morning but not this morning. we have a little bit of cloudiness around. at the bus stop this morning, temperatures are hovering in the 50s between now and 8:00. just in the low 50s with quite a bit of cloudiness and a very light wind. then students boarding the buses between 8:00 and 9:00 should be partly sunny. still rather cool with temperatures hovering around 60 by then. so a rapid warming occurring through much of the morning. the headlines after today, a warm afternoon. and then tomorrow changes move in, a rain chance and then turning cooler for wednesday. the next weather and traffic on the 1s at 5:11. chuck bell is heading off in the storm team 4by4 on the road again with a look at neighborhood highs today around the region. now we'll check those roads this morning with melissa. what is going on? on the road again, isn't that a song of some sort? >> it is. >> right now we're looking good taking a live look at the beltway and river road, no major problems heading into bethesda

or headed down to the corner area. taking a look at another camera for us this morning, the beltway at good luck road is moving along nicely. no major problem there is. and our last camera for this hit here, we're talking about the beltway at central avenue moving along. we're starting to see volume but nothing major at this point this morning. that will change as this commute changes for this morning. i'm back in ten minutes. see you at 5:11. follow us on twitter at first4traffic. thank you, melissa. new this morning, we're learning a maryland state trooper was hurt in a crash on the beltway. we just got off the phone with the state police and here's what we know so far. this happened around 2:00 a.m. south of route 50 in lanom. the trooper was involved in a car with two other vehicles. the officer and one person are recovering in the hospital. police are trying to figure exactly what caused the crash. later this morning the head of montgomery county public schools will make a big announcement. he wants to make sure your child

is in a comfortable learning environment every day. megan mcgrath is live at veal elementary school in rockville with a look at the plan to help overcrowding. megan, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, aaron. well, montgomery county schools have seen a boom in enrollment in recent years, up more than 16,000 kids since 2007 and expected to grow by another 11,000 students over the next six years. classroom trailers become all too common, a sight with much of it seen in the elementary schools. but as the kids are getting older, we are seeing the crunch in the middle and high schools as well. the school superintendent joshua starr is going to unveil a construction plan, his recommendations to alleviate the overcrowding and will ask the state for money to help fund the plan. space is very tight in four high schools, in particular. take a look, montgomery blair

high school, albert einstein high school, john f. kennedy high school, northwood high school. some of the schools have 1400 more students than capacity, and so something has to be done there. they plan to hold a meeting here later this morning to outline a plan and provide more detail on what he plans to do for the overcrowding situation that we're seeing here. reporting live in rockville, news4. the scene on chillum road was just cleared this morning as the man was shot multiple times at the fairmont complex. the man died at the hospital and we are on the phone with police to bring you the latest on air and on nbcwashington.com. five after the hour, now to a developing story. one person in maryland is in isolation after showing symptoms similar to ebola. that patient now being treated

at the university of maryland in baltimorement doctors are waiting for the results and initial reactions show it is not ebola. we now know how airports in virginia and maryland plan to handle those returning from west africa. they will be asked to take their temperature twice a day and be put in quarantine. some passengers that are high risk will be required to stay home and check their temperature four times. if you have the ebola questions, we have them for you. we are updating our what to know article on nbcwashington.com. this morning an apartment complex in prince george's county will be staying to work

on the glenn art apartments. the complex sits on 27 acres and includes 49 buildings with 578 apartment units. take a look at this video from d.c. police calling the people running across the street persons of interest. they want to talk to them in connection with a carjacking that happened on 18th street northeast in rhode island. if you think you recognize the people on your screen, call police. >> caller: well, they can see it in the whites of your eyes. how babies recognize fear before they say anything about it. and a body found in rural prince george's county. why the location may be the first thing to solve the crime. and things will heat up today. we'll check in with chuck bell and he'll tell you how warm it gets when "news4 today" gets when "news4 today" continues.

terms of layering out this morning. beautiful college park, prince george's county, we have more in the storm team 4x4. otherwise temperatures around the area are mostly in the mid to upper 50s. so a mild start as you go on through the forecasted highs later today. it's going to be mild, everybody. a lot of neighborhoods will be able to touch 80 degrees or get within a whisper of it. 59 downtown. 48 in gaithersburg. those are current readings but highs today are near 75 in frederick, maryland. 81 in fredericksburg. right near 80 degrees in and around much of the metro area. a decent amount of sunshine but it will be filtered out through an increasingly thick cloud deck during the course of the afternoon. clouds and rain drops, no, we don't need to worry about that. tom is back in ten minutes with a check on rain chances coming up tomorrow. we'll worry about that tomorrow. that will be aaron's favorite

the time now is 5:17. a developing story for prince george's county police investigating a murder in brandywine. at 6:40 last night a 911 tip led police to brandywipe where a map's body was found near a car. the land belongs to aggregate industries which uses the land as a sand and gravel pit. there are not many homes in the area. so police believe because the location is remote, whoever called 911 may have something to do with the investigation. and the live desk where the fatal shooting in seattle that left a mom and her teenager daughter dead. a 10-year-old managed to escaped not telling police pointed out that his brother and venice before shooting them. the boy says he then shot himself and all three were dead when police arrived on the

scene. this morning one of the victims recovering from the deadly shooting in washington state says he forgives the shooter. the victim the shooter jaylen freiberg's cousin saying, quote, i love you and forgive you. peace. the lava is creeping toward people in hawaii only 70 yards away from their hopes. take a look at the state's eastern coast and the la virginia is expected to reach their homes. they can watch their places burn if they want to. toronto's former mayor rob ford's term is up but he's not leaving city council. toronto voters elected him back to his old city council seat there. ford announced last month he would not be reopen elected as

