wallops island, virginia. crews will be out trying to get a closer look at the debris field. it could wash up on area beaches over the coming days, even weeks. it was operated by orbital sciences. nasa says an anomaly happens seconds after the launch. he said he believes the the command staff sent a self-instruct command to destroy the rocket before it hit the ground. a witness described just how powerful the blast was from six miles away. >> you can actually hear the sound wave come after the initial crash of it. everybody is in shock and awe. the sound wave comes across and

hits us. >> people felt shaking up in maryland 45 miles away. >> it is important to mention that no one was injured in this explosion. it was carrying 5,000 pounds of supplies and equipment. everything on board can be replaced. there are several other resupply missions coming up including one by spacex in december. a cargo ship is on its way to the international space station from kazakhstan. the rocket is carrying 5,000 pounds of supplies and lab equipment. the rocket should reach the iss later this morning. wallops island is near chincoteague. it is the only launch range and employs 1,000 nasa and contract

employees. thousands have been launched at wallops since 1945. it is the only one that can handle the antares rocket that exploded last night >> ala va flows continues advancing on the big island. it started flowing when mt. kilauea erupted in june. it is moving 15 miles per hour and is yards away from homes. some 50 homes could be affected. >> you can allow these folks to watch their home burn. >> >> yes. . an opportunity for them to go through a grieving process for what could be in some cases generations. >> evacuations have not been ordered. emergency shelters are open as a precaution. there are problems with voting machines in maryland right now. they are switching their votes from one candidate to another.

this morning a d.c. woman said police are looking into whether she is another victim secretly recorded by her former rabbi. she fears he recorded her during a ritual bath at kesher israel in georgetown. she left the synagogue when the rabbi's behavior changed. >> over time he would make comments about that i was an a attractive young female when i was having some of the males make sexually inappropriate comments to me. >> he is accused of recording at least six women. he pled not guilty to voyeurism. he is expected in court next month. the man who investigated the

secret service prostitution scandal is facing accusations that he slept with a prostitute. according to the "new york times", the woman in florida claims he paid her for sex. he resigned when they tkpapb to ask about that incident. he denies the allegations. two young maryland children are safe following an amber alert. police found them in delaware. their mother tia marie valenzuela called them last night. their father told them their mother threatened to drive off a bridge with them in the car. anne arundel and newcastle police in delaware are looking into this case. no charges are pending right now >> police are knocking on doors hoping to find answers to a murder mystery in prince gorgeous county. they found 39-year-old hollis johnson shot outside his home monday night. detectives handed out flyers to neighbors monday night. there is a $25,000 rewar for

vdot will explain plans to reconstruct 66 and route 15 interchange in hay market. they are hosting a community information meeting at battlefield high school in hay market. the goal of this project is to improve the safety of the intersection and to accommodate increased traffic in that area. now, later this morning transportation leaders from our area will talk about how to improve your commute. the meeting in virginia, head of metro and representatives from the airport and the commonwealth will all be there. they try to talk about the second phase of the silver line along with future plans. auto nation, four in your area, stopped selling collars equipped with the air bags in the recall. it could send shrapnel flying. so far four people have died. if you would like to check if your car is involved, we have a list on the makes and models on
