to get the upgrade. . communities in parts of georgia are busy cleaning up from tornados this morning. one ravaged more than a dozen homes. there are entire sections of twisted, torn up trees. several large limbs came crashing through as well. what was a dense forest is now mostly gone.

neighbors are against any new development in the area. maryland gubernatorial hopeful anthony brown is pulling out all the stops before election day. he will get help from president obama this weekend. he will campaign with him at henry wise high school on sunday. a kentucky senate candidate who refused to say whether she voted for the president is getting support from hillary clinton. grimes will campaign with clinton in louisville. experts thought she had a strong chance to beat mcdonnell in november. but many stopped supporting her race after she wouldn't say whether she voted for president obama. . a forum here at nbc 4.

i'm richard jordan at the live desk with breaking news. just hearing from the cdc after a second health scare worker in texas is diagnosed with ebola. the test results came in overnight. this worker worked alongside nurse nina pham who also tested positive at texas presbyterian hospital in dallas. both were taking care of thomas eric duncan, the first diagnosed case of aoe poe la in the u.s. the cdc is testing to confirm the results that came in overnight just around my night. the new case that health care worker reported a fever on tuesday and was immediately isolated. still remains in isolation ri now. the cdc says it is also sending additional teams out to dallas right now to deal with these two

they decided really it's not just on the battle field. there are religious tensions, economic and social media, twitter and other social media having a huge impact here because isis is so adept at recruiting people through social media. president obama said they will need to ramp up communication efforts to fight isis as well is. aaron? >> tracie potts on the hill. the suspected ringleader of the u.s. consulate attack in benghazi is set to be arraigned october 20th. he was indict odd several new charges yesterday, including murder. the charges carry a possible death sentence. he was brought here in june after u.s. special forces captured him.

prosecutors say he was the ringleader of the attack that killed ambassador christe else and three other americans. stkpwhro. the united nations says the world needs an ebola response plan by december 1st. the current plan won't be enough for the future crisis. the the u.n. says by december 1st at least 70% of people infected should be in treatment. this comes a day after the world health organization warned within two months west africa could face up to 10,000 new ebola cases a week. a major employer in frederick, maryland is moving jobs across the river. bethtel will move a significant number of 1,100 employees from frederick to weston, virginia. bestel will be combined with a

concerning. >> when people start shooting guns in the middle of the day in barbershops or on the street or in an apartment building or anywhere else, everybody is at risk. >> lanier said the recent crimes have been connected and one person has been taken into custody. police asking you to be on the lookout for a missing man. this is 79-year-old carl michael. he went missing from his group home on pretoria drive yesterday. he was wearing a striped green and black jacket, black pants and maybe walking with a cane. if you have information, give montgomery county police a call. a new playground opens at the largest shelter for families. this is despite calls to shut down d.c. general. a ribbon cutting is scheduled for later today. announcing $90 million plan to house hundreds of families yesterday. but officials acknowledged it will not be available this winter.
