alive. >> reaction from a woman who opened the door to help the victim. and a childhood street fight goes viral. why some adults could soon face charges. news 4 at 11:00 starts now. new at 11:00, two people shot and two children nearly caught up in the gun fire. >> police tell us more than 20 shots were fired this afternoon hitting two men and coming close to a 3 year old and a 10 month old. >> it was on fort davis street. news 4's shomari stone spoke to a mother and grandmother at the scene. >> frightening, scary. i'm going to be honest. >> reporter: ms. sharp was sitting on this couch in her living room holding her 10-month-old great grand son. she heard several shots fired in southeast d.c. >> he jumped. i jumped and i just kept him

close to me and less than a minute or so. >> reporter: police sources tell me at least 21 shots were fired on q street southeast and fort davis street about 5:30 this evening. police sources say two men pulled up to the bmw in a ford taurus. one of the victims was holding his 3-year-old son. the men and the child are going to be okay. after the shooting ms. sharp called her granddaughter and told her what happened. she drove to the crime scene. >> i want to hold my baby. >> reporter: police let her through. >> my heart is pounding because i realize something could have happened to my baby or my grandmother. >> thank you jesus i was sitting down and not standing up. >> reporter: she hopes police calm her fear and arrest the shooters. >> kids around this

neighborhood. i hope the police catch whoever it is. >> reporter: police tell us they are going to talk to both victims at the hospital and could possibly provide more information. police urge anyone with information about the shooting to give them a call. in southeast d.c. i'm shomari stone, news 4. shooting comes less than three weeks after a 9-year-old boy was shot in the head in northeast. last week we asked d.c. police chief about a rash of gun violence in the sixth district. she said many victims had been targeted. the 9 year old was caught between two men shooting at each other. he survived with critical injuries. tonight we are told autopsy results will likely come back on human remains. crews have secured the scene and are combing the area for new evidence. news 4 learned the location is a

few miles from where jesse matthew once lived with his mother. >> jesse matthew could be on his way to fairfax county. a grand jury indicted him in three charges in a 2005 rape case. news 4's darcy spencer is in fairfax where the attack happened nine years ago. >> reporter: the attack happened here in this area. the victim was walking back from a store. she was dragged into a wooded area near a maintenance shed. we spoke to the woman who helped her that night. >> i remember a knock on the door. >> reporter: diane jenkins' home is where the young rape victim ran to nine years ago. >> she had sticks and grass in her hair and scratches and she was confused. >> reporter: now there is a face to go along with the crime, jesse matthew charged in the violent attack. he is also a suspect in the disappearance of uva student

hannah graham. >> a lot of rape cases go unsolved for a long time. i am glad that they found him. >> reporter: matthew has been indicted on rape, attempted murder and abduction charges in the attack here at the oxford road town home. >> the victim is grateful to the lead detective who stayed in touch with her regularly over the course of nine years. >> reporter: the 26-year-old woman was walking home from the giant. she had bags of groceries when she was grabbed, dragged into a wooded area and assaulted. >> if you were able to talk to her again what would you say? >> i am very glad that she is alive. >> reporter: the sexual assault has been matched through dna to the 2009 murder of virginia tech student of morgan harington. matthew has not been charged in that crime. >> a monster of a guy especially if it turns out that he was involved in these other rapes and murders and it is awful.

>> reporter: the commonwealth attorney says he plans to ask a judge on thursday to bring matthew back here to face these serious felony charges. turning to our weather. a few showers out there tonight. doug is talking nor'easter in our future. >> you see the showers across our area. you see some of those around where darcy was holding that umbrella around fairfax. turning to radar you can see the showers coming through the i-95 corridor right down through the laurel area right through central portions of d.c. and fairfax county. they continue to move off. there is a few more back towards the west. take a look at the wider picture. here is our storm system here. we will see another storm system move through tomorrow. rain and wind up and down the east coast. we will talk about the effects that will play in our area coming up.

police eventually found hail dead, as well, near an elementary school this morning. investigators say he shot himself. police in maryland need help finding a man accused of using fake cash. investigators tell us that man on your screen passed off a counterfeit $100 bill at a gas station in st. mary's county. he was last seen driving a blue or black crown victoria. the smithsonian institution is trying to raise $1.5 billion. the board of regents announced a plan to increase private support for its museums. they raised $1 billion before making the campaign public. while it is mostly funded by federal taxes many exhibits and programs rely on private federal law will prohibit pot loose so private employers can fire an employee who legally uses marijuana when not at work. outrage over a plan to limit edible marijuana has stopped proposal in its tracks in colorado. state health department proposed limiting. they are concerned about children accidently eating pot brownies but marijuana industry reps say the ban won't help. colorado voters legalized marijuana in all forms back in

today in their home. he was named the new creative director for his brand just last week. he was 82 years old. tonight a suspected serial killer is behind bars in indiana. police arrested and charged 43-year-old darren van for the murder of a 19-year-old woman. investigators say he met her at a hotel after arranging a sexual encou encounter. he confessed to that murder and six others and hinted there may be more victims dating back 20 years. as reports tonight authorities couldn't keep him behind bars. >> reporter: he lived in indiana and texas and committed crimes in both states. >> i can tell you it was -- >> the 43-year-old was arrested in 2007 after he hired a suspected sex worker and brought her back to his apartment.