he undergoes form of treatment. and a mass shooting at a colorado theater has the suspect with another trial. the 26-year-old former graduate student is accused of killing 12 people and hurting dozens more in 2012. homes pled not guilty by reason of insanity, his trial has been postponed five times. and the white houseman has been deemed not competent to stand trial. this is domenick asanya punching a dog before undergoing psychiatric treatment. he skreemd he was a victim of a

trap and a scheme. he's from maryland and has been arrested a few times since july. loves ones are preparing to honor the life of a man killed in fret rick, frederick. the man was killed last week when he crashed. his wife spoke to news4. and now a nanny is going to prison. the woman was sentenced to three years in prison yesterday with the maximum sentence being 20 years. prosecutors say she forged her employer signature on more than 100 checks between 2011 and 2013. she used the $430,000 to gamble in west virginia and buy a house in africa. she's expected to pay all the money back. today all of the current and

short sleeves. it is going to be very mild for late october. by late this afternoon, for the commute this morning, we'll be in the 50s with sunshine coming and going. then through the afternoon, turn on the air-conditioning as you drive along. it will be near 80 degrees with high clouds passing over the area near 65 on thursday. but not warming much with the cold front coming through late in the day. otherwise partly sunny to mostly cloudy with highs in the upper 60s. then a lot cooler on thursday morning. thursday the highs are in the low 60s with lots of sunshine. then on friday, for the final day of our october, we'll have

5:34. this morning there's going to be a lot of traffic near freedom plaza as taxi drivers plan a protest there. oh, those honking horns is video from a protest earlier this month that completely tied up traffic. they are protesting services like uber and lift before the d.c. council takes a vote on the services today. that's according to "the washington post." we also report that the protests will begin at 10:30. today fairfax county reveals a massive plan to make the county bicycle friendly. the board will hear the proposed plan during a hearing today. supporter says the current bike paths are in poor condition and some trails have limited use. the plan will look at bicycle infrastructure and re-drawing routes. this morning investigators are looking into what caused a car to crash into a hallmark story in fairfax county. this is chopper 4 video at the

scene yesterday. you can see the car backing out of the store. the crash caused major damage to the store. no one was hurt. paramedics did take an elderly couple inside the car to get checked out at the hospital. 5:35 now. and detectives are building a homicide case against the mother of two toddlers missing in montgomery county. the 2-year-old jacob and 3-year-old sarah hugge lerl hav been missing for two months. we talked to him not long after talking to his wife. >> when i asked her about jacob and sarah, she said, they are fine. she said, there's no reason for you to look for them, they are okay. >> troy turner has spent every weekend passing out flyers to raise awareness about his children's disappearance. and maryland's gubernatorial

your time now is 5:48. a northwest washington woman is telling news4 about a frightening ride she took with a taxi driver. she waved a cab on a friday night last month and says the cab driver told her his meter was broken, overcharged her and locked the doors when she refused to pay. >> totally intensely looked me in the eyes and said, i'm not letting you out until you pay me what i want. i'm sure it happens a lot and goes unreported for a variety of reasons. >> she eventually paid for her fare out of fear and filed a

police report. she said the driver was in a car with maryland plates. and if that's the case, it would have been illegal in the first place to pick up a customer in d.c. with maryland tags. d.c. police are looking for two people in connection to a carjacking. you can see them running across the screen in this video. police say they are not suspects but they are persons of interest instead. the carjacking happened on rhode island avenue in northeast earlier this month. there is a $10,000 reward if you help police solve the case. for the first time since hannah graham's body was found, the man charged in her abduction will be back in court. jesse matthew will appear in front of a judge on friday through a video link in the county where he's being held. matthew will be charged in the fairfax rape case of 2005. we're waiting to hear if he'll face murder charges in the graham case. this morning an apartment complex will be torn down to make room for a senior living

housing project starting at 10:00 along hamlin street. the complex sits on 27 acres and includes 49 buildings with 578 apartment units. d.c. police chief kathy linear is asking for changes in the law to reduce pension between citizens and police officers. linear testified before a d.c. council committee yesterday to talk about a d.c. law that requires police officers to write $530 worth of tickets to anyone who is driving without and insurance card. she says some violators feel like this is an abuse of police authority. >> the council has inadvertently established a system where officers who are following the law are seen harassing the community. we need to change that perception. >> linear says if you feel one of her officers steps out of line, you can call 911 and the city will send a supervisor regardless of the circumstances. today high-level government security officials will discuss how to protect you from cyber

crime. serious threats to the safety and security of your credit card and personal information are in the news a lot lately. today the u.s. chamber of commerce the hold its third annual cyber security summit. the meeting is aimed to explore the latest threat as well as the newest solutions from government and businesses as well. and just in time for halloween, bid on the abandoned village today. the people say there may be, quote, a restless spirit or two. the town is called johnsonville, connecticut. no one has lived there for decades but it looks pretty creepy. the starting bid is $800,000. that's a lot of land and property for $800,000. but the reckless spirit, i don't know if it's worth it. how pretty is that, though? >> it's great until the cold chill comes upon them. >> i'm going to say no thank you to that. >> a beautiful drive through. keep it moving. 5:51 is the time with tom here with us. people are going to be excited
