now they are trying to contact passengers who she shared a flight with monday night. the former airlines plane in question is out of service this morning. it flew from cleveland to denver last night. it is parked inside a hangar and will have an additional cleaning. it has been decontaminated three times since monday. frontier airlines out of precaution will place the pilots and flight attendants on paid leave for 21 days. 18 nurses are on paid administrative leave as well. they will be closely monitored for 21 days. they had just attended a conference in dallas. two cleveland area schools are closed as a precaution. a school staff member was on the same plane but not the same flight as the nurse diagnosed with with ebola. they will spend the day

disinfecting both buildings just to be on the safe side. news 4's megan mcgrath live at dulles international with some other precautions. >> reporter: good morning, aaron. airport officials say on any given day, between 15 and 55 people from the three affected countries pass through dulles international airport. today the enhanced screenings are getting under way. the the video in the still pictures that you're about to see here, these were taken at jfk where screenings began last weekend. a similar situation will be going on at dulles. travelers from liberia, new guinea and sierra leone will have their temperatures taken with no touch thermometers. they will the be taken to another area on site for further evaluation and the cdc will decide whether that person is

5:14 right now. congressional leaders are getting ready to question health leaders about the efforts to control ebola in the u.s. the congress will hear from the head of cdc and head of texas health systems where thomas duncan died and two nurses are now infected. we looked at some testimony. the head of texas hospital will admit mistakes were made. tom freeden admitted the

department should have protected faster before the first nurse nina pham contracted ebola. . and he will stay at the white house to focus on the u.s. ebola response. yesterday president obama warned world leaders if ebola rages it of control in west average it will spread globally. there are fears were hospital staff could become infected and possibly pass it on to others. the texas hospital at the center of this is trying to ease those concerns. nbc's chris is live in dallas with more. chris, good morning. >> reporter: yeah, good morning, eun. we have learned texas presbyterian hospital is actually offering rooms for staff members to stay here on the hospital property. those rooms are being set aside for about 75 hospital workers who were helping take care of thomas eric duncan and now, some

of them, helping take care of nina pham, who continues to recover from ebola here in the hospital. obviously these hospital workers are at minimal risk if they are follow the proper cdc procedures. they understand family members might be nervous to have their loved ones coming from the hospital and back and forth while dealing with ebola patients. out of abundance of caution, they are offering to allow any of those 75 nurses and doctors who are dealing with ebola patients here at the hospital to stay on property if they want to do that. health officials here in texas have admitted that they expected that health workers could possibly come down with ebola. now two nurses have. they said yesterday it would not sprays them if somebody else did. some of them have been furloughed and are not working at this point. others have been want volunteer and work and help take care of nina pham you

can do that as well. so that's what some of the hospital workers are doing. now they have the option to stay here on property for the duration of the incubation period for ebola, which is 21 days after being exposed. eun? >> chris, thank you. . also today, we'll learn how the district plans to respond to the ebola case. major school districts in our area are also taking steps. fairfax county is asking students and parents about any recent travel to west africa. in prince georges county, any student with a high enough fever will be asked about travel history. the county's primary concern right now is preventing the flu. we are still waiting to hear from d.c. and montgomery county. it is important to know there have not been any suspected cases reported. go to nbcwashington.com and

search "ebola crisis". right now we are watching the sentencing phase of the oscar pistorius phase in south africa. it is not expected to come down today. possibly as soon as tomorrow. the judge will go on a three-week break after that so there is pressure to get it done. there was testimony from martins, reeva steenkamp's cousin. the cousin testifying that the death of reeva steenkamp has ruined the family. steenkamp's parents are not expected to testify during the sentencing phase. a corrections officer described conditions inside the prison, saying pistorius would likely be held in a hospital section and accommodations would be made to accommodate his handicap while in jail. when asked about a newspaper report that said gang members would take him out if in prison,

he said he was not aware of it. . it is just about 5:19. new accusations this morning against actor steven collins. the los angeles sheriff's department confirms it is investigating whether collins exposed himself to a young girl in the early 1980s. a woman reported it to the sheriff's department early this month. she said it happened in west hollywood in 1983. the 7th heaven star is accused of molesting a family acquaintance in manhattan in the 1970s. pena died at 53 years old. she starred in "lone star" and "had roles in "rush hour" and "modern family". the fbi says william bradford bishop murdered his entire family in potomac nearly

adding sidewalks across the county, including south walter reed drive. this weekend leaders will vote to apply for those function. a high school in washington state is skrcrapping a plans to use rubber turf because of safety concerns raised in an nbc news investigation. earlier this month they aired a series on-air report suggesting there could be a link between the turf and cancer after several soccer players in seattle were all diagnosed with the same type of cancer and they all played on the same type of turf. right now no study has shown a direct link between the surface and any health risk. orioles fans are singing the kansas can city blues. >> the os eliminated from the playoffs losing four straight. baltimore lost 2-1. hardy grounded out the end of the game. stephanie recallings blake will have to pay up on a wager.

he was talking about iran's nuclear party. his 757 is having some mechanical problems. we don't know exactly what happened. this is actually the fourth time this year that kerry's plane has broken down. 5:33. hundreds of virginia state workers will lose their jobs as the governor aims to close a $2 billion budget shortfall. he plans to lay off 565 employees. most of those workers are in the department of corrections leaders previously agreed to cut $45 million of higher education and $30 million given to local governments. and they plan to raise liquor prices at state-owned stores and sell a state police airplane. the law passed the d.c. council last month after a judge struck down the district's ban on carrying hand guns outside the home. today will help guide specific licensing requirements for gun