according to texas court records he attacked her and began to strangle her and hit her. dna connected van to the rape. he took a plea deal and was sentenced to five years in prison. >> he is a registered sex offender in the state of texas. >> reporter: in 2004 he poured gasoline on himself and police say he put her in a head lock and dragged her down an alley and he took a plea deal and served 90 days in jail, got probation and community service. when he was 22 years old he had a run in with police. court records show he was found guilty of aggravated fleeing police and served jail time. >> police released the identities of three of the other six victims today. a viral video of two young children in a brutal street fight has sparked a police investigation in delaware. the video making the rounds on

social media shows two young boys repeatedly punching each other. investigators say the boys are between 4 and 7 years old and at one point in the video you see a little girl try to break them up. in the background you can hear the adults laughing. police believe the person who recorded the video also posted it on facebook. new at 11:00 tonight pet co is asking for your help to find a stolen puppy. it happened at the adoption site on richmond highway. this is a picture coming up of that puppy. pet co says it disappeared sometime between 10:30 and 11:15. police are looking for a teenager who may have attended t.c. williams high school to ask questions about what he may have witnessed. a dog stolen in prince george's county is back home with her owner tonight. we told you about arwin. she disappeared after thieves broke into her house in green belt. a tip led the boxer's owner 40

miles away where she found arwin roaming the streets. police don't know who took the dog. get ready for travel headaches. metro says it will shut down an entire line to help control huge crowds expected for a concert. organizers say up to 800,000 people could attend the concert on the national mall, four times larger than the crowds we see on the 4th of july. metro plans to shut down blue line service for the entire day. >> what we are going to do on veterans day is replace the blue line with yellow line service. trains coming out of springfield will depart at yellow line trains and run over the bridge. >> metro says that will free up more capacity and more trains to move everybody in and out.

streets. we are reporting a temperature of 59 degrees. winds out of the south at about 8 miles per hour. here storm team 4 radar showing the light rain right down i-95. back to the west a little in the way of heavier shower activity just in the way to fredrick. you are seeing some of the rain right through jefferson county through west virginia. towards leesburg and fairfax seeing rain, bethesda, washington seeing the light rain and then around fredericksburg. look at that it is coming your way. once again the umbrellas maybe necessary. look at this area of low pressure. that will swing through and behind it we dry out quite nicely. it shows up pretty well on future weather. tomorrow 7:00 a.m. a few clouds moving through but then sunshine. i think tomorrow will be another nice day kind of like what we saw today. we see an increase in clouds late in the afternoon. look at the showers along the blue ridge. and then right around 6:00, 7:00, 8:00 i expect showers to be moving through. take the umbrella with you tomorrow. you may need it on the way home. rush hour could be a little problematic with shower activity around the beltway tomorrow night. that is not the big concern. big concern is what happens after the system moves through. it moves through overnight tomorrow night and then off the

coast and starts to strengthen. for us it is a little too far to the north and east for us to get the total effect. we are still going to get wind but we are not talking a lotf rain here. periods of rain but nothing too heavy. turning rather windy and cool. temperatures are going to be in the 50s all day on wednesday. with a 20 miles per hour wind that will be quite cool. tomorrow as i mentioned a pretty nice day. 67 degrees. sunshine early. clouds in the afternoon. high of 68. here is what happens on wednesday. high of only 58 and with 20 to 30 miles per hour winds that is a chilly day. throw in showers not the best wednesday. thursday isolated showers but a temperature around 60 degrees. thursday will be rather chilly and rather windy, too. things die down a little bit on friday but we are still talking about rather breezy conditions right through the weekend as the storm system will linger around our region.

washington redskin has begun. the third string quarterback who has been in the nfl for four years now will start against dallas unless by some miracle rg 3 is cleared to play in the game. five weeks from dislocating his ankle he may have a shot to return a week from tonight against the dallas cowboys. griffin expected to ramp up his work this week at practice while gruden has mccoy as the starter against dallas. if rg 3 does what he needs to do this week any chance he is under center monday night? >> i can't rule him out but he has a long way to go. robert has to be honest with himself and how he is feeling. he has to get out there and run it out. we have to go through the rehab process and he is going through the drills at the rate we want him to go through. we will see where he is at. >> my gut feeling tells me colt

mccoy will start on monday night. unfortunately, some bad news for brian arachpo missing the rest of the season after tearing his right muscle. he left the game and didn't return. this isn't new for the pro bowler who suffered tears in 2011 and 2012. the defense will have to move on without rack and starting cornerback deangelo hall. the wizards are almost getting ready for the regular season which starts next wednesday. tonight one of the final preseason game. the game was played in baltimore where the team used to play as the baltimore bullets before coming to d.c. and switching to the wizards. john wall getting some rest tonight. he has a little tendonitis in his left knee. he should be okay.
